Can't push the Templar off the platform with grenades..... So, how do you kill him now?.... Maybe leave someone back on the previous elevated ledge with lotsa rockets/grenades/Ice Breaker, then everyone else jumps down to the conflux area?

I wanted a SUROS, but looks like they de-tuned it... Glad they didn't fw the Ice Breaker. All that work for shards/energies now seems....

Lots of good stuff. I think this is an excellent update.

Minotaur, you'll still want those shards and energies to upgrade your Legendary armor and weapons, so they are still very important.

I'm also glad to read about the changes to Thorn and Bad Juju. I enjoyed the Thorn before the update, but it wasn't great in higher level activities; I'm hoping these new changes will make it even better.

Destination materials now dropping from the daily Patrol and Daily Heroic Story is a welcome addition, as well as the option to buy them in the tower.

Leaving Suros' range and rate of fire alone still keeps it as a viable weapon for me at least.

Early reports are that in PvE Thron does nearly 4x the damage per tick.  Don't expect that to last.

Killing the Templar really isn't that hard the legit way. Group I play with has done it once, ever other time we cheesed him.

Killing the Templar on Normal mode is easy as shit. It is no harder than any other part of the raid. It takes a few more mins than cheesin but it is a fun fight and I always preferred to not cheese it on normal since cheesing is boring as fuck.

Hard will be a bit more of a challenge since 90 percent of hard roups cheesed it 24/7. It may take the raid a bit longer but with a solid group it is not a big deal. Im glad it has been finally patched. Should make things interesting again!

The only thing that bothers me is all the shards/energy wasted on Exotic upgrades already.  I'm in an ascendant material shortage and could have used those I put into the exotics.

Thus the reason I have multiple characters. I rarely get to run the Raid for mats, so I rely on the daily story I'm still working on getting my Hunter to 28, but once there I'll have three characters that can run the Level 28 Daily Heroic story mission for ascendant mats every day.

Yeah I could have taken the easy route and just created two more Warlocks and just transfer gear, but I like having one of each class.

If you haven't started new characters, it's worth the effort so you can get more materials.

Been doing the same thing.  I have 2 characters at 29 so I run the daily story at 28, but all I have been getting is shards.  I have an energy shortage as well.   Dammit.

Already have 3 characters, my warlock and hunter can get materials though it's painful on the hunter at 27; titan is in the works but I can't get time to level him up.  Just don't have time to run dailies every day, especially 3 times.  More like every 2 or 3 days and not always on both characters.  I wish I had more time to raid but by the time I get on after reset with the time to invest in a raid, everyone has been through the raid already.  That's why it hurts more that I've used materials on exotics that I could have saved.  It's a slow grind when you don't have the time commitment to this game.

Bad Juju went from wretched to one of the best guns in the game.  Its crazy good in pve now.  The extra super charge means you are almost constantly charged.  You can literally clear entire encounter rooms without ever having to reload.  Still have to reload on the yellows and bosses, but you have to reload with all other weapons.

I used it in pvp just one game last night, and I only got a few kills with it, but it seems to be much better.  There is room for error now.  It now has a higer ROF and clip size over the Stranger's Rifle, so it will replace that for certain.  Also - I was wrong about the Strange Suspect pulse rifle.  It is essientiallly a clone of Bad Seed Down, but it has better stability and "normal" recoil that is much more controllable (BSD has recoil that makes the barrel climb high and to the left - Strange Suspect, Bad Juju and The Strangers Rifle have smaller recoil that just climbs straight up).  So now for pulse rifles I would say:  Bad Juju, Strange Suspect, Strangers Rifle, Suros JPS 55 and then Bad Seed Down.  Red Death looks like it got a buff, but I still havent been able to pick one up.

Looks like I will be finishing the Thorn bounty I just got.

I thought the same about Bad Juju last night when I tried it again. I've had it for awhile but hated it so it just sat in the vault. Love the thing now!

My favorite part of this patch was the inclusion of destination materials in the Daily story. I HATED having to farm all that stuff. "Go protect the universe, and while you're at it grab a few spinmetal leaves so you can level up your equipment".

Now, if they will just add a Map I'll be a happy camper.

The Dark Below releases on December 9th, 2014. This new content will expand the world of Destiny for some players. It will also change the experience of playing Destiny for all. To support the updates that will go live with the expansion, we have made changes to a number of systems that drive the game.

New Legendary Gear

  • Existing Legendary gear on display in the Tower will be replaced
  • New Legendary gear will feature higher Attack and Defense values
  • Legendary items will still require Ascendant Materials for upgrades
  • This new, more powerful gear will be available to all players of Destiny
  • Legendary gear will not be as powerful as new Raid gear or Exotics

New Rank Commendations

  • In addition to Crucible or Vanguard Marks, purchasing new Legendary items will require a Crucible or Vanguard Commendation
  • Commendations are received in Reputation Reward Packages delivered by the Postmaster upon reaching a new Reputation Level

Exotic Talent Changes

  • As part of the December 1st Destiny Update, Exotic Armor and Weapons no longer require Ascendant Materials for upgrades
  • The final power node of all Exotic Gear will require an Exotic Shard
  • This new material is obtained by one of the following means:
  • Dismantling unwanted Exotics
  • Purchased from Xûr for 7 Strange Coins

New Exotic Upgrading

Exotic Gear in The Dark Below will have higher Attack and Defense values than current Exotic Gear. For players and their current caches of Exotics, a path will exist to bring them forward into The Dark Below.

  • Starting December 9th, Xûr will offer players the opportunity to upgrade Exotics to the higher Attack and Defense values
  • Upgrading an Exotic in this way will require an Exotic Shard
    • The upgrade will reset the progression invested into the item
    • Each week, Xûr will possess a selection of upgrades for existing Exotics in his inventory

Crucible (PvP) Changes

  • Expansion I will include two new exclusive competitive playlists
  • New Crucible arenas (Pantheon, Skyshock, and The Cauldron) will be featured in map rotation
  • Playlists available in the Director will change week over week
  • Experiences will alternate between 12 and 6 player engagements
  • Map rotation will alternate between focusing solely on new expansion arenas and including original launch maps in the mix

Heroics and Nightfall (PvE) Changes

  • With the Light level increase to 32, Heroics and Nightfalls will be increased by 2 Light levels to keep up with new content, level increases, and gear items

New Raid: Crota's End

  • The new Raid, Crota's End, will unlock on December 9th
  • Players at Light level 30 can lead a Fireteam immediately upon release
  • The reward system in Crota's End will address some issues reported in the Vault of Glass:
    • Raid loot in Crota's End will drop at a higher rate
    • New Raid gear will contain a wider variety of potential perks
    • Weapons and Gear from Crota's End will not require Ascendant materials for upgrades
    • Radiant Shards and Radiant Energy acquired in the Raid will be used to upgrade new Raid gear
    • Unwanted weapons and gear from Crota's End will dismantle into Radiant materials
    • Primary weapons will only drop in the harder version of Crota's End, released sometime in January

We are hopeful about the changes we're making to the way Raid loot works. We look forward to watching the streamers attempt to become the world first to complete the new Raid. Good luck!

OK I'll say it.  This part sucks.  All that time grinding those exotics completely down the drain.  Ugh.

Yeah, true but at least 95 percent of the upgrading is free play. No materials required.

If you happen on a duplicate, upgrade that one and keep your current version for the big battles.

I agree that re-doing the Exotics is a set back.

Only being able to use one Exotic at a time seems dumb. So far, mine just aren't different enough for the bother.

Wow, and I thought Destiny was already a grind.

In addition to grinding for marks and rep with Vanguard and Crucible, now we have to also grind for commendation. I guess this serves to put everybody on a level playing field when the expansion hits, but it really sucks for those that have busted ass to rank up their factions.

I'm also a bummed about the fact that fully upgraded Exotics will be totally reset if we choose to go about trying to max out the weapon or armor piece. Seems like we should get something for upgrading a fully leveled piece.

Apparently Bungie really wants to slow things down. As if I feel like things are moving slow enough already, this just feels like it will only make the game more of a grind for those people that don't have countless hours to play.

Look at it this way, when Xur comes around and offers you to upgrade your Exotic, you can choose to do so or not, look at the difference and make a decision. But if you see that the upgrade is 25% better, look at it this way,.. it’s like finding a new gun and upgrading it. Some of my guns like the shot gun which I never use, except in the Crucible I have fully upgraded both of them, just by turning in my bounties.

The bad thing with upgrades being tied to Xur is that we have to wait for him each week. Then we have to hope he has the upgrade for the weapon or armor we want because it appears to be random, just like his weekly offerings. If he doesn't have the upgrade we need (or we miss seeing him becuase of "real life"), it's back to the waiting game.

Most people are just peeved at the prospect of having to start over on the equipment that they have already invested a lot of time and materials upgrading. Now all of that seems wasted time and effort. If you can just turn in a non-upgraded exotic and get the same result, then there is no point in upgrading your exotics until you can purchase the upgrade from Xur.

Curious, does this apply to all current exotics even if they are not upgraded?  I have a couple that I haven't touched.  Do you need to upgrade them first before you purchase this option or can you reset them even if they are not upgraded yet?

This is what so many people are bitching about. From what we know, it appears we can just turn in a non-upgraded and get the same result as turning in a fully upgraded - there appears to be no difference. Again, let's hope the weekly update will shed some light on how this is going to work.

Requiring an exotic shard to upgrade an exotic item is already live.  Needed one to upgrade the exotic chest piece for my Warlock.  Dismantled a duplicate chest piece to get it...then read about being able to buy it from Xur and also the exotic trade in program...sigh.

Well that blows.  Makes me regret sharding a second icebreaker now that I could have just upgraded from scratch.  Not to mention the exotic shards I've dumped into weapons in the past week.  And I'm assuming if we decide to reset our armor, the light get's reset so your light level drops until you can the exotic re-leveled.

Read the latest weekly news letter. It should help alleviate some worries.

Quote:

  • Destiny will continue to provide new ways to evolve
  • Your existing items will still be effective in any encounter
  • The Dark Below will contain exclusive options to level up
  • More powerful Exotics will drop, or be sold by Xûr
  • More powerful Legendaries will drop, or be sold by vendors
  • More powerful Raid gear will drop - and more often!
  • More predictable options will upgrade beloved Exotics
  • Exotic upgrades purchased from Xûr replace weaker items
  • Exotic upgrade paths require much less time and material
  • An upgraded Exotic is more powerful right out of the box

Read today that upgrading exotic weapons will cost 7000 glimmer, an exotic shard and the complete reset of the weapon to get ...2 more on the attack rating after all is said and done.So it will actually require 2 exotic shards.O___o

Are they increasing our glimmer stash?  A guy (or girl) can run through 25K pretty quick at 7K per.

Correct. If you turn in a pre-expansion Exotic to get reXurbished, it will reset all the perks but increase the base damage to 302. This means the weapon will start at 302 and go up from there.
