...and probably be ostracized, but I think the Jaguar E-Type is ugly. Am I the only one? It looks like a shoe!
Will not speak for you Nightfall...But back in the day when it was first made the vehicle was the best thing since slice bread. Looked and Sounded Fantastic. Most of them I remember were the British Racing Green Varieties. Most Americans always had a fondness of those Brit Cars and Bikes....Me Included...Owned my share of Triumph's..MG's...Austin Healys Cars and Bikes. Venturing to say you are a lot younger than I am....Maybe 50 Years from now individuals will look upon current day styles with disdain.
It's not the era, it's just this particular car for whatever reason. An old friend of mine had a Triumph Spitfire, good looking little car. Of course it didn't run more often than it ran, but looks wise I had no qualms. The old Mercedes 300SL, although German and not British, of the same era blows the E-Type away in the looks department in my opinion. Maybe it's because the E-Type's roof slopes down toward the back of the car evenly whereas the 300 has a trunk (or boot as it were)? I'm not sure, they're about the same shape, same long and low front end, the trunk is the only major difference. I'm probably one of the youngest of the bunch here at soon to be 30 next month.
I think the hard top and even the fastback aspect of the hard top kinda fights the design flow to me. It looks better as a convertible as it remains low and sleek.
Hey Nightfall,
I'd go as far as to say both beautiful an ugly at the same time. As wheels points out, it should only ever exist in British Racing green, with a cedar trimmed interior.
For the bold and flashy sort, a thick white (or off-white) racing stripe down the bonnet. And as Oldschool points out, the convertible E type is simply an icon.
I would say it's ugly on the road in traffic on the way to the store. But in the British countryside in the spring on a dual carriageway (it think it's what they are called, the country roads that used to literally be for farmers carriages), I can think of nothing more beautiful to be behind the wheel of…….
Except of course an Aston Martin DB4
I like 'em in British Racing green and a simple silver.
Saw one down in Palm Beach a year ago, in January, convertible, and I do have to say it seemed a bit out of place, but I was happy to see one on the road.

The E type was at it's best as a convertible with the top down. See if you can find an image of one. Or maybe I can.
That looks much better, Oldschool.
ugly seems perhaps a bit harsh, Parcells would go with "not pretty".
I wouldn't worry about it nightfall very few of us know the meaning of the word ostracized. :)

just ban the lot of them.gif)
Shush all of you - the car styling gods are listening.

Dat Ass...
Is that sweet or what?
I think it's ugly too, and I've driven a few standard ones in the past and they're nothing special to drive either!
Of course, this is my opinion and as of anything where design or looks is involved, it's personal!!

I really like the E-type....
In fact my top 5 list of non US classics has the E-type in it.
240Z
Triumph TR-6
Mazda RX-3
Jag E-type
many others depending on mood.
Nissan GTR prebuilt?
It's not bad....
I should have thrown a 2002 or CSL 3.0 on that list too
I'd toss a Sunbeam Tiger on that list.
