I had become annoyed with the adapter too until I looked up how to use the buttons. The left side of the adapter has the controller button and mic button - pushing those buttons will increase either game or chat respectively while decreasing the other. The + / - buttons on the right actually increase volume overall, but not the balance of game and chat. This is what I didn't realize.
In other words, if you need to increase chat and decrease game sound, then press the chat button. If you need more overall sound, the use the buttons on the right side.
Seems to me like everything I have played on the One so far that there is a lot of inconsistency with game chat functionality. I'll run fine with everyone for hours in game chat and then some one will be added that we can't hear, or I'll drop out and in again and nobody can hear me, or switch between parties and something will be ganked. So we, break up the party, start a new one or do some other time-consuming juggle to get it so everyone can hear each other. I'm not using the adapter so I don't hink that is the issue. But four buttons or five, I feel Free's pain.

This sounds like a NAT issue, that is if someone in the party has moderate or strict NAT, others may not be able to hear them. Just need to ensure you have open NAT before you hook up with your team.
My MS stereo headset continues to have fabric separation issues. No simple solution that I can find.
Ordered the TB XO ONE only to finally find out they were on-ear not over-ear. Returning as soon as they are delivered. I need over-ear because of my hearing aids.
I hope to get the TB XOSEVEN or TB Stealth 500X. Of course the local and online stock (on sale) for the 500X are non-existant.
I just got the TB Stealth 500X for my birthday. So far with what little time I've used them I found that you need to do an update on the XB One controller, some functions were not working properly like the pause funtion and menue buttons for Assassins Creed. Need more time to play with the sound, I noticed they seem to have decent highs and a good bass thump but missing the mid's I have been using the Astro 40's for a long time so it may take a little to get used to the sound difference. But they seem to feel lighter than the Astro's and they also fit over the ear.
I have the XB1 Stereo headset, and its pretty good. But I miss surround sound - especially for movies. Has anyone used the new X500 Stealth wireless ones yet?

Are they available yet? Been waiting to hear how these actually work.

It is out. I saw it in Best Buy the day I posted my question. Was a bit cheaper than I thought it would be at $229. I really miss surround sound. I might pick them up if I can get rid of my others.
Anyone with a 360 that wants a brand-new in the box Turtle Beach XPSevens? My previous pair crapped out right before I bought an XB1. Even though they were a year out of warranty, TB sent me a brand new pair. I havent opened them yet because I havent played anything on the 360 since I bought Destiny. They are really good with really good sound. They even work for an XB1, but I havent used them with it yet.
Looks like they are still $170-230 new (pretty sure they were $280 when I bought them), and $110-125 used. I'll sell the new unopened pair for $100 if you pay for shipping. Here is the link to them on amazon with some reviews at the bottom.
I have the XO 7 headset and use it wired via play and charge kit. That way it won't drain the controller battery. Works well, but does bother my ears a bit over time. Best Buy and Amazon are selling the stealth 500 for $230.
After my initial contact with Turtle Beach, I kept emailing them about their progress on the headset adapter they were developing for their new headsets to see if it would be sold as a separate unit. This new adapter is now available for purchase from Turtle Beach and I recieved mine a couple of days ago.
This adapter will work with the XO4 and XO7 headset and I am happy to say I finally have mic monitoring on my XO7.
Plus, if you already own an XO4 or 7, you can go to this page http://www.turtlebeach.com/coupon-redemption and enter your serial number to get 30% off your order and free shipping. I ordered the basic adapter and got it for about $20.
The basic adapter features various levels of bass boost and mic monitoring. You can have them off or set to low, medium or high. Want more mic monitoring? Bump it up another level.
Will this work with all headsets that have to be plugged into the controller to work or just Turtle Beach headsets?
I don't know Vic. You could try sending an email to their customer service and asking.
I ordered one last Friday and it will be here tomarrow so I'll be able to report back. I sent back my Turtle Beach 500x head set because it was so uncomfortable. I love my Sony Gold headset as it works with my PS4 and works with the Xbox One with the controller headset adapter. In fact I like using the headset adapter as it adjusting value ect is so much easier for me. It just doesn't have mic monitoring with the Microsoft headset adapter and my wife keeps telling me I'm yelling. Hope this fixes this problem as I'll buy another one for each of my consoles.
Just got the XO SEVEN original with MS adapter. Now I can see why some people were have so much trouble without chat monitoring. The sound isolation of this headset is remarkable. I'll have to get the TB adapter when it becomes available in Canada.
BTW, the sound quality is noticably better than the MS Stereo headset. The ear cusions do not squeak on my glasses. The cord does not transmit as much rubbing sound. The sound is 'much' brighter. Stereo separation is greater. The headband is more heavily sprung, so it squeezes my ears/hearing aids a bit. I wouldn't have thought it should cost $100 more than the MS headset but then the fabric is detatching from those. I quess the real test will be time.
What kind of issue are you having?

At my age they all seem to blur together
FYI. My XB1 Stereo headset's cheapness is showing it's flaws.
Fabic covering the foam ear cusions, has started separating from it's underpinnings.
They still function fine but what'll happen after complete separation, is anybodies guess.

I was wondering when they would release that adapter. Hope it will be released in my area soon.
