help Im new:)
Hellow fellow 2old2play friends.. I have been a forever member of this site but always and forever played console games.. I recently purchased a gameing Asus Laptop and am for the lack of a better phrase lost :) I am curently downloading Civ V and planet side2 and dayZ.. im lost in the wind when it comes to gameing mouses and any other must haves when it comes to PC gameing.. I have an account on Steam its xIACOx
I was hopeing my gamertag would have been avialable witihout adding the timmy x's on the front and back but its better than tossing a bunch of random numbers on the front and back..
I have been absent form the 2old2play family for a while.. but im still here and kicking around real life has been a tough nut to juggle:)
do we have many people that play PC games here? honestly i have had blinders on and have only allowed my slef to look a console stufrf.. i have secretly pined over the freedom of PC games.. but all my multiplayer experience has been in the xbox live world.. soooooo PC friends lists? do they even exist? if so.. how do you find games to play with people? seccond to that can you talk to each other? looking for a friendly light or familar name in the world of PC games :)
I'm normally a PC gamer but my rig is currently in storage. Long story, I'm kind of in between places to live at the moment. As soon as I land a place I'll be sure to add you on Steam.
I play exclusively on the PC but my internet has been down due to a technical problem on the Verizon FiOS box. Once that gets straight I will add you on Steam. You can send me a request on there as well, it is Cardiac Wolf. There are a lot of good free-to-play games on PC as well you might want to try.
I'll send you a friend request now.
The PC gang has been a little fractured, only due to the reasons listed above, and my own change of continents - hopefully Fall / Winter will see our band of merry men get some games in.
Currently, I'm active in FPS only - Insurgency, Payday, the new COD and Battlefield 4.
I love me some point and click - check out The Dream Machine on Steam - awesome !
What stuff do you need ? I'd say only a decent headset/ mic, ( mine was CAN $ 60 - a Razr something or other ), and a gaming mouse. Try different mouses / mice in the palm of your hand to se what feels best for your budget. I don't think it makesa huge difference, but more buttons and controllable polling rate will help - for example, the new COD has a bug, but being able to change the polling rate works around that.
Play some stuff, then see how you feel. None of the gear I mention is necessary, but nice to have and the mic is essential for talking to others.
Talk is done over programs such as Ventrillo or Teamspeak - it takes some configuring, can be nightmare, but allows private chat lobbies. A lot of games have " Push key to talk " channels in them, but the chatter is nothing like as hectic as console.
Welcome to PC gaming, where the first thing you learn is that you need a more expensive PC than you already have
Ben

Hey, man! I'm in the same boat. Gamed on Xbox for ages and got turned off by M$'s behavior over the last year or so. Migrating to PC as soon as my Alienware rig shows up in a couple days.
So I'm very much learning the PC protocols & how it all works. I just set-up my Steam account & can't wait for the Black Friday games sale. I'll drop a friend request your way and hope to see you in-game in a few days.
Meanwhile, folks, please send me some FR's & pvt. msgs. & big bags of legal tender ("Pork Meat Perry" - AKA http://steamcommunity.com/id/porkmeatperry)! I dig shooters & racing games and have just had my fill of the foul language, racism & assorted ugliness on the console networks. It darn near made me quit gaming.
I love to put up a good competitive showing, but appreciate comraderie & good sportsmanshp even more. Laid-back mature gaming is the ticket for yours truly.
Hey, while we're at it, how to I change my 2old display name? It's based on my old Xbox moniker & I'd like to cut all ties to it.
I look forward to getting shot in the neck by "y'all".
It's a bit of a learning curve...but once you're there, it's hard to go back.
I've probably gone to 95% of my gaming on the PC now...and I've got an xBox, x360, PS2, PS3 & Wii in the house (granted the PS2 & xBox are boxed up right now). Once in a while I'll toss something in one of the consoles, but it's pretty rare nowadays. Triple monitors and full simrig pretty much have me converted for life I'm thinking.
