Vault of glass gear getting an upgrade?

so supposedly for house of wolves all that crappy vog armor everyone loves so much that has a light level of 29 is getting an update for house of wolves to light level 42 which will allow you to get to the new max level of 34. making vog armor relevant

also vog weapons will go from 300 damage to 365

the video below shows a guy inspecting a bungie employee, see for yourself

Seems logical for the most part.

I think we have to look at it from the point of view of a newcomer. What would suit their fancy? Immediate access to the newer high level content or force them to rank up successively through each of the pre-existing Raids first (which would be difficult since the bulk of the population has moved on from that).

I don't see why it wouldn't be the case somewhere down the road, but that person is also a Bungie employee.  They probably requested to get the armor they wanted all maxed out.

FWIW, I don't think VoG armor will be upgraded to level 34. I think the Bungie employee in question took a piece of existing armor and modified it (and weapons) to have level 34 stats, most likely so he can test how it performs, how much damage he receives and dishes out against lower level mobs (and possibly HoW mobs if he has a modded system).

Back when I coded some non-graphic games in the past we'd have the tools to modify existing armor and weapons by making changes to the base settings. This didn't impact the actual armor, just the piece we were playing with for testing purposes. My guess is they chose VoG armor so that if they accidentally made a mistake to an older raid piece to change its values, they wouldn't impact the vast majority of end-game users who use the CE pieces.

i personally think it would be awesome to have to viable pieces of raid armor we could wear, based on the specific raids and the bonus damage/perks it would give for the specific raid. right now we have only 2 ways to max out to level 32, iron banner gear with an exotic inserted in there, or crota gear with an exotic inserted in here. or all crota gear or all iron banner gear. So id be pumped to have another option to look different from other titans and the perks too. plus it would make people want to do the vault of glass raid to get raid armor, it would make the raid a viable thing to do instead of a timewaster after you get all the weapons.

i have only been playing destiny since the end of december so i am still enjoying vog and crota and a lot of other stuff.

bdubb does make some good points that seem very logical, im just hoping we get more stuff to do

Its still worthwhile to do the Vault for the two chances at an exotic drop: the Gorgon chest and Atheon.  Also, if you still don't have Fatebringer/Praedyth's Timepiece, those can only be had in the Vault.

I think it would be dumb to upgrade the old armor to the same level of the new armor. What's the point of doing the new raids if all my old gear is just as good? There is none other then for fun which is the only reason I still run the VoG once in a great while or to help someone who has never done it before. Only reason I run CE is to get armor to hit lvl 32. Have 2 of my 3 characters at 32.

but what if they push the level of vault of glass to a higher level like crota?

then it makes wearing vog raid gear when doing hard mode worth it

same as it does for wearing crota raid gear when doing crota hard

or iron banner gear when doing cruicible

Ugh, if Raids get any more difficult, my enjoyment of Destiny may be curtailed.

Strikes seem to be the sweet spot for me.

Once you do the raids a few times and have a good group, they are fun. It's the first about 4 times that you want to rage quit.

At this point finding a consistent group to raid and finding a comfort level with that team can be  a problem.  Most groups have already been formed for CE and raiding VOG has definitely diminished.  Free agents can get to together but a raid team needs some special talents (like sword bearer in CE) and sometimes that is hard to find. Believe me I know this first hand.  Because of family issues my focus was diverted way from Destiny right when VOG raiding began and again when CE began.  By the time I could refocus, raiding groups were already formed and each member of each group had already gained enough experience to cement a particular role in the group and back up others.  As a "free agent" I found it hard to (1) just get into a raid and (2) once in gain enough experience in primary roles (relic bearer, sword bearer, etc.) and I belong to an effing clan that plays mostly Destiny!

the group i run with is still kind of feeling out the raids, we are all new to it. our thing is making sure everyone gets a chance to do everything. right now we have 3 guys that can rock the sword on ce, on vog almost everyone can do the relic. it can be painful at times till people get it down, but its for the benefit of the team really.

That is a great way to approach the raids with a team.  Makes it easier when a substitute is needed on a given night and is great practice for HM which requires confidence in each role as well as the appropriate level and set up for each character.  On a personal note, I feel comfortable in both raids with everything but relic/Croata sword swinging, and have had such a hard time getting regularly into CE raids (until recently) that I learned to solo my Hunter and Titan thru the first bridge.
