I appreciate what he's trying to do, but I don't have much faith it's going to happen - especially with the 32 team minimum. I would love to be wrong and see a huge response, but I don't think the interest is there for a Halo tournament.
Yeah, probably not going to happen. Cool if it did.
People forget the older titles were not played by gamers new to REACH or Halo 4. That's a whole separate player percentage that does not have any of those nostalgic feelings about prior titles. It's got to be difficult to draw them to something they're not familiar with.

It depends. Is it fueled by nostalgia? Then you're right. Is it fueled by a better game? Then you're wrong.
You'd have to play the "better" game and understand it is the "better" game to be drawn to an event featuring that "better" game. I believe a lot of active Halo players are too new and lacking in Halo 3 experience to be drawn to the event. Is it enough to make a difference? I don't know.

A better game is a better game. Newer people can try it out (for free, mind you) and see if its for them.

There is the subjective side of better. Probably the most significant element in the discussion. Also, being free does not automatically equate to easily available. I.E. Many 360 are still using 20Gb HD and with Halo 4 using most of it up, some people may pass on the whole delete, install, delete and reinstall. In fact, I know this to be true for some people on my FL.

Halo 3 is SOOOOO much better on LAN. You also don't have to worry about if the gametype is setup for a 4 shot or 5 shot BR ;)
I truly hope 343i doesn't commit this TU sin again. Just make a damn game and stick with the vision till the bitter or sweet end. Having to mange TU gametypes is a big pain in the ass. I know it's important to some people that a weapon does what it is expected of it even in our customs.
So you're against updating a game to make it better?
Not really, but it may seem so. I would have preferred 343i take their sandbox changes to the next title, thus reducing confusion.
Look, we don't agree on much but we probably do on consistency within the product. If the Halo 4 sandbox had been left alone and only fixes applied to faults and unplanned consequences then it would have maintained consistent gameplay throughout its life cycle. As it is now, MM is a mix of Title Update (TU) Weapon tuned (WT)/non TU WT gametypes but the majority are TU WT.
Customs are a big part of a Halo title and I know that some player types want what they get in MM. I try to give them the relevant gametypes but it's a mess. 343i supposedly hosted the TU WT gametypes in the HALOWAYPOINT GT but I have downloaded non TU WT recently. Basically I have to go into MM and roll the dice sometimes to get what I want. I.E. Neutral Flag. I don't really have, or even want to have, the time to spend doing that.
Same goes for the jezzly map variants. They have different maps for each gametype and now there are a lot of them. It's a royal pain in the ass trying to serve up an expected experience. I'm sure some people get frustrated when their BR doesn't 4 shot kill or the zoomed Light Rifle's firing rate is different on a map where there are exploits or Scorpions exist when they shouldn't. I had a Longbow variant from MM and it had a respawn point inside one of the closed Warthog bases. It took awhile before we knew about it and then I had to remember to fix it. 343i needs to find a way to seamlessly push these maps out so we have the relevant copies.
I just like tournaments, I'd prefer the team model. I'd undoubtedly be outclassed by other gamers there, I just wish the tournament was closer to me. I don't think I'd actually make it to St. Louis, but I would like to if it were possible.
i'll still hold true to saying REACH was the beta for Destiny, not H4.
Should I cancel my pre-order?
I would say no. You are going to get Bungie's dedication and expertise shine through. They were beta testing "Armor abilities" in leue of "powers/spells" and I think the gameplay shows that they are above and beyond mediocrity. They tested space vehicle "battles" and that was one of the more "fun" parts of the Reach campaign. I think we will see more of that in Destiny.
I believe they said that some of what was seen in reach was flexing their creative muscles for their next project. I'm really hoping that this is what they were talking about :)

I dunno. I haven't seen a damned thing about PvP multiplayer in Destiny, outside two ancillary mentions. I'm sure they're going to bring this up, but that knowledge is a massive selling point for me.

Flash bang glowy balls seem a little odd for people used to Halo style FPS. It's more science fantasy and life science fiction too.

If Halo isn't science fantasy or life science fiction, I don't know what is.
The "life" was some kind of typo. No way is Halo generally considered science fantasy. Science fiction at it's heart with some fantastical stuff. I should bring this up on HBO.
Anyway, that wasn't my point. Do you prefer a gun only game or one with glowy magical energy balls being thrown around?

Don't cancel, you should wait for the BETA to really decide. Did you get your beta access code with your preorder?
I think WAM might be somewhat correct. I think that we can expect to see our customized character included in cutscenes and transition cinematics, which was one cool part of the REACH campaign.
Gandhi could host a Hookers-Wrapped-in-Bacon convention and I'd still prefer to have my testicles hammered flat with a wooden mallet rather than attend.

I'd use a fake wooden hammer made out of marshmallows that was slightly warmed and swung very slowly.
I'm not seriously interested in the magical glowy ball stuff I've seen of Destiny but I will be getting it and giving it a very good try. A lot my longevity with it will depend on how many friends do the same.

Updated Halo 4 is the beta test for Halo 5.
The same way that Halo: Reach was the beta for Halo 4?
Neither is the final product.
i'll still hold true to saying REACH was the beta for Destiny, not H4.
i should put that in my sig.
i guess that means i shuold get a sig first...
