a Real-Life Gauss Rifle - thought you guys might enjoy

Some years, depending on my Engineering Tech student group and how motivated they are, we build a project that's relevant to the classwork. I built a potato gun the year before last, for example, to study gas expansion, projectile motion, and so on (it has to be classroom relevant, as I said). 

Anyhow, this year the students approached me right away with this:

Ferret: that is uber cool!!!

 

Now imagine each projectile weighing 220 lbs and being accelerated to the melting point.... Arooogah :)
