Spreadsheet has been updated with this weeks spec car. Will update the HP and PP when I build the car later today. This is a Jason entry and Parcells is excited as its one my favorite's the always entertaining VW Golf. To top it off its also a touring car and you know what that means?...it means the car is awesome, I challenge anyone to find a crappy touring car in GT6.

All you need is the car (VW Golf IV GTI Touring car - 01) and some race medium tires and you're good to go. We'll be running a collection of short tracks this week. The non-spec cars this week are listed below. The below link always takes you to the non-spec car tab which should always be the sheet directly to the right of each week's spec car tab.

non-spec cars:

Spoon FIT race car - 03

Audi R6 Avant - 02

Shareholders update:

1) This week brings up a new month and with it a new set of non-spec cars. For the March non-spec cars do not feel it necessary to purchase the Chapparel race car as that is 3 mill. I'll try to get some feedback on whether everyone can acquire this car some Thursday night.

2) financially we're doing fairly decent. Not very often we have less than 8 participants which is positive and the close racing is really packing the stands but we can do better.

3) To-date Jason has been unsuccessful in getting us to choose Monza so this week I will force us to race Monza with the Audi...assuming Jason is on this week and he reminds me of this declaration.

4) By now everyone knows that anyone can submit a spec car. To-date we've driven spec cars exclusively created by Jason and Parcells and I'm currently sitting on 3 Jason created spec cars to be scheduled in the future. If you build it we will race it.

5) By now everyone knows that anyone can submit non-spec cars. To-date we've predominantly driven Parcells randomly chosen non-spec cars and we're shy for April and beyond so feel free to submit any number of non-spec cars and we'll get them added to the mix. Regarding non-spec cars if anyone wants to re-use any of our previous cars (as I did just last week) let me know and we'll schedule it in.

Sadly I agree with you Parcells on the Chapparal...Seems Zero has run out on us for obvious reasons...He is Sick and Tired of being Tired of getting bumped in the rear. I love the car myself but it just wouldn't be the same without The Zero!nocrying

My lack of attendance in this series has nothing to do with getting dive bombed or rear ended.  Rather, I am on the west coast and so it is very difficult for me to join you guys.  Last Thursday, for example, I did not get home from work until after 7pm PST.  I join when I can.

Zero...I apologize if you may have misconstrued my comment...First I admire The Zero...My comments were entirely tongue in cheek...I ran a lot of races with you and I appreciate the time spent..Also I appreciate your critiques on any issue..I know you play a lot of games but I wished you had more time with Grand Turismo or Forza. If you did you would be bumping my bumper for sure. Also I think you achieved a certain nuance in non-contact driving I have yet achieved but I am working on it... I know you are good enough to run with almost anyone. yessmiley

Yeah, you hit the nail on the head Wheels.  The primary game/sim I run nowadays is iRacing.  Yes, plenty of collisions occur in iRacing, but there are consequences to almost any contact, usually to both cars.  That reduces the amount of contact, particularly from behind.  If you play bumper cars, you won't last long.  In GT and Forza, on the other hand, you can have much more contact without consequence.

The other piece of it is that my main racing interest these days is oval NASCAR and no one does NASCAR at a level that is even remotely close to iRacing.  Our 2Old4Forza events are primarily road racing, which is fine, its just not my primary interest these days.

Zero..Fully Understand..Here is the only problem I see...There are different levels of expertise and skills in Grand Turismo and Forza...Therefore the obvious problems occur...The bottom line is punishment..I can see if I get punished for hitting someone but the guy who is innocent is also punished...Also the number of laps is small...One mistake with guys that are good and  it is over...I have no problem with any of it because I know my limitations that includes tuning...gearing...ETC. I may and I repeat may be able to hang in there when everything is totally even but as soon as you throw in the other variables that I have mentioned (Tuning..Gearing) I am usually a dead duck. Also anyone can see that however good you may think you are throw in some other variables (Night Time..Rain..Dirt..Snow..Pit Stategy) and it is a new ball game. I think the bottom line is having fun. Know your limitations and either try to eliminate them or live with them....yeslaughlaughlaugh

Car drives as expected – real well! My gear settings below.

One thing is for certain and that’s the first race at Matterhorn short is gonna be a complete shit storm. I can’t see how you can pass cleanly on any turn Maybe the last couple with 100% cooperation from the leading car but this race is gonna be fucked up LOL

Fucked up is OK every once in a while but as soon as I saw the track I thought it be funny to force a pit stop in this race cause the pit is near as long as the track. You’re definitely going down a lap. After realizing how hard it will be to pass it made me think a forced pit might not be such a bad idea after all in an attempt to separate us some.  Jason’s week/car so he can decide…we could try both for that matter?

Matterhorn final speed 118 all others 124

I'm all for the mandatory stop on the Matterhorn track. You can even throw in a mandatory tire compound chane if you want!

Sounds good Craig cause we may??? have lost a regular in Wheels last week I’m not entirely sure.

Near the conclusion of our second to last race last week I accidentally touched Wheels from behind heading into turn one at Brands Hatch and it sent him into the sand ruining his race and he was leading to boot…I’ve literally not seen or heard from him since and suspect he may be upset with Parcells?

Parcells...I have got to hand it to you...You always seem to crack me up...No I didn't throw a Hissy Fit for you tapping me into the sand..If anyone can remember anytime I get taken out..hit..bumped..dived bombed...The first thing I ALWAYS say is "No Problem"...Why??...Because I have hit..bumped and dived bombed people..Unintentionally but still guilty....So when intentionally or unintentionally I get my comeuppance I will not bitch..moan..or cry my eyes out...I actually though it was the last race so I just jumped out because I knew I was done. Now for may seem like a fade away from the site or postings I will attest that this time of year my wife, like the Swallows of Capistrano, is majically compelled to nag me into house projects...Hopefully with the sudden cold front reappearing she will now go back into a slumber and let me off the hook for a couple of weeks...See You Tonight!!!yeslaughlaugh

P.(arcell)S...I am still trying to figure out how you can come up on me so fast on straightaways. I know I had come out fast on the last corner before the straightaway... I don't believe you picked up a jet stream of a draft... I was running the advised gearing unless you do something entirely different.

Thanks Wheels. In all honesty I was as surprised as you that I got that close to you that we ended up touching, cause you’re right I do not recall any drafting but it must have occurred very late and no doubt caught me off guard.  I literally remember talking to myself thinking how the hell did that happen, its embarrassing.

Parcells adopts the slow in fast out approach (aka “smooth”) as much as I can and no doubt probably a bit too much on the conservative side sometimes (I'm sure others can attest to that) as I have some real early braking points on a lot of turns and the last turn on Brands Hatch Indy is definitely a turn that I brake extra early for…I think most of us tend to treat those last two right handers as one turn, hence one apex, where you really don’t have to slow down for the first turn (although you’ve probably already let off some speed prior to entering the pretty quick left hand turn on your approach to the final two right handers). Instead of braking late and risk ending up in the sand I brake about midway between the final two turns which allows me turn in early and to get on the gas and start accelerating before most (well before the apex) and we all know earlier to start accelerating always wins out on the following straight away which is the only reasonable explanation as to how I caught you since we were both using the same gearing and tune.

When to brake early or when to brake late?...While not always the case generally speaking if the straight heading into a turn is shorter than the straight coming out of the turn braking early is usually the faster option and vice versa depending on the lengths of the straights on either side of a turn.

Sounds like your still paying for leaving your wife locked up in the basement while you were racing one Thursday evening about a month ago? From my perspective it was worth it cause that was classic!

Dan was pretending it was 30 years ago, he was out in the boonies running from the cops with moonshine in the back of his pick-up truck...there was no catching the man!

Spoon car was fun, truck was fun but DAMN was it ever hard to slow that fucker down.

Don't know what's in store for next week yet but pretty sure it will be a mid-engine RWD :)

Oh great Parcells.  What the hell is the secret to racing on the dirt?  Every race it seems like I have turbo lag, and it just putters around the course.  That's why I bailed early last night.

Good to see you out again Unsub.

Some generic dirt tips below but the beast we were driving last night is not indicative of “most” dirt races.

1) The Toscana track from last night you need to know which turns to “cut” which is close to half of them.

  1. 2) Grip in dirt essentially sucks so you’ll want to focus on maintaining momentum which is why tip #1 is so crucial for Toscana.
  2.
  3. 3) Instead of braking hard ease off the gas a bit as you approach turns so you need less brake action come turn in time.
  4.
  5. 4) Not sure if its true or not but my guess is racing on dirt with a controller is significantly harder than on tarmac cause when you’re pushing the limits you do a shit load of counter steering…some fun with a wheel !!!
  6.
  7. 5) On the typical dirt tracks (Eiger Nordwand) you really want to avoid the pot holes and I’m not joking about this so you really need to know these tracks well cause there’s pot holes every where (predominantly in middle of track though)…work on this last, it aint easy.

Sorry I missed the great racing last night guys.  I had bought and set up all of the cars on Wednesday night.  But, I kinda had a better offer.  devil  The NASCAR iRacing series is at one of my favorite tracks, Bristol, this week and I rarely get the chance to run it more than once a week.  Anyway, there was a 6pm PST race last night and I did that instead of joining you fine fellows.  If it helps any, despite an early crash, I was able to still pull out a 6th place finish out of a 29 car, higher end split.  As much as I love GT, oval racing has become my #1 sim racing interest and iRacing does it better than anyone else, hands down.

Spreadsheet updated with next weeks car the Lotus Elise 2011. Some minor upgrades nothing tuneable and because of that coupled with my laziness I've decided to leave all tracks TBD until Thursday night when we race them. You may influence the track selection but please no jedi mind tricks.

non spec cars this week...

High End Performance G37

Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C6) - 06

Did you know that Thursday night racing allows all participants to drive whatever car they want? If you're not sure how this works please enquire and I'll tell you all about it.

This Lotus needs to have sport soft tires, you still need to be careful in and out of the corners.  Twin Ring Motegi East is a fun course with this car.

To not make this a total waste of a post (we do only have so many dont we?) consider this a reminder that 24 hours from now Thursday night GT6 racing will commence. Be there or be square!

ANNOUNCEMENT – MINOR RULES CHANGE

From this week forward tuning of the non-spec cars will not be allowed. Spec cars remain tunable if they come with parts that are tunable unless the spec car builder wants no tuning allowed but this can only be enforced with a stock built car. As always the tire compound for non-spec cars is negotiable based on room feedback on just how terrible the stock tires are.

I don’t need to explain myself for this rule change but I will because I’m very shallow and don’t want to look weak for those of you that witnessed Dan’s meltdown last week regarding the same. Regardless of how Dan went a tad overboard in sharing his feelings about the current Thursday night guidelines he was correct about the original intent of non-spec cars which started back in GT5 when we used recommended cars that also didn’t allow tuning.

When we switched to GT6 recommended cars were replaced with one make cars but I quickly realized the one make cars were a static list of 20 half-ass cars that we would of become very tiresome of very quick if that is all we had available to us to race. But GT6 did allow us to buy any one of the 1000 cars available in the game unlike GT5 so it was a real easy decision (and a correct one I truly believe – if the format was to remain the same which no one seemed to care about one way or the other) to change the non-spec cars to any car we want vs. limiting us to 20 non-spec cars every week.

At this point its simply a matter of one room setting which I originally decided to leave OFF (let the fools have their tartar sauce if you will) and until last Thursday it didn’t seem to be an issue but quite frankly I agree with it so that is what we are doing for now.
