True, the RNG will still bend you over and not even bother to hand you a towel to clean up. But I think the idea is you'll be able to get a few rare pieces with light...assuming you have enough rare or better engrams, and that they do indeed decode to gear matching your current lvl. This could be a decent way to get started at 20.
I'm curious to see how that all plays out as well. Please keep us posted.
Chaos posted this on her Halo Diehards site, but it's a video of chest farming. One thing I'm not sure about though, do the chests respawn (in other locations in the area) at some point or do I have to go back to orbit and then return to the area?
I farmed spinmetal for 2 or more hours last night. I don't know if level matters but loot chests were respawing in the same spots. No returning to orbit. Seems time based to me I looted some chests 4 times. Found a couple more gold ones too. Almost traversed the entire map of Earth. I went to a place I saw ?? enemies in the beta and they were a couple 18 Hallowed Knights and a bullet sponge 19 Celebrant of Oryx
I tried the loot cave for about 30 minutes one evening - so boring. Yeah you can get plenty of green drops for weapon parts and the occasional blue/purple, but it's just awful standing in one place and shooting into a cave.
I'd rather just play the game and get my drops in other ways - but that's just me.
I have no proof, other than word of mouth, but I heard that the update that came out yesterday makes it so the loot cave enemies no longer drop ammo. Can anyone else confirm/deny this?

Hmmm, I applied the update but I'm not sure if I looted it before or after. It worked for 5 min., last time I tried it.
I farmed the cave the other day and all the stuff dropped.
1. Don't stand close to the cave, the farther back the better. If just 3 acolytes are coming out then you are two close and you have to shoot everything that comes out otherwise it won't spawn right.
2. Ammo will repawn on you after about 25 seconds after you exhaust all your ammo so there is no reason to run into the cave to collect ammo.
3. If you want to level up fast, you get XP even if you don't kill anything and drops happen even if you don't shoot something, so you can just sit on a rock and reap benefits even if you don't do anything. I leveled up 13 lvls in four hours on Sunday just hanging out. If you do a glimmer consumable you get more and more glimmer for each hive enemie killed it just keeps increasing and increasing until you stop.
Was there this morning waiting on a public event drop to finish a bounty and clearing up some fallen headsots for a queen's bounty. Figured it would be a good place for it and get some drops at the same time.. After the mob of enemies started rushing the place and got cleared out, the guys went back to shooting the cave while I was picking off fallen. No ammo drops were in the cave at that point.. There was still plenty left from the mob so kinda pointless if that is what they intended.
On a side note got a Final Boss legendary sniper out of a blue engram so good day.
Anybody run any of the Queen's strike missions (Queen's Wrath) yet? If so, was it worth it?
Yes, because you are guaranteed a legendary item (purple) Even if you get the same thing 5 times (like me) you can break it down for ascendant shards (for upgrading legendary/exotic items)

^^^^ Got my first legendary last night doing one of her missions.

Did two last night, got a helmet and some robes. Also got my first purple engram drop.
Vaht and I did the cave for about a half hour night before last. After about 10-15 minutes of farming, a door on the building right next to our rock opened and out poured an overwhelming flood of enemies. Now that was fun!
I still have at least one Queens Wrath mission in my inventory. Finishing her orders will get me at least half way to 29 light if not more. Helping others may get me there if I still get the armor at the end.
Sometimes there is a fair bit of overlap in the bounties.
Queens Wrath - kill 3 walkers (do it in patrol mode) Vanguard - complete Sepics Prime Vanguard - Complete strike without dying. Vanguard - 9000 pts without dying. Vanguard - 100 kills without taking damage
and etc.
It can be an enjoyable exercise to farm effeciently and test yourself at the same time.
I also recommend never patrolling without a patrol active. Free Vanguard points for your valuable time.

agreed.
also, don't forget about the other vendors. Buy their class item, equip it, and patrol til your heart is content. Future war cult, Dead orbit, New monarchy, all have nice weapons and gear. I equipped the Future war cult class item AFTER I got to Vanguard rank 3. There is nothing to buy right now for Vanguard rank 4, so a person should get to at least rank 3 with all the vendors to be prepared for future content.
Duke said he was advised to hang on to his Ingrams until hitting level twenty. They're supposed upgrade with you. I'm waiting for his results.
The still decode into crap at 20 and above.

Anyone try out the now world famous Loot Cave? (just bumped into it a couple days ago without then fully understanding what it was)

I like it for leveling up. I got my warlock from 12-20 in about 2 hours.

I reached 26 TITAN. Queens Wrath playlist. Got armour. Yay!
Also, staying with Vanguard the whole way gave me the rep and skill for armour too.
Did it for a few minutes this morning but then a couple of randoms showed up and got pissed that I ran in and grabbed a couple of green drops.
I have no proof, other than word of mouth, but I heard that the update that came out yesterday makes it so the loot cave enemies no longer drop ammo. Can anyone else confirm/deny this?
Well, they did say engrams were still dropped, just no ammo. So (if true) you're there until you run out of ammo.... no resupplying in the cave

I just checked, ammo is still dropped

I think I found this cave last night, didn't hang around though since I was working on bounties.
Reapers ...

So to answer my own question, they are worth it.

So far I've done 4 Queen's missions and got 4 cloaks. I'd like a legendary sniper or shoes or gloves. Shards are nice when you dismantle them.
Ive been able to finish two solo so far (26 titan). Sadly, I got the purple chest armor both times. I need a purple helmet.
Any of the damage modifiers are ok Juggler modifier on the mission sucks though. The Shrines of Oryx has been the easist so far.
