Halo 2 Anniversary, if it comes true, discussion/argument
A NeoGaf member wrote this for his expectations. I agree with him. There won't be the numbers on XB1 to support a Halo 2 MM.
It'll probably be similar to HCEA and REACH where REACH got the MM maps. On second thought, how would they deal with the 360 maps? DLC I suppose. Unless, any remakes are for Halo 5.
H2A Predictions:
Theatre: Nope
Screenshots/Clips/Streaming/Movies: Nope
Kinect: Yup
SmartGlass: Yup
Skulls: Yup
"Original" Multiplayer: Nope
Online Co-Op: Yup
Halo 4 Multiplayer Remakes of Halo 2 levels: Yup
New Achievements: Yup
I'm kind of torn. On one hand, I'd like to see if the original Halo 2 multiplayer can actually withstand the test of time/nostalgia. Also, would they bake in the BXR, BXB and double shot button combinations into the game, or would those be treated like the glitches they were? It seems kind of dangerous to let something that's this revered and beloved this close to their (so far pretty different) version of the same IP. If there is no matchmaking, I can see them walking that tightrope. If there is matchmaking, and if it has visible ranks, and if it is essentially the Halo we've ben clamoring for again, that could be an issue.
They left the button glitches in the remake of Halo:CE (backpack reloading and double melee). Maybe they would leave them in H2 as well? Then again, CEA was campaign only, so not much harm done in leaving them in – it's not like the Covenant are going to complain that you can keep shooting while you reload your other gun.
Super bouncing may be a different story. I do hope they fix that since it did pretty much break the game in a more fundamental way than BXB.
I'd also like to see an updated gametype voting or veto system like Reach or H4 for matchmaking. I'd hate to be forced to play plasma rifle spawns on Midship or Waterworks.
I don't even want a Halo 2 remake anymore. Not for campaign. Not for MM.
The forums will be so full of butt hurt over everything. Duals/no duals. Button combos/no button combos. Include every flaw/exclude every flaw. The Arbiter's story is great/ it sucks. You a dino, you funny. Dinos are unfair in SWAT. MM/no MM. MLG revival/no MLG revival. The list goes on and on. Fucking forum nightmare.
Halo 2 has a great and wonderful spot in my memory. Now it's going to be all fucked up by butt hurt at every turn.
I love campaign so it will be difficult to avoid buying. Especially if the graphics are retooled well beyond the kind of upgrade HCEA received.
That's why matchmaking should be standardized. No dinosaurs, no overly cutesy stuff, and all that stuff. Spartans only. You can add in all the other stuff in custom games, where it belongs.
I'm fine with duals. I'd like for things to get rebalanced for the duals, though. Maybe make it harder to find plasma rifles or something. The tracking of the plasma pistol would have to be reduced too, which is good.
An MLG revival would be great for the franchise. It'd be nice to have more people/interest in the franchise again, although I think it might be too late. League of Legends and DOTA are too strong. Call Of Duty has had some interesting competitive-lite offerings with Clan Wars, but they still lack skill-based matchmaking. Halo, if they get their shit together, is still the only console title that I'm aware of that still has skill-based matchmaking. There's a product there that's unique (despite the fact that its a pretty old franchise). Shouldn't we refine that? Shouldn't that uniqueness be the centerpoint of the title's rebirth? Why try to grab all the other things that every other shooter does or does better and make that the focal point? That's how you get Halo 4.
Someone suggested that if H2A MM was on XB1, it would be with the Halo 4 engine. Could explain the rumour of Halo 4 being ported to XB1. I doubt this myself and expect any remakes would be on 360 where the population is.
Deep, all those things you listed are much better than the "nothing" that Halo has become on forums. No one cares anymore. Any amount of care is better than this, bad or good.
I don't like the bad. Tired of it. Nothing, is better for me.
Well we wouldn't want to disturb you from your nap, would we.
I agree with Shadow. All that passion resulted because H2 was so good that people cared a lot about it. It's like those soccer fans who get in huge fights in the stands. Bring it on!
then don't read it?
Frankly, I'm pretty tired of the whole Halo franchise. I'm ready for Destiny to take it's place, if that happens....
I mean, anyone up for some Frogger?
I didn't think so.
It's time to move on. :)
I can see Halo4 being ported to the Xbox One and I can see it being a game on demand or a free title. Then I can see the Halo2 multiplayer remake being an One only DLC. I'm starting to think we are not going to see Halo 5 this year, which to be honest is a good thing. Make Halo 5 awesome please.
I dunno. Halo 4 might be interesting on the Xbone as a free title to build H2 Anniversaty's multiplayer on, but I think it might make more sense to recreate Halo 2 and just release that.
They should bury H4 in a place where noone can ever find it again. Get a new developer, start with H3 and forget the last 4 years ever happened.
H4 wasn't the problem (necessarily). It was starting to veer back to a game that made sense. Blame Reach. Blame Bungie. H4 would have been a solid, but unspectacular entry into new IP, if that were the case.
Why would this idea be bad for MS, XB1, current H4 population or the consumer?
Almost sounds impossibly good.
We had another ton of fun in Halo 4 again tonight. Nobody ever asks to go back to the old Halo titles. H4 has lots of warts but it plays very smooth. Too much change upcoming for H4 to last another whole year though, even with our groups. People like OldnAchy have found good niches. We want some features back and some to go away but turning away from this much fun unthinkable.
If a quality Halo multiplayer is on the XB1, it'll help a lot to get our people moved over to it. I don't think an exact rehash of H2 would do it. It would have to be the H4 engine with maybe ordnance gone.
I'll bet you loved Reach too. ;)
We had two full good years out of it also.
The people that are still playing halo 4 more than likely enjoy it, therefore you won't hear them asking to revert to an older title. The ones that do want to play older versions either already do or have moved on from Halo (4) completely.

I know you've read it.
As long as each title sells well, the fluff people complain about is meaningless.
That makes me wonder: has the sales for each following game gone up? And then, a follow up to that, what's the part of the game that people paly more, and how much?
I'm not sure its even possible to get those numbers, though.
That doesn't mean anything. When H4 was released 360 installed base was about 65 million. When H3 was released 360 installed base was about 6 million. If H4 was as good as H3 it should have sold 10 times as many copies. It was nowhere close.
Seeing as how "good" is subjective, lets replace that with "received" and the point still stands.
I blame Drost.
your math doesn't take into account many factors, the most important are:
1) interest in the series (there had been only two games so far, and this was a pretty new system still - also many people were still into H2)
and 2) complete Xbox 360 game library at the time of release.
There were SO many more games by 2012 than there were in 2007. The 360 wasn't even 2 years old yet when H3 came out. People only have so much time and money.

Just the information from Mrs Doublefire. I've read Bungie and 343i allude to it still being true but nothing solid.
Best part about that? Kip and Dahji responded.
Just saw this:

I don't get why the big secret? H2 Anniversary, H5 or Halo: Active Camo and Jetpacks Edition - what is the harm in just announcing what is coming? The silence just serves to frustrate fans.
