You'd be surprised how often people overlook the most obvious and smiple things. More often than not, if they would just calm down and start from the beginning they'd be alright.
Hell, I got paged overnight because someones computer was not working. I called the end user and asked a few questions. She couldn't answer because she was not at the PC, so I asked her to call me back when she gets to it. She replied that she couldn't, it was dark down there. Turns out there was a power outage in that area of the building. Pure win.
