And yes, I know there is a large map pack coming, but you are missing the point. The core fan base (true BF fans as you call them) are turned off on many CoD-like (read: CQC) things put in BF3. Go read the BF forums on the Battle log..... you'll see.
Have you played any of the other games in the BF series? BFBC 1&2? BF2? BF1943? BF3 is straying away from what made BF, BF. Do you not get that or do you just like tellimg me to calm down?
Anyway, this discussion is going in circles. So I say good day sir.
Yes, I like telling people to calm down, it's a hobby. :) And yes I played bfbc1 and 2. And I play BF3. I'm familiar with the game. I don't think the conversation is going in cicrles. I just think people should try the dlc before passing judgment.
Is Dice going after COD fans? Absolutely. If I ran Dice that fanbase would be my target. The good thing is that is just DLC. If it doesn't interest you, you don't have to buy it
Y. I just think people should try the dlc before passing judgment.
See, I don't need to try the DLC to know I won't like it. I don't care for TDM. I already don't like some of the smaller, spawn locking, choke-point filled maps in the core rotation (I'm looking at you Metro).
Conquest on those even smaller maps is going to be nothing but shotguns, frag rounds, and RPGs.
The only thing that might tempt me to get it is the new guns and assignments... but even those probably won't be enough
I am a true BF fan .. I have played BF2 , BBC, and BBC2! Yes ,DICE is steering away from what HC BF fans are used to , but its only a few maps! Some wars actually happen in urban areas you know! I know some who would like to sit in a chopper or tank for the entire match, but that by itself does not WIN matches! This is discussion will never go anywhere but in circles..Play whatever maps you like! CQ or Large vehicle maps and lets keep it civil and leave it at that!! But on that note, I evolve with the game because I am a true BF fan.Its all about winning and having fun while doing it!

Agreed, it's always nice to change things up a bit, keeps it fresh.
One thing I noticed from the 2nd video is that sure, it's a smaller map, but that just means they REALLY amped up the destruction. What I love about BF is shit exploding all around me, and never having a place to sit where you are guaranteed safety. With all those walls, windows, and doors exploding all over it'll be frantic as hell. And I will most likely have a huge grin on my face while it happens

It looks good to me, but then again I haven't been gaming for the last 20+ years. It's still pretty fresh to me. *shrugs shoulders...*
I'm not sure how I feel about the high rise map yet, but this one looks like it'll be nearly impossible to gain entrance to the fortress since (it looks like) one team starts with the high ground.
New trailer is awesome. Just what I like to see, lots of destruction. A good team/squad could definitely hold the key parts. And I bet TDM is crazy. Looking forward to it.

That trailer is bad ass. I can't wait until that comes out. Are they CODing BF3, sure. Do I care, no. Just watch the video, look at the carnage. It'll be insane.
I wanted to see what "Conquest Domination" was because this trailer was the first time I've heard of it. And this is what I found:
At its core, Conquest Domination combines the breakneck momentum of team deathmatch with the franchise’s signature capture-able control points. As Close Quarters veers heavily from Battlefield’s pedigree of far-flung warzones and vehicle combat, respawn points consequently pepper the map in a randomized pattern. (Think Call of Duty with more Russian noises.) More control points waving your team’s flag means more deployment spots, so bank on intense flareups concentrating around these precious objectives.
I don't use the word hate, but I hate shotguns in FPS games. The rest of the article confirms my apprehension of the type of byproduct that gets produced when these elements are mixed with the anonymous public.
Of course, I'm still going to get it. And a mute button.
They look to be COD-sized. I'm sure its no coincidence that this DLC is coming at about the time of year that interest in the current COD title starts to fall off.
BF3 has horrible spawn points in closed maps like Bazaar.
Take for an example yesterday playing Bazaar Conquest. Opposing team had two players just waiting for spawners at B in the back room. They got like 20 kills of people just trying to spawn.
Also Conquest on Dev's Peak. I have seen opposing players set claymores in front of spawn points. You spawn and blowup.

That and, don't forget that you consistently (always?) spawn faceing a wall, unless you spawn on a squad mate. This is the worst spawn feature I have seen in my short time of gaming.
Respawning in this close quarters map could be even more... "interesting" than usual.
I think the Close Quarters DLC looks great. I have been playing BF games since 1943(1st ever) on PC and have owned every game since. A little change here and there will keep the game fresh and if you don't like it you can pass on it. The destruction alone has me interested. As a COD player also, personally it is nice to see some DLC that actually brings something new to the game and not just rehashes of old maps with no changes in play style. I do want the Armor DLC more than CQ as that is what BF is all about, but to me having options to play different ways in one game is what I am always looking forward to in DLC.

I really hope EA does not price these expansions at $15 a pop as that is a certain ripoff if there is only 1 size maps and 2 or 3 game modes.
I understand you can't do full Conquest type maps on Close Quarters maps but even vanilla maps like Metro, Canals, and Grand Bazaar scaled up and down to allow for CQ, Rush and TDM.
Same with Armored Kill if they only have the Huge size maps that don't scale down.
It's Like Dice/EA said, oh, we don't have enough programmers or DLC ready so instead of 3 real map packs, lets just take 1 map pack and split it up into 3 DLCs and make more money!
I guess I will take a wait and see approach in June unless EA announces a decently low price.
I may be in the minority but I will also take a good look at getting MOH 2012 and Black Ops 2.
MOH 2010 was shitty multiplayer but the SP was very good despite some bugs. I've also been very partial to Treyarch Games so while I skipped MW3, I will probably get BO 2.
Treyarchs Word at War is stil my favorite WW2 fps despite MP being horribly hacked.

I'm sorry but I don't get what you mean by saying they are taking 1 map pack and splitting it into 3 DLC's. There are 4 maps per pack, with support for TDM, Conquest, and the new Conquest Domination in this first pack. The Conquest Dom being something new to make the loss of Rush on a small map not hurt as much.
But you are saying they should give us all 12 maps from the 3 packs and make it 1 DLC? If anything, I'm just happy that they are giving us 4 NEW maps, plus 10 new weapons (in this pack, unsure what the other 2 DLC will have). Normally it's just 3 new maps plus 1 or 2 remakes from previous titles.
If they are $10 each, great! If they are $15, oh well, I'll just skip out on a few $1 menu cheeseburgers and buy it anyway, lol. That's still only $3.75 per map (less than a gallon of gas in some places). And considering the sheer amount of hours in MP fun I'll get out of them, the cost is small, but the value is quite large. We need to stop being spoiled just because we were early gamers and were there when things used to be cheaper. Things change, and so must we.
I see your point of view but free market rules should apply.
If you think it's a bargain at $15 - spend your $15 and enjoy. If others think it's a ripoff at $15, then they should be fine to skip it.
I look at it as a slippery slope that EA/Dice is already sliding down.
There was even once a time when Game DLC was free!
Then you had to pay a bit, but you usually got a lot of content and added value.
Then Activision starts doing their SOS (Same Old Shit) content value decline with Tony Hawk and now Call Of Duty.
DLC content starts become mandatory paid and slowly declining in what you get.
Like Activision COD - if gamers are willing to pay for watered-down recycled crap - then there is No incentive for Publishers and Studios to create good value.
I wouldn't be surprised if in the future, console gamers have to pay $$ to unlock EACH weapon they want to use like some PC games do!
all I'm saying is I want to check out the merchandise before shelling out $15 to play Close Quarters DLC COD on 4 COD size maps = IMHO.
If they are really great, maybe I'd be willing to pay $20 for the DLC maps. But if it's just run and gun, bad spawn COD on destructable terrain maps.
then, I'll vote NO with my wallet.
Sidenote:
I will tell you that the trend of Pay-only DLC as a cash cow is one of the reasons why the big Publishers are not releasing mod tools and leaving their fan community in the dark.
It used to be that Game Studios - Dice included - were more tight with their fans and even encouraged Fan-made content like Free maps, Free game modes, Free Mods, etc - at least on the PC side.
Bungie even had good mod tools on the Halo console side.
Now that DLC is turned into a money stream instead, I predict you will be seeing more and more cost for less and less value.
Been playing the Battlefield games for about 10 years now. I love the large scale stuff, but this expansion has me pretty excited. Sure, it's not traditional BF style gameplay, but a lot of major BF games have major changes to them. BF2 introduced the Commander and squads, BF2142 focused on unlocks and customizable loadouts, Bad Company games got rid of the Commander introduced destructable environements, and BF3 finally nailed infantry combat.
You could just have easily argued that BF was turning into COD when they introduced "infantry only" mode in BF2 all those years ago.
Oh darn, I will not get to play BF3 with you Taco? I'm so saddened.
Hey, I threw a smiley in there lol

this discussion went in circles, much like what happens in the battlelog console forums. It's a crying shame that they're not better moderated.

No wonder you are defending this monstrousity.
HERETIC!

Any info about the size of the maps? Is it in the Bazaar range or smaller?
Smaller
