I remember setting up remote dial-in for business use and having a rack full of modems all hooked into a multiplexer device. Pretty insane, I think that was 1998/1999 ish. Basically as soon as DSL was available, I got it. I was so quick on it that I got a static ip address with my home service. I think it was like 512k down and 128k up or something like that. By todays standards it would feel like dial-up LoL..

I saw one on an old episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer last night!, well I heard it first, then saw the system. The guy was bragging it was state of the art tech, haha!
I'd hope no one is. That's just torture.
Yeah that is my thoughts so not expecting anyone to say they are.
For work purposes, yes.
Never. Not at work, any friends house, the library, in an emergency of some sort, ever, and I'm in the middle of the mountains in CO.

no, it's been a loooong time since I heard one...
The last time I used one was in 2001 to play Counter-Strike.
2002 for me. Good old days of chat rooms.
2002 or 2003 for me. CS and TFC.
forced my parents to get cable internet in 1998 I think.

512k down was awful in 1999, lol.
no and I would use my 4g smartphone as a wifi hotspot before I would try to use a 56k modem.
LOL well no more than I expected.
But I like the screeetchy sounds....
Ah, the 56k modem days, what a pain to have dealt with. I thankfully do not use a 54k modem and I will never go back to it. I'm happy with cable.
We still use them on a regular basis at work to program/run diagnostics on old systems. Some of these systems communicate at 300 baud #snore.
