Was pretty excited about this game, but I was also let down by Titanfall. Going to wait for reviews when it's about to come out, and might even just rent it at first.
So, I think I'm glad I saw the Halo stuff before seeing Destiny. Destiny seems a little meh to me, but I do say that without all the information. The campaign stuff is some kind of Halo Borderlands, which is fine, I guess. PvP seems like a slower pace to the gameplay. It isn't so twitchy and as fast paced as Titanfall or Call Of Duty. The heavy ammo pickup seems to be like a damage burst custom powerup.
I look forward to more information and more details, but for right now, it doesn't seem so genre-breaking yet.
Destiny is going to be one of those games you have to play in order to understand it. It'll cost me $60 for that understanding and I don't see it as a bad gamble, but you never know.
Watching some of the Alpha for Destiny, it looks like a ton of fun.
There is "special ammo" that spawns for use in your secondary guns like sniper and shotty. The "heavy ammo" is for the rocket launcher and heavy machine guns, etc. You get ammo for your primary pistol or assault that can be found on ground. Grenades basically replenish themselves after a cooldown.
The game is slower-paced, more in the lines of Halo than COD/Titanfall - but I'm sure it's also due to the fact people are so new to the game.
The maps and graphics look amazing.
Oh and you do bring in your own unlocked guns, but they are basically "powered down" for multiplayer and then scaled back up when you go back to campaign. I was wondering how they would balance this game mechanic, now I know and that makes sense.
I'm still on the fence about this game. Read the other day that a person from IGN didn't want to stop playing the alpha, so that's a good thing. I think I might just rent this first to be safe.
I sure hope that there's an option to turn off the announcer in multiplayer, or the voice in the alpha is just a place holder because it's awful - a deal breaker almost...

You're insane. Having Tyrion Lannister announce the game is awesome.

He's not talking about your personal AI Ghost - that is Tyrion. He's talking about the announcer in The Crucible - the PvP part of the game.
I will say this, the voice is certainly change from what we have for Halo...lol

Yes this. I wans't referring to the Ghost voice, just the MP announcer voice. It's the opposite of Halo for sure where manliness and a minimum of words were the standard.
Well I played some of the Alpha build of Destiny tonight; and right off the bat, the play mechanics are Halo 2.0, so if you liked the control scheme and feel of those games, than your going to feel right at home.
I found the A.I very similiar to enemies you meet in the Halo franchise, they are smart enough to work in groups and ambush you, took me awhile to defeat a special Fallen Commander (he had a yellow health bar above him, while others were in red), and he was shredding my shields very easily (hence making money and buying new equipment); the game did allow the option of visiting another site on Earth that stated to me that I should be at least Level 6 before entering by myself, so I went elsewhere where I was a Level 1 Warlock fending off Level 3 Fallen enemies.
My feel for the game is that it is definitely made to play with friends online and perhaps makes things a little easier than going it alone; there are timed events just exactly as have been shown in play demonstrations by Bungie in the past, as for the Tower; I was able to buy and upgrade my equipent from the Warlock Chief (there's one for each class in the main hallway) they will give you a few credits and allow you to obtain one free weapon upgrade from the Weapons Vendor (there are other vendors throughout that are independant of your classes personal arms dealer)
Customization of your overall look of your character is purely cosmetic, but I certainly would love to hear what people have to say about each individual class, personally for me, I will have to try out the Hunter & Titan too. I do wish however that Bungie would have allowed us to explore at least one other planet besides Earth, but maybe that will happend when the actual Beta is released on July 17th??
Played for a few hours last night and wasn't that excited. Nothing grabbed me as a "gotta get this game" At this point I'm not impressed or excited. Sadly I was hoping for more. Maybe the beta will show something to convince me to buy.
I got to play the alpha all weekend, (mostly pvp) by far the most fun I've had sense halo 3. When I first played the controls felt clunky. After I leveled my character up and started getting better weapons and gear the controls felt way better and the movement was faster and more precise. I can see how first impression of this game might be negative but I feel at high end play this game is going to be awesome. The games does feel a bit like halo but mixed with cod or battlefield gun play mostly due to ADS.
I have been playing the alpha fairly extensively the past weekend and here are a few thoughts. The game feels like a mix of Halo, Borderlands, and a MMO. As a long time MMO fan, I like this. However, some people who are used to Call of Duty type gameplay may find the gathering quests tedious. And while I enjoy the quests, there needs to be a main story to go with it. Traveling back and forth doing quests got rather boring after a while. The quests also started to repeat way too often.
When another fireteam entered our game, it didn't add anything to the gameplay. I believe we were doing a gathering mission when they showed up. It would have been nice if they popped in during the "event" and helped us battle the big spider.
The Tower feels straight out of Mass Effect. Here is the main city where you can buy supplies, ships, weapons, and other crap. While playing without squadmates the Tower was filled with other players. Mostly everyone just pointed and danced with each other. It would be nice if there was a way to communicate to see if anyone was doing the same missions as you.
Double jumping is really floaty. I unlocked a higher jumping ability a it feels like my guy is in the air for 10 seconds at least. Basically a sitting duck.
Multi-player feel like Halo 2 to me, which is a good thing. The vehicles are a little overpowered at the moment.
Overall I like the game, but I could see how some people may not.
Forge Island is a free map and used a lot, so be sure to get it.

I thought the video was underwhelming too, but I hope Destiny is good. Honestly, I'm more pumped for Watch Dogs.
How do i "show up"?

All customs, all the time.
Must be somebody on your FL that's in the party. If not, send DEEP NNN an XBL message and I'll try to send an invite.
Good points about Destiny on the Joystiq cast from a few weeks ago. Please listen if you have time. Destiny talk starts at 1:29:39

There are a bunch of Twitch streams showing Alpha gameplay now and thru the weekend, and a few good YouTube clips showing some of the other features.

P.S. I'll have Beta codes for 2old2play OG's in the future as well.
Can't wait to play Destiny! Most excited about the PvE portion but I'm sure I'll also play the PvP.
BTW, thanks for the write-up.

@Bungie 7hThere's a rumor that the
#Destiny Alpha might be extended to allow dangerous experiments. Play beyond the official close at your own risk!I got to play the alpha all weekend, (mostly pvp) by far the most fun I've had sense halo 3. When I first played the controls felt clunky. Dancing!
Please say NO.
Here's how it will go...
kill DEEP, crouch, crouch, dance a little jig, then sit down on the face of his dead corpse and wave. Uber-Teabag!
The butt of jokes.
The joke of butts.
I'll see my revenge. ;)
More seriously, DANCING, what is its purpose?
Can I completely avoid it in Destiny?
Do any parts of the game require it?
Will I be held back in any way, if I do not participate in it?
Relax DEEP, you old wallflower, are you shy about your moves?
Just don't hit that button on the D-pad, It seems to be only a goofy action with no impact on gameplay - Wave-Point-Sit Down- Dance.
Are you nervous about what to do if a HOT female player starts to dance for you?
