Our philosophy about rewards/loot continue to evolve as we see how players play and react.
We will continue to improve acquisition stories and frequency (My understanding of the perception is that Crota's End drop rates are much improved vs. Vault of Glass: footnote below), lessen the grind and get players to the fun parts of their arsenal faster.
On CE drop rates vs. VOG:
The Forever 29 meme was a killer for us.
We sat down and talked about the rewards for VoG and the rates vs. CE and ended up with the following:
- increase drop rates globally in CE: we wanted dedicated players to be around 32 or real close by the time Hard mode came out.
- increase the variability of perks that a given piece can roll.
the goal here: players would reach 32 easier than 30, but would have more customization and options to build the perfect set (in terms of stats, perks, weapon affinities)
The part where this didn't work as well as we'd hoped is with the Shard economy. Shards are a are a barrier between you and equipping a sweet new piece of gear.
We want fewer barriers to equipping upgrades. The shard economies erect these barriers between players and the new piece of gear they just got.
We're not intending to adjust the shard economy for this Tier -- we don't want to invalidate player effort (again). But removing the barrier between that new drop you're excited to get and actually being able to equip it as a member of your arsenal are something we will do going forward.
I sharded my last VoG armor piece the other day. Sorta sad about it. There should have been a way to bring the raid armor and weapons forward to the new level, like they did with exotics.
I filled in for a quick run at Atheon the other night. At the end, I got the legendary "Vision of Confluence" scout rifle. It's sweet, but tops out at 300. I'll still use it even though.... and I'll keep my other legendary VoG weapons cuz they are cool, even if they aren't 331. More people would play the VoG if.......
Yeah, I got Atheon's Epilogue after the change. I thought, yay, AE/331! Nope.
Poo
I use the Epilogue for the Thorn bounty/ Hard mode Vault. It still does the best job against oracles during the Atheon encounter because its consistent damage.
And yeah, Fatebringer might be the best overall weapon in the game, even at 300. Totally worth it.
Same here., but I do use the AE in the normal CE Raid. Works pretty good
Another benefit to building up second and third characters: you can give them 1st character hand-me-down VoG weapons once they reach 20.
Remember kiddies, those VOG primaries still hit harder in Nightfalls with the corresponding burn multiplier than a "kinetic" damage 331 weapon.
Thus the reason I'd still love to get a Fatebringer.
I did a test yesterday on the Steppes on Earth, comparing a fully developed 331 B-line Trauma scout rifle (19 round mag) to a fully developed 300 VoC scout rifle (27 round mag) whle shooting the turrets off the dropship that comes on a regular schedule. It took 17 shots for the B-Line and just 12 for the VoC to shoot off the turrets. I did the test 3 times for each rifle. And, in level 30 story missions, the VoC is the better scout against the yellow bars. The solar damage might be part of it. The 300 level VoC is comparable to the 331 MIDA.
I always use the Atheon's Epilog for oracle duty and Minotaur shield stripping while in the VoG. It helps to equip your guardian with armor that has auto rifle enhancements (i.e. reload speed and ammo perks). I also used it to kill the Minotaurs in the top cave on Nexus during weekly heroics that had void burn. One clip kills him each time. Although, it wasn't enough for a Nexus NF.
VOG elemental damage weapons are still the best for weekly & nightfall strikes.
I'm a little pissed that they are taking more grind away. Why even play the fucking game if they are going to just hand us everything??!!! Bungie needs to quit listening to the whiney little bastards who don't even play the game anymore and stick to the core fans who still play it. Destiny is not a game for everyone and they need to keep it that way.
I hope they do fix it so that the raid armor is not replaced with vendor armor, it should only be replaced by new raid armor. Or they need to raise the new level cap higher then 2 points. Make it like 5. If I get a full raid set from Crota it gets me to level 32, if I buy some new vendor armor, make it 34, if I want to hit 36, gotta hit the new raid from HoW. That's how it should be. I personally didn't have an issue with the exotics being reset since they started at higher damage anyway. Having to level the perks back up sucked, but it really doesnt' take that long, it's the last part of the tree that usually takes the longest which is more damage.
That has to be the worst marketing strategy I've ever heard. That'll certainly keep this franchise alive for 10 years. Cater to a niche crowd and forget appealing to a mass demographic that will generate large profits.
Seems to be working pretty damn good for them.
Myself and 3 others who I regularly do Destiny with did not have the Gjallarhorn the day Xur sold the Icebreaker. Now we all have both. Weird... sorta... More than luck?
I didn't have the coins when Xur sold Gjallarhorn...... and I still don't have one :(
Never knew he sold one.
I'm pretty sure he sold it the first time he came to the tower
I think it was the second week. I remember having the coins for it and thinking "Aw, they wouldn't have a beast weapon up now. Also, am I really going to use a rocket launcher all that much?"
