The XboxOne happy, excited, super launch thread
I thought we should start a new happy xboxone thread now it's launched. Can moans, groans and trolling please stay on the general fuckery thread please?
So I got mine from Gamestop this morning. Now it sits in my car until I leave work in 8 hours :( Here are some early thoughts.
Box looks nice 9/10
Gamestop bag only paper and will tear easily 4/10
Got bearded small guy in gamestop instead of friendly blonde girl 3/10
Bearded small guy told me about update and advised me to use cable as a break in wifi will reset download. Semi useful info 8/10
WTF, released 8 ghours ago and no one picked theirs up, hooked it up, and left comments yet? Slackers LOL Hope your new box's are trouble free.
Sorry I was too busy playing
I am lovin it right now. Got home and got everything hooked up. I think it looks better in my entertainment center than my 360 did. SMEXY!!!!!
Did the update while I put all my pre-order reward card numbers in on the computer. The home screen is different but familiar and easy to navigate.
Put Forza in and it had a 6gb update and install. I thought that meant goodnight go to bed and come back in the morning. Nope, about two minutes later it said your game is ready to play, while it finished installing in the background.
I had the kinnect for the 360 and I have a large living room and sometimes felt like it wasn't big enough (place joke here). The new kinnect though is freaking sweet, huge difference what it captures. Skyped with my oldest son last night and it worked great. So can't wait to see what developers come up with for that.
This was my first launch event and it has gone very smoothly. I pre-ordered through Best Buy. Got there last night they processed my order at around 10:30. At midnight they called people in the order they showed up and by 12:30 I was back at the house.
No one took the day off? Maybe we are too old...
I know you want this thread to remain positive but that tear easy game stop paper only bag has Parcells in an uproar. I suppose they think you're just supposed to accept this?
I could probably have preordered a plastic one for a charge.
Sigh, the longest day at work ever.
Been reading a few comments about cross-game chat not being available. Totally worthless feature for me but today's youth seem to use it a lot on the 360.
No party chat?
I thought you were only unable to party chat between the 360 and the One.
Me too, or as well, or also...(don't know who's watching).
Party chat amongst different lobbies/even games is central to the Forza group, or at least it was?
my wife is home waiting on my delivery, and then she's taking off for the burbs for our baby shower tomorrow. I have to sit here at work all day, but then I get to go home and have an entire night to myself messing w/the X1 :)
WTF ! None of this was mentioned in the run up to release. It's a game changer. Glad I cancelled my pre-order.
from TA: "Just thought I would throw it out there. That Day One Achievement code everyone got for their preorder is currently selling on ebay for $30-$50. You could sell it and almost buy a brand new game!"
LOL
I wonder if you can redeem the day one achievement on a 360
I wouldn't be surprised if it's Kinect QR code only.
I picked up mine last night. Had planned on showing up at 9:30 for the 10:30 opening because this is a small town. Unfortuniatly when i drove by at 4:30 there was already a damn line. SO i went home, put on layers, grabbed my chair and grabbed spot #4 at about 5pm. It was 19 degrees out last night, thawed out by sitting in the car for a bit, walking over to McDs for some dinner and shooting the shit with people in line.
At 1030 they opened up and said they had 6 extra (non day-one) edition consoles for walk-ins and I was #4. They also gave out ONE T-Shirts and ONE controller keychains, kinda cool, both free. So i bought my stuff then headed over to walkmart to kill the next 90 minutes. They got 7 consoles over there and 12 people in line for them.
Midnight rolls around, I head home with ONE. Hook it up, i'm half asleep at this point and plug the HDMI cable into the OUT and not the IN so i'm like WTF ?! WHy isn't this working... recable, try again, nope, grrrrr. Plug in Kinect because i remember kinect used to have to be plugged in... nope. About to flip my shit when I pull out the book and the wiring diagram and it refreshes my memory that there's an hdmi out and an IN and sure enough that's the problem.
ONE doesn't do anything until you download the update. It literally asks you to connect to a network and then downloads the update. 500+ megs, it wasn't a screaming fast download but it finished in reasonable amount of time. Went in and adjuted privacy settings, fiddled with the other settings, profile window, downloaded the same apps i had installed on 360 then went to bed.
Tonight i'll actually fire up some games. Hopefuly I didn't get one of the ones with a bad BluRay drive. I"ve started hearing people say they got defective drives and there's a bunch of videos popping up on youtube. I didn't test my drive.
And just an FYI, if you got a black blox ONE, it's a 'day one' edition, if you got a green box ONE, it's not a day-one edition. Not that there's really any significant difference, just say'in.
edit: wait, TANK got one? I thought you went all PC master race on us?

I was a PC gamer until xbox came out, been xbox since but the past year and ahalf i've played way more PC games than 360 so ya I'm in that middle ground right now. Going forward i'll play both. I WAS going to get PS4 and not ONE though but because Gamestop sold my pre-ordered PS4 on me, i wasn't going to wait fo rthem to get new stock. I am looking forward to seeing how plugging my gaming PC into the ONE HDMI IN port is going to work out, could be interesting.
I've read in a few reviews that there is a slight lag when using the hdmi in port on the xbox one. It is fine for watching tv but gaming is problematic. It is possible however that this issue has been fixed from the when the reviewers played the system.
I am considering on getting an One in the spring. There just isn't an exclusive that interests me at the moment.
I would suggest not plugging in anything you want to game with. However if it's for media, that is perfect.
So far so good, it's quiet, thank goodness. Setup and install and update +3 games (KI, COD, BF4) probably around an hour. The headset is shit, I mean shittier than the 360 version. The only place I have experienced more crackling is a crack house. I tried this morning to get into a party with a couple of friends and the shit wasnt happening until he got into my game. Which...probably means we were in game chat and not a private party chat. Now that I think of it, other people could hear us, so no go on party chat atm. Kinect voice commands work pretty good, especially in BF4 when I can call for ammo and a medic. I haven't tried the head look or peek ability, because honestly...its the controller atm. It's an entirely new controller and you will have to adjust to it. I can't pull my triggers and rapid fire like I used to, and the sensitivity is way off the charts. This may be good for some, but I usually play at insanely high sensitivty, and when recoil starts popping in the game, and the triggers start vibrating, it can get frustrating. Give me a day or two to adapt, but damn is it a learning curve for me. If you're used to playing on 1 or 10% it will probably be no different. Or if you are used to using the thumb add ons you will probably be happy with the new controller.
Both games seem to be functioning okay. 64 players on BF4 was fine, no lock ups yet, everything transferred fine, except campaign progress and class setups. I would sugget going to the test range, fix your classes, and get used to it before popping in, and shoot some barrels in the air for a bit. Lots of noobs now in BF4 btw...
Rau do you normally play with vibrate on? I've had mine off since the Halo 3 days. I like the rumble triggers but I still may not use rumble.
I love how easy the setup was. Now, if only I can figure out this account thing where you can add family members.....
I am going to try out BF4 in a bit. Just have to wait for it to update and install.
I like that the controller takes AA's. I had been left with the impression that the battery pack was manditory so i'm glad that's not the case. I can stick my hybrid rechargables in there just ike the 360 controller days.
ON the PC side, i play ARPGs , RTS, MMO and SimCIty. I don't think any of those will suffer too much for a bit of lag if there is any running through ONE. So i'lll give it a shot, if it sucks i won't do it i'll just jack into the TV direct like i do now.
yeah I like AA's a lot. Fast swap, and Eneloops last forever. My ONLY gripe is there is no cartridge to put them in. That always saved time for me.
Been having fun with mine. Easy to set up. @Shadow, believe it or not...they didn't even give you a qr code for the day one code...which I thought was BS. I've really had no issues and the kinect has worked near perfect for what I've used it for on voice commands.
As for the bag, I went to an actual microsoft store and the bag was a nice heavy duty bag. I also managed to get xbox one backback and was just a few digits off from winning a surface in a raffle.
Wating on big brown truck,wating,wating,wating....
