Got another meet under my belt. And at first glance I thought about hanging it all up. It went from bad to worse. My first event was the 100 free. I wasn't expecting world records (although they would have been nice). But I did want to at least get close to my state 2011 time of 59. With long yards and no rest that is where you'd like to be. I was short on my first turn barely touching the end. Long on the 50 turn totally slamming both my heels on the top of the touchpads/gutters. And fell apart after that (according to my standards). Did a 1:01.00. Was so sore (feet)that I passed on my 100 Breaststroke.
Went into the water on the 100 backstroke just wanting to swim a strong relaxed race. 1St 50 was good but at the 50 turn I was too far to the left/long and when I flipped to turn I not only slammed my heels again I must have caught the corner of the touchpad and cut my left ankle/heel almost down to the tendon. I thought I had just banged it (again) and finished the race (and won it). I limped out of the pool and made my way back to my stuff then noticed I was bleeding all over the deck. Long story short. Wrapped it up and drove the 45 mins to my hospital where I spent SB Sunday in the ER until 8 pm. With 12 stitches to remind me how human I am. Still limping as I type this. Stitches come out on 2/14/2013. I'll get back in the water soon.
After reflecting some, I realize that even with the screw ups in the 100 free I was only 2 seconds off my state time. And with the slice up job I did in the 100 backstroke just another 2 seconds off the 100 back time from state also. A learning experience to be sure. And a lesson to remember that before I make any rash decisions that I should wait and see the whole picture. This is just a 2x4 to the head moment. One that I will try not to repeat. I still think a 55 could be possible in the free as long as I don't spaz out. 1:03-1:05 in the back?
Registration completed. Doing the 7 events.
Big up man, I admire your resolve. Go get them!
Good luck mate.
My boy's down at the high school finishing up his lifeguard training for a position at the pool this summer...trying to get him to apply at the "country club" where all the "affluent" girls swim...
Warn him that many of the girls at the CC will think that their S**t doesn't stink. At that age they are concerned with what kind of car the boys drive. And not the ones in FM4. The CC boys are worse. They think they are hot S**t driving around in Daddy's car.
I wish him a fun summer.
He passed, 100% on the written is apparently a first, or so he says...with a head that big, he has to float, right?
Maybe he'll get lucky and rescue one of the hot gals and get to do chest compressions or mouth to mouth.
Doing some church work for the upcoming Easter season and I pull a muscle in my lower right back. It happens I guess.
Yeah, I "helped" a friend of my wifes move last Sunday...
Psch Sheet (Times) sent out today for all entered. A ton of swimmers.

Let the games begin.
Represent!
Thinking about taking up a collection for a 2Old4Forza Speedo for ya, although that's a lotta advertising on a speedo...(?)
I'm just worried about how the O in 2O4F would look on the back of my suit. Could be embarassing.
State Meet over. Had a blast. But computer crashed and have to get it fixed. Give me some time to get back up and running. About 2 weeks until it gets back from Best Buy. Under warranty. Then will post results.

Final results in main thread.
Team photo in 1st post.
Some outstanding work there :)
Thanks.
Well done, you were doing some serious work there sir!
What's your next goal, Tri Chicago?
Doing the "Swim a Marathon" offering from the ILMSA this summer. Record your yards and convert them to miles and you get either a T-shirt or certificate.
Then will try to see how close to some Top Ten Times Nationwide I can get to for the 5/2012 to 5/2013 year. Best finish in 2012 was 23rd fastest time in the 50 yd Backstroke out of 230 swimmers. Two others were in the top 30.
very well done mate!
Next meet info at top of post #1.
Kids are back in the pool, team practice has commenced, and I now have two kids on the team!
And one boy has gained a girlfriend from one of the new girls on the team!
Of course the next goal, as I'm sure yours might be, is STATE!!! (Good luck!)
Fortunately, my goal to make Masters State is much easier than your kids. They have to qualify by being the best in their area I would think. In my State of IL the HS kids either have to make the qualifing time for that event or win the event. For us old folks anyone can go to the State meet. You then are seeded according to your entered time then you are placed according to your time you swim at the meet in your age group. I am fortunate in the fact that I have a background, ie., HS experience and can compete try to against the other swimmers in my age group who were also HS, college or other swimmers. Nobody is allowed to use anything other than googles and a suit. Steering wheels and driving aids are not allowed. j/k
What HS team/city/state are they on? If you don't want it public then just pm me. I'd like to check online from time to time.
Elizabethton, TN
Thanks. I'll just google the school and be on the lookout for kids with the last name of "oldschoolsmart", right?
Hah! Donald and Anthony...
Paperwork for the meet to be sent in this week.
I am going to try the 100 back, 100IM and the 50 back. That should leave me about 30-60 mins in between events. As this is the only SCM meet in IL this year I'm focusing on it like the State Meet last April. I'll taper and body shave to hopefully get some good times. My goal is to see how I compare to the National rankings for these events. I have a list of where everyone finished for the 2011 year. 2012 SCM season ends 12/31/2012. In order for your times to count they have to be done in a pool that has been measured and sanctioned for that distance. Which this pool has. It's not like you can just get a time at practice and submit it. You need all the extras. Sanction, touchpads, backup buttons, 2 stopwatches per lane (3 if you are attempting a state/national record).
Did a modified workout that I got from the latest Splash magazine. The workout was 20 x 100's with the following. 1St 25 Fly, 2nd 25 free with only one breath, 3rd 25 was easy backstroke and the last 25 was underwater body dolphin/fly kick with no breath. I did 15 100's with 2 breaths on the 2nd 25 and one breath on the 4th 25. I'm not young like those kids. And 45 secs rest between 100's. They take only 15-30 secs. The theory is that you get used to the oxygen deprivation so in a race you can say to yourself “I've done it in practice so I can do it now”. We shall see soon enough.
Paperwork submitted.
Having trouble keeping weight on one of my boys. He was down to 136, now back up to 142. And it's not like he doesn't eat, but he's doing two practices a day.
Congrats on getting your paperwork in! That's the hard part right?
