What's in store for the future?
I've been throwing around a lot of thoughts lately and they end up here.
My 360 seems like it's just about to kick the can. It's gotten to the point where I can RARELY get a disc to read and play. So that means no Forza and this isn't a good thing for me...
My initial plan was to grab a preowned 360 as a replacement for my Forza 4 addiction. I can't swing enough for the new system until tax return season most likely. Now with recent news on Forza 5, I am terribly turned off to the whole title like many of you. Also, everyone is talking GT6 now and that's got me wondering. I am a huge fan of early Gran Turismos, it's what I learned on. Since I can really only afford to get one replacement system, should I get another 360 or get a PS3 solely for GT6?
Eventually I am going to get the new Xbox, I'm hoping they get their act together by Forza 6...
What am I going to do?
Right now I'm leaning more to getting another 360, but I'd hate to miss out on hanging out and racing if everyone move to GT6. Please tell me that you guys are going to dabble back in Forza 4... Or, just tell me to buy a used PS3... Whatever... Here's a video...
I will be Hosting Events and playing Forza 4 For a long while yet.
The PlayStation and GT6 will be there for something fresh.
So yeah I will be flipping between each console every other night etc.
I think you might see 2nd hand prices properly plummet in a couple of months. Folks will be offloading.
Buy the ps3 and replace the 360
for half the price of a xbone. I'm cruising eBay for a ps3 bargain daily.
Good luck
If its an option give it a couple months the picture willl become much clearer.
But if Parcells was to put money on it I'd have to guess FM4 will remain the most active for no other reason beyond we all have it right now.
Lots of FM4 racing around here I do believe. But I also believe that with the track lineup alone alot of people will be willing to get and play GT6. Get both systems bud, you will want to run both games. Try finding a used ps3 for a good deal. Cheaper than xbone.
My local credit union has a local swap sheet and see used systems for sale quite often. Most ps3's I see on there are for 200 bucks but I bet you could get for 175 or so. https://www.veridiancu.org/swap_sheet/for_sale/general.aspx?mcid=13&scid... Check page 2. for xbox's and ps3.
Since I prefer organized events over the random lobbies for the most part, I'll run in the FM4 schedueld events as much as I can. I'll run the GT6 on the side when nothing else is going on as a diversion. I agree though, get both if you can
What xbox are you using? Original White? Elite? Slim? I can probably help you replace your disc drive for about $30 or less. You'd have to do a little labor in diassembling your xbox and using a soldering iron but it can be done within probably an hour or 2. I did it twice on my old xbox and once on my wife's. Let me know and I'll help you.
Not getting any next-gen system for a while. Will still be playing FM4 and GT6. I have GT5 but when given the choice between it and Forza, Forza would win out almost every time.
Side question. How difficult is it to get the Fanatec Wheel working on PS3. I have the instructions and USB cable somewhere and to the best of my knowledge it's not too difficult to do. Are there any setting adjustments I need to do on the wheel to get the most out of GT?
If you have the usb cable your pretty much set. Just go thru the initializing steps to connect the wheel to the ps3. Then you can customize your settings from there and you can customize your wheel settings too.
I had my xbox give me problems reading discs. I put mine on end to get it working so far so good. I will be staying with F4 for a long while. probably look into a ps3 and gt 5 too.
I'm sticking with F4.
I had GT5 and a PS3 but traded them in not long ago. I think I'm going to pick some used copies up and give it another go.
3-4 wires to replace key that has your dvd drive "married" to your xbox. If I can find my old pics of the disassembly, I'll send them your way. You also need to know the make and model of your DVD drive for your xbox to get an exact match on ebay. Should be a yellow sticker on your drive. I think.
I'm sorry, it's a total of 9 wires. Easy enough. These are pictures showing step by step the replacement of the "key" after xbox is taken apart. The pics arent the best quality but it's because my old phone had a shitty camera but you'll get the point. If someone thinks I should have made a new thread to do disassembly feel free to tell me and I'll delete the post and recreate.
This video will show you how to disassemble and reassemble your xbox down to the drive pretty much.

Once you get the xbox apart it should look like this:

On your old DVD drive:

There will be a total of 3-4 ribbons (I think) on your DVD drive. Be careful not to rip or be too rough with them, they provide the communication needed to read a disc and blah blah blah. Just be careful.

Just go in reverse order to put back together. Drivebye you probably are almost ready to take your drive out to start anyways. You got my cell number if you need me to help guide you. Also text or message me your CD Make, Model, SW, and FW numbers. They have to match new drive otherwise it won’t work. Good luck!
DRC, imjimeez44 has a post of an adapter that allows you to use a xbox360 controller on a PS3.
I'll be on Fm4 until I get a XBone, will have Fm5 here on the desk looking at me, telling me to hurry it up, soooo.....
I am going to stick with fm4 and try to get some solid seat time with gt5 and 6 and fm5 before making my own purchase decision.
I was in 2 minds after seeing so many saying they were going over to GT6 but i am going to stick with the Xbox One and Forza 5. I will still play Forza 4 as so many will be still playing it
Well Cooter those photos kind of suck ass. I'm willing to try to save my 360 for the sake of getting GT6... I'll hit you up soon for more details so I don't screw this up.
Thank you all for the insights
It's helped with my decisions. Looking forward to getting back out on the track sometime.
Thats fine. I'll talk you through it if you want. Do you feel you can do it? I mean, what do you have to lose really? It already doesn't read discs barely right? Haha!
I can do it, with a little help from my friends.
Ya you can. Now make sure the xbox if fixed or I'll drive over and rack you in the nuts
