Are you being sarcastic, Yoda? ;) I already knew not to get my hopes up, and figured one of the reasons they might not showcase our trailer is because it haz way radder maps, lol.
It sure would be nice to be able to comprehend why they can't just use the same gametype mods that WORK and are AWESOME that already exist, not to mention some of the great community-made maps that are out there. It's hard to have respect for an entity when the decisions that come forth from that entity appear to make so little sense...
I've already voiced my concern over whether or not the upcoming War Games version of Rocket Race will put you back on your mongoose. If not (and I'm betting not tho hoping so) that would be unfortunate and make for some pretty poor gameplay.
Edit: Kenjamin, if you get killed, do you at least spawn by your last "checkpoint"? Or just randomly somewhere on the map?

I hoped 343i's version of Race would mirror the mod. I'm sure it would have if not for some other influences. What they are I can only guess at. It's so easy for us to say the community has the answers in the Mods when we don't have all the facts.
We have the Mods though, so we can still play them to death. I don't care much about MM. Sucks for community map builders like Kenjamin.
Edit: Kenjamin, if you get killed, do you at least spawn by your last "checkpoint"? Or just randomly somewhere on the map?
I still like the MOD Race v1.1 better, but I enjoy the competition in MM, only 8 racers at a time. Some losers have figured out to jump off and throw grenades at the leaders. Lazy 343 could have set for no grenades.
*As for the checkpoints, if you do drive off a cliff or in the water, it puts you back at your last checkpoint, but if the hill maker has the arrow the aimed wrong way you respawn facing the wrong way, Lazy 343!
Oh, and it has a 5 second delay before putting you back on a goose if you fall off. Sometimes...
After trying Race with Kenjamin my opinion is on hold for now. The zones are too bright for Vortex and maybe just plain too bright. I couldn't see the path for the zones. Maybe some experimentation is in order.

I had the same issue on Vortex - too many zones and too bright making it hard to see where to go next. I guess once you memorize the map it's better, but this was by far the worst map I played.
I did run some races with Ken and it was marginally fun, but the maps are boring. I only got to race on 3 maps - Ragnarok, Longbow and Vortex and I think Longbow is the best. Ken said there are two other DLC maps in the rotation, but good luck getting those to show up.
Oh and I figured out that if you miss a gate and don't realize it, you are out of luck. I finished a race with 20 points and was like "WTF?". Ken said that if you miss a gate, for any number of random reasons, and don't go back you are out of luck. So I went from an assumed 3rd place to last place becuase I didn't notice I missed a gate.
I guess hoping for community-made maps is too much to ask for at this point. I'm sure they would use the excuse of having to extensively test every map (and that point is valid), but what we got is kind of lame.
Having said all of that though, it was still a nice break from the other playlists.
Kenjamin, there is a post in Halowaypoint Wargames Feedback for Race. I posted about the zone brightness and the close proximity of too many zones.
I posted my 2-cents, somewhere after DEEP's and Darth's - They must realize they have a shrinking community to hear feedback from, you'd think they'd want to accomodate the last folks left, who (might) be Halo 5 customers???
Here's a shortcut if anyone wants to see what we wrote. Link's to mine, Kenji is a couple above mine and Darth and DEEP are on page 2. I got kinda harsh...

Your harshness was in check. Not rude. You may be correct about community map selection. I don't believe having the CC front end the map selection is as unbiased as it should be. I'm concerned 343i and CA didn't look at any maps not submitted by the CC group. I kind of liked the way Shishka did it for Halo 3. He vetted the maps. Authors supposedly got extra points for helping other map makers get their maps in shape. At least you knew it was Bungie looking a your map and not someone (or a group of people) with a conflict of interest. In spite of that, I'm still happy to give the CC group some kudos though. They did review and test a lot of those maps for the contests. A huge task.
So, it seems 343 can't be bothered to do any fixes as indicated in this quote from the thread:
Quote:
Thank you for your reports and feedback. We've confirmed that there's an issue with how the game handles ties in Race. We are currently heads down building the Rocket Race playlist, so we will not be updating Race in its first iteration. That being said, we are investigating potential fixes, and hope to release the with Rocket Race. Your continued feedback is greatly appreciated, and we will provide further updates when appropriate.
The problem isn't with how it handles "ties" - it's with a poorly tested, barely functional, highly anticipated gametype (By Race fans at least, there are more than you think.) that doesn't even meet standards set by a 'real' gametype in REACH. Lazy Lazy 343 - WTF!!!
We will not be updating - ? We'll Fix it with Rocket Race - ?! a totally different animal. 343 does not give a crap! I should not be surprised.
...We will not be updating - ? We'll Fix it with Rocket Race - ?! a totally different animal. 343 does not give a crap! I should not be surprised.
My thoughts exactly. I was wondering what Rocket Race has to do with the Race gametype as they play totally different and on (hopefully) different environments.
But I did a Forge test late last night on a Race map I had in progress. It turns out that they probably didn't use any Community-Forged maps because most of them have "the chance" you may fall off or die. Well, their half-assed gametype doesn't allow you to specify what direction a mongoose is facing when it respawns, no matter how you orient the Hill Marker in Forge. So, as I discovered on my test track and on the MM Longbow track, if you die by driving off into the water, or off a cliff, or into a Kill Zone, there's no telling what random direction you'll be facing when you respawn at the last checkpoint you passed. ...Bunch of boneheads. So anyway, I'm not updating any maps to use the 343 Race gametype. I will, if anyone asks, take any of the matchmaking race tracks and update them for the Race v1.1 gametype for our use with friends or Open-Site night. (I could even set them up to score by checkpoints instead of laps.)
Sorry to hear this, Kenjamin. I know you and tons of other Race fans and Forgers were looking forward to this, and it must be quite the letdown for all. I know you take pride in your maps, which is why they are good enough to warrant a "made by CHa0s" trailer ;), as I take pride in my own work. Makes you wonder where the pride is of those responsible for this debacle. I would be so ashamed. I wonder if they realize the more stuff like this happens the more fans they lose? I've been surprised by the "Well *I'm* not pre-ordering the next Halo" talk that's been about since Monday.

I have this great and probably naive hope. The reason Halo 4 got short changed was because much of the team has been head down on the next big Halo title.

I clearly remember reading these "exact sentiments" when REACH started to slip in popularity. Sorry, ...same old song and dance. Sorry DEEP.
Todays Waypoint bulletin even asks the community for Forged Race Maps and suggests they post in their forums. When forgers find the death/respawn randomness, they'll be limited to safe and enclosed tracks, we won't get any super twisty rollercoaster fun tracks. (343: Hey community, build us some content for our broken gametype, OK???) Titanfall, Destiny and even Project Spark already look better than anything I'd buy from your studio next year. Sad but True.
Kenjamin, wanted to pass along some great feedback on your maps! People are really digging them and Ragna-Rockets is an absolute hit. Why isn't Dirt Roads in your fileshare?! I wanted to play it last night but didn't realize I hadn't saved it. People have been playing and sharing your Blue (?) one too (the one on Forge Island that goes through the island). Everyone agrees the maps would be great in a playlist. Maybe they'll fix that respawn glitch by the time they put community content in.

Thanks AddiCt3d, I made them to be played on!
Dirt Roads v3 is in my fileshare...? it has the Rocket Race setup added. Updated BLUE Gate v2 is in there too. There is also a Rocket Race map on Vortex: Rocket-Vortex to go with Rocket-Narok. I have seen a slight bump in downloads. Thanks to those who try out my maps.
Matchmaking Race Update: 343 claims to have fixed the TIE glitch and has completely disabled Join-In-Progress. I think this is true based on a few races today. But they can't get rid of the backwards driving idiots and choke point trolls. My Race CSR is stuck in the mid 40s because dodging spoiler drivers has become the main focus of Race.
Those are cool screenshots AddiCt3d! - See my cool new image below!
Ha! 343 and Griefers be damned! I strike at thee thusly!!! Ho!

Yeah, that Rocket Race is FUN! So fun.
Congrats on the 50!
