Using The 2Old4Forza Sub-Forums.

For anyone who hasn't noticed. We now have 2 sub-forums here. Up until now people were unhappy that we had too many stickied threads. WE had so much important info, that it almost completely dominated the 1st page of our old forums.

The original plan was to have 5-6 sub-forums with each one being dedicated to a different aspect of Forzas game focus (i.e. tuning, painting, race instruction, etc. After discussion with doodi, we decided to pare it down a bit becuse we felt too many sub-forums would detract from the main forum as well as 2o2p as a whole.

With that being said, we now have 2 sub-forums here in our group forum. They can be found at the top of our regular group forum here.

The "Racing Events & Series Info" forum is obviously for posting up event & series info. Originally I'd asked that event or series threads be built there whit all the series/event info & a link to a discussion thread in the regular forums. However after seeing it in practice, I think from now on, I'm going to just have one event info & discussion thread in the sub-forum. Instead of making people jump from thread to thread between forums.  As a series or event comes to a close, it's thread in the sub-forum will be locked so active series & events will stay at the top of the forum.

The 2nd sub-forum is the "Tuning, painting, & Racecraft" forum. Once again, this one is pretty self explanatory. This is where you want to go to find iformation on all of those subjects. Tuning groups should list their catalogs here. Racing instructors can post any info they'd like, painters can use it to share designs, logos, ask for help. Whatever.

When you create a new thread, you will see a drop down menu to select which forum you want to post to. Please be sure to think before you post & place your threads in the proper forum.

I will be moving any threads that I feel are in the wrong place from now on.

If you have thoughts or concerns, feel free to post here if you can keep your discussion civil & rational. The only goal here is to make everything we have to offer as easily accessible as possible for eveyone.

Cotter,

I think the only way people are going to adopt your vision is to lock down ALL the discussion threads with a generic comment advising people to visit the sub-forum for ongoing discussions?

I don't think there is to be but one thread...

He's talking about locking the existing discussion thread & redirecting people to the series thread in the sub-forum.

BTW

Yes the new plan is to just keep the seies discussion included in the series thread in the sub-forum. AS for people worrying about stuff getting buried, it shouldn't. The old series/event thread will be locked when they end. Thus making them drop to the bottom of the forum que. All the active stuff will stay at the front of the forum while older stuff will be further back & still avilable incase someone needs to go back for reference or whatever.

Something else folks need to keep in mind. If there's a thread you feel is important to you, but not stickied.....Bookmark that thread. Then you can clcik the "my account" button at the top of the page. From there you'll see a tab to track anything you have bookmarked on the site. You can always un-bookmark it if you want to stop following it.

Without a thing showing the amount of views a thread has had you cannot know if these threads are being viewed or not, I tend to have a look at all posts but if I have nothing to say (yeah okay thats not often) I just lurk. I suspect a lot of folk are doing the same.

I never lurk, having nothing to say never slowed me down...hey wait!

All Cotter is tyrying to do is use some of the organization features we now have available with version 3. Specifically, we wanted separate sub-forums for different categories so the main page is not clutterd with everything. During our first few weeks of growing pains we adopted an official event/series sub forum and asked everyone to make an official thread under this sub-forum and a corresponding discussion thread in the main forum. End result is everyone uses the main discussion thread and ultimately we have two threads for the same subject so the intent is to go back and use the event/series sub-forums for eveything about the event/series...official rules and ongoing discussions. Ciotter will correct me if Parcells interpretation is incorrect.

All Parcells is trying to do is to assist Cotter in getting everyone on board with this change ASAP so people actually see that I'm hosting an Opel Open event this Friday which is now in the event/series sub-forum but getting little attention.  Parcells no want to race alone on Friday sad

Yes that is as may be, but where is the discussion thread Parrcells? The event list was supposed to be just that, a list of current series with all the basic info. Added to that there was supposed to be a link to the dicussion thread on the main thread list...That kept the info about the event clear and easy to find and left a live thread in the main forum for ongoing stuff...

I think Cotter changed his mind and went back to 1 thread in the sub forum. As to being clear, the OP should always be maintained and kept current. Then again, I might be delusional, and I'd never want to put words in Cotter's mouth

Yes, I'm just saying the old way left new arrivals (as I was) bemused and not sure how to find info, okay now I can find it in about four different places but it takes time to understand how it all works. I was also vocal so got help, many others are not so forward. Having a clear list at the top of the page saying Event List...or whatever it says, is easy to find. The link to the discussion thread makes that easy to find...Just saying.

Sigh...I guess you'd better unlock my event info then, still think this is a shame, but I seem to be in a minority of one among those that have commented so...so be it.

I didn't know we had that option. I see a Bookmarks link upper right, but no tab...maybe because I don't have any yet?

So are we going to lock all Discussion topics on the main page and just have the sub forum for all events info ect?

Best way I think as I dont think anyone is going in the sub fourm really and will really tidy up this place. (especially if knight sits down)

cheeky

Don't lock them, merge the discussion threads into the series threads. Job done! Nice and tidy and continuity maintained.

Unless you want to copy & paste every post in the discussion forum to the series thread, then it's easier to just lock the discussion thread & include a link in it to redirect people to the series thread for further discussion. There's no way to merge threads.

There aren't that many events with seperate discussion yet, so as those series end, they'll go away.

No way to merge? are you sure...that has been a function open to mods and admin on forums for ever...

Edit...If that is the case just delete my thread in the event list and move the one from the main forum. I can rename it.

Edit 2...Please smiley

I'm familiar with the merge function, but haven't been able to find how to do it yet if it is possible here.

BTW Knight, Just gave you admin privelages. Check to see if it's working. If it is, you'll see the option to edit everyone's posts, not just your own. That's the easiest way to tell.

Thanks for the heads up church. I wasn't sure if admin privelages were working yet for those of you who are admins now. Permissions were totally whacked out upon the site's launch. Doodi had to go in & set me up manually. I'm guessing that he's probably still working on his end. I'll msg him & see if I can find out what's up.

I think you'll get an automaticpm. it's showing as having gone through on the members list. However, it may be useles for anything other than being "special" at the moment.

I'm the only person who's privelages are working it looks like.
