Tell us cool stuff to look for, avoid, etc.
I have a fully upgraded Shingen-E with the "Stability increases the longer you fire it" modifier and it kicks ass in pvp. I think its flavor text is something like: "This superb rifle was made to pop skulls." I also like the Cydonia AR in pvp. In beta, the Galahad ARs kicked ass, but I havent seen one in the live game. Has anyone?
Although I love them in pve, the 60+ clip size bullet hose ARs (Sahara and Eclipse, etc) are not accurate enough for pvp.
I use pulse rifles on more open pvp maps. I havent used a scout rifle yet even though that is mostly what I used in Beta. I did get a legendary SR last night, (upgrades to 300 damage) but I havent used it yet.
I got two blue handcannons crafted by "Tex Machina" that have really awesome stats. One has an 8 shot clip, the other has 9. I havent used any handcannon in pvp yet, but they completely own in missions.
I think the Shingen ARs are what most people use in the Crucible. I do see an occasional Handcannon or Pulse Rifle, but ARs still rule the roost.
I did find a Galahad, but the Shingen seems to be a bit better, at least for me.
Once I get more comfortable on the maps, I may switch it up, but for now I'll be running a Shingen AR.
I used hand cannon primaries for most of the time during the climb to a 20 - I like its impact strength, but my daughter convinced me to switch to a Scout rifle. That's what she uses, and she's completed several 18/20 Strike missions without dying once, yet kill totals were about same as the other two players. She had the most in one of those games.
So far the only think I can kill people with in the Crucible is old school shotgun camping. Hopefully it won't take me too long to remember how to use a controller again.
ARs seem pretty weak in pvp. I feel like all anyone uses are one hit kill weapons.
I am with you. I am to 2 trick pony right now titan hulk smash and the shotty . Pretty sucky with everything else. Still not level 20 so I think I am underguned most pvp I have done have all 20s.
The first blue I got was a pistol. I was not impressed at low lvl with them so I avoided them. Wholly crap was I wrong! For PVE they rock!
played my first crucible tonight and I would agree the the auto rifle works well, even against a shotgun if you can create some space.
For me, its all about Scout Rifles and Handcannons. I see way too much shotgun use in PvP, though. Aside from the prevalence of space magic, the rampang shotgunning is my biggest beef.
(Beef number 3? The maps that are almost all close quarters and encourage the shotgunning.)
I agree about the shotgun thing. They need to cut the special weapon ammo availability in half or by 2/3. Or make them just like the heavy weapon ammo.
By the way, the "field choke" shotgun mod is pretty nasty. Gives it pretty good range. There is also a shogun modifier: This weapon can be fired in full auto." Heh.
For PvE give me a Pulse Rifle. Much more effective since Bungie increased their base stability. I've got no problems getting all three rounds on target for critical hits. FWC tends to have a hand cannon with the perfect balance ability that I will try when I get there.
I will be keeping the next decent Auto Rifle I find for the Crucible, but I'm just not that interested in PvP yet.
Just hit level 20 and my favorite weapons are the automatics and I have a Level 10 blue heavey machine gun that I'm still leveling up and it's a beast in both PVP & PVE. The rarest weapon ability i've come accross seems to be on a scout rifle that lets me pick up any ammo type by shooting at it. Seems like that could come in handy on so many levels. Has anyone obtained a gold weapon yet?
I've always been a scout rifle guy for both the story game & crucible. Have been running Trax Mallus for the most part but I just hit level 17 & just got my first blue--a Naraka SR5 & enjoying it so far.
I haven't really done much with other gun types but welcome to hear peoples best of breed so I can be on the lookout. Generally I've alternated between the different snipes but haven't found a true favorite yet.
Agree people need to chill on the shottys but you do what you gotta do. The damn ttight hallways in PVP is just space magic and shorty hell....
I've seen the exotic rocket launcher a couple of times, Gjallahorn: http://destiny.wikia.com/wiki/Gjallarhorn
Love my legendary machine gun. It's like a quick semi auto sniper on 'roids.
Found an exotic LMG yesterday from a purple engram, was pretty happy.
Spent all day trying for another legendary anything, got nothing. Finally got lucky and got a purple weapon from a blue engram, another LMG. FML.
On the plus side, I got my vanguard rank up so now I can just buy any legendary stuff I want.
Anyone know what the upper capacity is on handcannons? I scored a blue with 11 rounds and great stats but I just woke up and was dismantling rather then equipping, I will be regretting that all day now. Can't wait for my first purple!
I've got a blue handcannon, the Regulator, that holds 11. There's another one, the Maverick, which holds 8. That's as high as I've seen and I love the handcannons in this game.

No expert, but aren't the weapons and players normalized in strength when in PvP? For example, a legendary gun isn't any more or less powerful than a level 10 weapon of the same type, and that 200-300 level chest armor you have isn't any better than a 50.
Haven't tried it yet, but am thinking about trying to use a sniper rifle for close quarters combat in PvP. My problem is I can't keep enemy players in the sights long enough for an AR type weapon to finish the fight. I do pretty well in Halo 4 Shotty Sniper games with snapshots. This is assuming a sniper is a 1sk for headshots and 2sk otherwise in PvP. Just thinking out loud...
The weapon DAMAGE is "normalized", but the weapon's perks are still counted. Same goes with armor. Those perks can make a big difference in how teams are balanced.
Also, you'll get destroyed trying to no-scope in the Crucible - this isn't anything like Halo 4. If anything, it's more like trying to quick-scope from COD.
No. Armor still seems to matter, and the perks and weapon trees carry over as well.
It seems more complicated than it "should" be. There's enough bloom in the sniper rifle to not really rely on headshots, but you'd know that from trying to no scope things in the campaign. You'll get rolled by the shotgun army out there.
I'm actually quite good at no scope snapshots with the sniper in campaign. My Titan is a 24, but I'm also leveling a Warlock (now level 10). Out of scope aim-assist with the sniper seems more noticeable than any other weapon.
Unless I'm carrying a shotgun I feel like my primary and secondary weapons are nearly a waste of time in PvP - hence my musings about trying a sniper. I got a positive K/D in a couple games, but they were mostly grenade kills, super kills, melee kills and shotgun kills. Many more got away because I couldn't close the deal on weakened players.
Campaign isn't multiplayer.
The only two purples I have so far are weapons. A scout rifle and pulse rifle (The Fair and Square). I just got the pulse rifle, but it seems to have longer range and better stability than the scout rifle. Both have the "Motion tracker still works when zoomed" modifiers, so will be good for pvp.
Ive yet to get a single piece of armor, so i have probably another whole day of grinding dead orbit rep before I can buy them.
I got a purple shotty last night. I've yet to try it in Crucible. Bought purple gauntlets and chest armor today. Now I need a non faction warlock band. My bad, I should have saved one.
They Cryptarch always sells at least one class item engram I believe.
EDIT: I also forgot to mention that when I got the legendary pulse rifle, I had gone .30 KDR (dont ask). I'll be everyone else in the game was real happy about that.
On another particularly bad game where I went sub .3 (again - dont ask), I got a blue Titan mark that has the flavor text "Sometimes the Crucible tells you everything you need to know about a person." (or something similar). LOL. This cannot be accidental.
I'll check if the Cryptarch has one. Thanks for the tip. 0.30. I've gone sub 0.2 I'm still getting takin' out with one shot or a single grenade while I must pump 3 shotgun rounds to get someone to drop. Same qith fully charged melee. I'm licky if mine drops shields while I get taken out it one punch.
Yeah, I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I keep a positive kdr in Halos. I this one, I am getting crushed. I am used to halo where you get shot and you have time to react. Here, it seems I die in less than a second to an AR. I have no time to react. Nevermind all of the shotgun campers. They need to nerf the shit out the shotty in Crucible or make special ammo a drop like heavy ammo. Im not sure if its latency or what. I have a 125mb connection, so it isnt on my end. Its just a lot of times I am dead before I ever hear the bullets. Maybe this is more CODish (which I have never played) but I have to say I dont like the amount of time it takes to kill people (or die).
The kill times are certainly faster than Halo, but longer than COD - so it's kind of in between those two games.
I'm getting better in Crucible, but it can be a steep learning curve.
Use your radar, run with your team and don't ignore the heavy ammo.
So I give the agent of nine guy 23 motes for an exotic engram and he gives me some exotic armor for a hunter.... I'm a warlock. If I want friggin hunter gear, I'll play as a hunter. I hate that they give you stuff for other classes
Funny, I'm a Hunter and I got an exotic Titan chestplate from the engram I bought. I don't mind it, honestly. I've got two purples in my vault for other classes too from previous engrams.
I still don't like it. I just think it's dumb to have to put all this time and effort into a class just get gear for a class I don't even have a character for. It's one thing for random engram drops, but if I'm grinding all week just to get enough MoL or strange coins to buy an exotic, it SHOULD be for the class you are running.
