Glitch resulting in the resetting of rank?
Hey folks.
So I tried playing Gears 3 last night and it kept freezing me about 5 times. When I finally was able to get past the "start" menu, I was thrown into the lobby at a 48 rank with the lost of quite a few of my ribbons, Onyx medals, character and weapon skins, and just overall stats.
:( :( Was just wondering if you guys have heard any more about this? A friend of mine has told me that this has been going around a lot and he's afraid to play Gears 3 again simply because of losing his 3298749328 Onyx medals.
I'm upset over this but sigh... What can I do?
Guess I'll try looking for folks to grind Onyx medals with....but fudge! WTF? My stuff was never reset in Gears 2 and now this, when the stakes are even higher!? WTF?! :(
Rank resetting in Gears 3 has been around since launch. It boils down to your PlayerData save file on your storage device gets corrupted. So when you restart the game it overwrites your 'server copy' with corrupt crap so you get reset .
Usually though it rests you back to nothing, no medals, ribbons, rank, it's as if you put the game in for the first time. I'm not sure how you got reset to an earlier rank... that's a new one to me.
I can't remember the exact scenario that happened to me. But the jist of it was I was idle boosting while I was away on vacation. Then when I came home, something I did by changing the gamesave location or something along those lines reverted me back to 'friday's' version of my playerdata. So I lost all the medal cred I had earned over the weekend idle boosting in a private match.
There are ways to protect yourself from progression loss. What you do is write your player data file onto a secondary storage device (cloud or usb assuming your HDD is primary). If you hve a player data there already , delete it first. Then fire up the game, pick this new location were there is no player data file and you'll download a server copy there. Then play a round of warzone, yo udon't need to finish the game, just start it and exit out. Now you have a viable backup copy of your progression in case it corrupts on your primary location. You hav eto keep updating it though by deleting the secondary player data, re-download the server copy and play a round. If you do that weekly or daily is all dependant on your tolerance for loss.
Ah. Sigh. Thank you for that. :/ It may be too late for that though as it reverted me back already and I can't get it back unless I play like mad again. BOO! But yeah, it is weird that it didn't reset me back to 1 and just at the halfway point of where I was. I always make sure that game data saves whenever I finish matches before switching over to the dashboard and then turning off Xbox. That's what I usually do instead of just turning it off from the game menu.
I'll try the back up data though for future references...it's just ah... All those medals and ribbons!!! :/ I was SO CLOSE to getting Onyx for playing as a female character too! I wanted to switch it already to my naked shirt Grenadier and Dom :/

Ah thanks. It didn't completely reset to 1 so that's good. Reset down to 48 which was so weird. I don't know what's up with that. I was able to get some campaign medals back once I did the first part of the campaign on arcade mode on Insane. I figured if I just start doing that again, I'll get all my stats back but either way, the reset isn't doing me too bad... My K/D and Win/Loss ratios aren't all too messed up anymore haha
Just annoyed about my Onyx medals :/
If I lost all my onyx medals (7 left to get), there's no way I'd accept that. I'd just step over the line and glitch/hack my Ser3.0 at that point for my aggrivation.
Wow. Just 7 left?! Which seven?! I didn't have that many, just about 20ish and most are pretty easy to get. Just.... Ah....

Sawed off (2200 of 6000)
Hammerburst (2000 of 6000)
Assists (2600 of 3000)
Active Reloads (19,000 of 25,000)
First bloods (1700 of 3000)
By the end of the weekend i'll have finished Sawed off, hammerburst and assists for sure. Active reloads is a maybe. The First Blood one is my nemesis though, that thing is just dragging along at a snails pace. It'll probably be my last one.
I'm going to try my hardest to wrap this all up by Monday night because Diablo 3 is gonna suck me in for a while.
Loki, doing 2 consoles is a good way to kill farm. I think you'll end up with 38 kills per round of TDM, your rounds will be slightly longer though probably around 6 minutes a round becuase you're killing in 3's instead of 5's. But it's still faster than chasing bots around.
