New to online gaming

Ok, I am a 48 year old retiree(not by choice) with a great wife and two college graduates.  With a little extra time on my hands I wanted to try my hands with online gaming.  I did try several years back with the original XBOX-NFL Fever, but got turned off with all the A$$*!@($^&!!    I then came across 2OLD2PLAY and  After reading a few posts here,decided to give it another try.  Started playing text games with the old TANDY PC, had a COLECO for a while then chose SEGA over Atari.  Stood in line for the Original XBOX, and currently use the XBOX 360 and XBOX 1.  Got to playing online with GTA 5 on the 360 after hearing it will be coming out for the XBOX 1.  Play MADDEN25 and Assassin's with the ONE and GTA 5, GEARS 1-3, NCAA14 with the 360.  Got a few games with STEAM as well.  First person point of view games are not where my skills are but third person point of view is.  Though with the PC, I can hold my own thanks to the mouse and keyboard with shooters like DOOM, Wolfenstein.
