Retro Type help?

So I have a simulator that has 500 NES games my problem is I can't seem to get it running. Now this on CD that someone gave me and it use to work  but I don't talk with this person anymore . Does anyone have experience in this area?

Is it an emulator on the CD that runs the games as ROMs? There are many different emulators for most of the old consoles that you can download free and legally from the net. The illegal part is owning the ROMs and using them.

I don't know if this helps you probably knew this already.

Are the emulator and the roms combined in one file or are they all separtate files?

I've used Daemon tools in the past to run emulators/roms in they are compressed in one file.

I've always used the free version of the program.
