Need suggestions for a tablet
I'm looking to pick up a tablet because I need something portable, but I was hoping I'd still be able to run bittorrent and watch tv shows on it. I really don't want a laptop because I need somethin I can carry around easily. So I'm hoping someone here knows a decent tablet for maybe 3-400 I could use to torrent with.
uTorrent has an Android version in the Google Play store

Your biggest issue using a tablet though is what codecs/containers the tablet supports vs what they used when making the video you're downloading. That's always the challenge, but VLC player seems to have a lot of capabilitiy.
As for what tablet, I'd go android based and give the Nexus 7 two thumbs up. But for the money you're looking at, you probably want a 10 incher and I hav eno opinions in that size range.
If you want a tablet that's an actual computer running full windows 8.1 with a i5 processor that you can do anything you can do with alaptop on, look at the Surface Pro 2. But you're going to drop 1 grand or more on that, but it is essentially a laptop in a 10" tablet form factor.
I was thinking about the Nexus 7. For the price range it's probably the best I can find. I'd like one bigger, but I really don't wanna spend 500+ on it. Do you know if it's got a keyboard like the Suface does? And can VLC run on it? Most of the files I get are avi and mvk which I can't get anything else but VLC to run.
FYI, I own a SURFACE RT. It does not run programs like bittorrent. Only Apps from the Window Store can be installed. It's the cheapest SURFACE and can do most most video playback types. I can also attest to it's durability with 1 year of continuous service.
The NExus has bluetooth built in so you can pick up a basic bluetooth keyboard from amazon or something. I'm not sure if they have any cases with integrated bluetooth keyboards or not. I imagine there are, just have never looked for one. I have the first gen nexus 7 and like it a lot, the 2nd gen one brings more features and more performance for the same money so it's still one of the best values as far as tablets go.
And yes, VLC Direct Pro is available for it, free of charge via the marketplace.
edit : ya there are lots of options for cases with built in keyboards

I echo Tank's recommendation of a Nexus 7. I also have the first-gen Nexus 7 and I really enjoy it for my basic tablet needs and you can't beat the price.
Nexus 7 FTW
