GT Planet - S.N.A.I.L
Hey guys, I'm not sure if anyone is interested in running in series (based on the lack of series here anyway) however there is weekly series over at GTPlanet Called SNAIL (Sunday North American Interactive League) that runs the primary races each Sunday Night (along with other races throughout the week). The Sunday night series is the main event though as we had 103 drivers competing in the event this past Sunday alone across 8 different Lobbies (Divisions).
Here are a couple of highlights about the series
- All races are run with Stock cars (tuning prohibited except Brake Balance and Oil Change)
- Each Sunday there are six races (10-12 mins each race) across 3 different car track combos
- Each week, one combo is fully removed from the next weeks lineup along with either 1 track or 1 car from the remaining combos based on member vote
- member with the most points earned overall gets to choose the new combo while second and third gets to decide the other partial combo.
- Points are awarded each week and the season points start over each month
- Drivers are grouped based on similar skill level (Div 1 = Aliens, Div 8 = Rookies
- At the beginning of each month, drivers are re-assessed and either promoted or relegated to other divisions to keep them balanced
There are other details however those are the big items. Having a room of 10-16 drivers all with similar skills makes the racing extremely tight and intense. They take clean racing seriously and have a complete system for submitting incidents with depending on the infraction can be small points deduction to probation to even being parked for the next set of races.
I would love to have a series here however in the absence, this has really been a blast to participate in and some of the best racing I have been apart of and thought I would share the info.
There is a process for signing up but if your interested, here is the link - http://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/%probationE2%97%86-s-n-a-i-l-spec-racing-by-granstand-sim-racing-products-100-members-racing-on-the-same-night.235094/
just posted and awaiting response.
It will take a day or so as its pretty busy today. You should get a welcome post along with instructions on what you need to do.
Almost done with all the house spring projects/upgrades, will be looking to getting back into racing and series in a week or two and may have to check this out.
Sounds like fun but at a time Parcells does not normally race. Also sounds fairly similar to Thursday night's format.
submitted all my stuff. I hate Laguna Seca
I just submitted request to join - sounds like fun. Thanks for posting GGG!
Nice!
Jimee - You should get your division assignment in the next day or so. Dont buy the three cars yet except for the BRZ. The BMW combo is being voted out and either the Toyota or Tokyo R246 will be replaced. That said, once the official combos are accounced, you will want to get the oil changes and get some laps in. if you ever want to get some practice in, there is usually a room open somewhere to get laps in. These really help with the close driving especially in the opening laps.
Indy - Once you get your instructions (look for skills to reply your your post), get through them quickly so you can get assigned to a division. - Edit - looks like he just did!
Does everyone start out in Division 8 by default? I would imagine that it would contain a mix of guys who are good and guys who are all over the place. Will definitely be interesting!
No, you will be placed in a division based on your time trial laps in the FRS at Laguna Seca. During your first month in your assigned division, you are not eligible for the prizes (to prevent sandbagging) however at the end of each month, promotions/relegations take place to re-balance the divisions.
I was placed in Div4 and remained there for this month. Im off to a good start and had some great finishes given we had 15 drivers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and a Pole although not in that order). Considering I was starting mid pack or worse for 4 of those races, I'll take those results any day of the week.
Will be interesting to see where you guys get placed.
Just to add in case you havent see yet - Here are this weeks combo's
BRZ GT300 Base Model (Racing Hard) @ Grand Valley
2011 Mini Couper S (Sports Hard) @ Brands Hatch GP
2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray (C7) (Sport Soft) @ Tokyo R246
I got my placement today - division 3! Now I'll really have to practice for Sunday night. I was thinking I'd be easing into one of the lower divisions because I didn't think that my lap at Laguna Seca was that great since I just ran about five laps just to get it over with, haha. This will be interesting for sure!
Hey on what day do they typically change the combos? As of last night it was still showing the May 4 cars so I bought those. I even have to sell off some old cars in order to pay for the Subaru ($500k.. WTF?!). Now I have less than $100k in the bank - I may be forced to sit out this week due to lack of funds! LoL
The new combos try to be out before the Official Thurday Night practice sessions. It just depends on if the prize winners have already tested what they want to do. It usually takes 2 days to get the results posted for all the divisions and then to see if any of the winners have IR's filed against them.
As for you being in Div3, I had a feeling that might happen. Div4 is very full these past few weeks. That said, you have speed and should do ok. I went into my first couple weeks just getting used to the tight quarters and not really worring or pushing for podiums. Now that I have a few weeks in, Im getting better picking my moments.
I usually run laps in the combos on Thursdays, early saturday mornings and really focus on Sundays. Look for rooms that have snailracing.org in the lobby titles for open practice and jump on in.
I got Div. 5. I hate laguna and it show with my times. I can't get that track.
You should do well there Jimee!
As for tonight, I may be late.
What an ignorant league. I hop online to join race but no one has sent me friend invite. I finally get guy to send friend invite, but host has change. Send new host a friend invite, but since he started room before I was his friend I am unable to get in. I tell him this.. no one responds to message. I go on message board to post a question - I'm told I did wrong thing, should have followed instructions. I follow instructions they send me - no list of who I am supposed to add to friends list. All it said was that I was to look forum before race to see when room created, which I did. What a half-assed run league this is. Not impress at all. Maybe this is why no one races GT6 online seriouslt and all either race iRacing or play Call of Duty.
That really sucks and Im sorry your experience was sour your first night out. The big problem is the person who used to maintain the "Official Driver" list dropped the ball at the end of April when the promotions adn relagations took place and they have not cleared that up. My suggestion is to send FR to more than just the hosts, send it to a bunch of them that are full time races in D3. That said, I do hope you race next week
The good news Indy is that it looks like the BRZ (preliminary) will be safe from elimination and either the Mini or Brands Hatch will be replaced. It would have added salt on the wound if you spent the money on getting the BRZ only to have it replaced
Damn, thats a shame Indy. Sorry you had a bad experience. I actually had a good experience with my room. I went to the old drivers page and found the host, co-host and alternate host and sent FRs
Group 5 voted to get rid of the BRZ IRC. That was the one car I had all of my troubles in. Couldn't keep it in a straight line.
The Mini was the most fun and the Corvette was a good car too.
The Mini was tough for me. Not sure if its the track or the car wuth that combo was rough. I really enjoyed the vette and the track. Shame we couldnt run it again.
The Mini was probably my best combo with the corvette next. Got a win in both.
I sucked at the BRZ couldn't break into the top 10 with that. It was also the one I didn't get much practice with.
New Combos are out.
In addition to the BRZ that remains
Suzuki GSX-R/4 '01 @ Brands Hatch GP
PP - 499 (after oil change)
HP - 180
Wt - 640 kg
Tires - Sports Medium
DT - MR
Laps - 7 laps
Ferrari 365 GTB4 '71- Mount Panorama
PP - 503 (after oil change)
HP - 363
Wt - 1200 kg
Tires - Sports Medium
DT - FR
Laps - 4 will put you in the 9:00-10 minute range / 5 would be in the 11:15-12+ range
Sadly the Ferrari does have a heft price tag of $550,000 however I have a feeling it will be around for a bit
These are the new cars. There is a updated post on the SNAIL thread.
The Panarama track may change to Silverstone GP. There seems to be a problem with large group, seems communication is a big problem along with guys getting drpped out of the room. We will know more after practice starts tomorrow.
This sucks donkey balls. The BRZ needed to go. Mini and Corvette were fun.
im going to have to bail on this league - the cars are too expensive. i had to race the online seasonals last weekend just to buy the Subaru. now there are none left thst i can do and it will take me two weeks to run enough series events to raise that kind of cash. pretty ridiculous.
Okay - good news: I forgot that I got almost $500k for doing the GT Academy thing, so I do barely have enough cash for this car. However, you're certain that this Ferrari is the right one? I looked on Page 1 of the forum page and I still shows last week's cars.
Be sure to look at the OP on the SNAIL Thread atg GTP. Due to stabuility issues at Bathurst, they dropped the track and moved the Ferrari to Silverstone GP. That is all
Had my first pratice runs with the new cars.........well lets say I won't be having a good night. I dislike both.....very much. Maybe its Silverstone, never been any good there and this just confirms it. The Suzuki is a pain in the ass.
Going to be a tough Sunday
Holy crap how the hell did I end up in Group 3? These guys are all 7-seconds faster than me at Brands Hatch!!! I got lapped by four of them in the first race, and in the second race I started on the pole (for finishing last) but I just pulled over.
Which division is for the guys who want to practice 10 or 15 minutes and then race for fun? I'm clearly in the division with the I-Play-Every-Day group. Fahq!
I feel you. I was bumped to D3 today at mid season so perhaps you and I can race each other in the back of the pack next week If I stick around.
