Yes! This year I am running only 1 class, 8th scale Truggy. I have but have not built a Kyosho STRR Evo. I am going to run a OS Speed .21 V-Spec II Worlds in it.

I need to find some pics and vids. Preferably 1 of the 20' high 70' long downhill tripple in Bloomfield.

Myself and a few friends are getting into this a bit. Well, for me its 'a bit' for them its a shit load. I just wanted to test the water really, so I got a cheaper model from nitrorcx.com. a 1/10th scale monster truck. its fun, but every time I take it out something breaks. I'm not really bummed about it, becuase my friends break theirs every time also, but they paid 400-700 while I paid 170. Only difference is I have to order parts online.

Its fun to do, but I just dont have to spare cash right now to do it. I don't know how much longer I will.

Breaking things is the fun part.

The losi is almost new with replaced parts, including the motor.

I've noticed though that the electric short course trucks take a helluva lot more beatings before they break.

I've actually wanted a sc truck since I bought the losi, but, the traxxas and the 1/8 buggy both fell into my lap and I ended up sinking money into those instead of saving $.

Holy shit Locgaw that ramp sounds awesome and dangerous both.

Dig up the vid if you can I'd like to see that.

Also post a pic of your truggy if you can, I'd like to compare it to my buggy and see the differences. The .21 is the same size engine that I'm supposed to run in my buggy and I'm curious.

*edit oops the .21 goes in the evo. Post a pick of the truggy anyway if you don't mind. I've been looking at the Hyper TT since it's been on sale and I'm still curious.

The .21 will fit in your buggy. I found some pics but I could not find the vid of that 76' long jump.

It is kinda fun repairing the trucks. but Its also a bit of a pain when its something I wasnt expecting to replace. I have 8 shocks on my truck and I have to replace 3 of them becuase the shaft bent and its binding. I can bend it back, but that lasts only for so long since it is weakened.

And it's not really fun when it breaks and I am out a week on the repair. I would spend the 400 on a new truck, but I dont have that much to spend.........especially since my cable box shorted out my HDMI inputs on my TV. Looks like I have to get a new TV.

That is a awesome track. It looks really well maintained and looks like the drainage is excellent too.

Is that someone's backyard, club, or lhs track?

There are 2 tracks. The one with the long downhill tripple is in Bloomfield, NY. It is Bloomfield Nitro Radio Control Club. We did not race last year and I hope we do this year. The track is sick fast with crazy jumps and big lanes.

The other is Makin Traxx. It is a smaller track. The owner necked it down and added 3 turns to spite me because I was clearing his rythem section. It never sat right with me.

Still though, the guy runs a good track. The facility is great and he puts on a good time.

http://www.makintraxxrc.com/

Both are groomed and both are technically in peoples back yards. There is no hand counting so people buy private transponders.

I have seen only one Hyper TT. They put it up against 4x4 Short Course trucks. It did not fare well. Too light duty in my opinion to survive big jumps from the speed it is capable of.

8th scale is getting more affordable these days. I think that 4X4 short course though gives you the best bang for your buck. Racing 8th scale rigs cost more than 5th scale gas rigs though so that is something to think about.

My first was a HPI Nitro MT.  Loved it.  This past summer I picked up the Savage 4.6 SS.  Sweet truck, silly fast.  I'm in the process of upgrading with the purple aluminum components.  Hopefully this summer I get to take it out and really beat the shit out of it.

Also, how does everyone feel about the RTR movement?  I realize it's cool because it gets people into the hobby but, I personally love assembling them from kits.  I think it's crucial to understanding how to fix it when it inevitably breaks.

Anyone on Long Island?

@Gman... Holy smokes that Revo looks BEEFY! I sold my Revo last year. It won the points series 4 years ago with it. You got RPM front arms for it yet?

@ Malinko... I will get some pics of my stuff. I have:

Losi 8T 2.0 E Conversion. I gutted the electrics though. Needed the cash to buy my Kyosho. Still a slick looking truck and it will sell when I bring it up to the track this year. 8th scale electric is brutally expensive and I dont recomend trying it.

Kyosho STRR Evo. It is not built and the engine is not built yet but I will post up anywho.

Associated SC8- Bully Dog Edition. It's an 8th scale short course truck. I am running a O'Donnell .21SS in it. This is my beater truck. I can't race it in the corr clases. The track owner made me run with 8th Scale buggy. I tried to complain some but he said I was going to win anyways. I figured I did not have a leg to stand on at that point so I let it go.

O'Donnell Z-O1B- It is the first gen one. Last time I buy a car from a small OEM. They released 3 different cars in 3 years before they stopped supporting it. Nobody will buy it off me because the thing breaks like glass. Shame too, it was one of the best handling cars I ever owned.

@Rascal... Some of the new RTR cars are competitive right out of the box. Traxxas has really done a great job at making some high quality products that are tough. Losi RTR 8 and 8T cars are actually decent right off. With more companies like Mugen building factory tuned & built cars, it is leveling the playing field against guys like me that can do a great build on a kit. I honestly fear the day that Xray has a factory built, factory tuned 8th scale buggy/truggy with their unparralled manual and Hudy tunning book that explains how to custom tune suspension/alignment an 8th scale. I think that that even if the OEMs arn't putting engines and tires with the pre-built truck, it is helping people make the jump to a more complicated 4wd model.

Oh, i have no doubt that the RTRs that are coming out are high quality.  I just feel like half the fun is building it yourself.

I have managed to procure a 2wd Traxxas Slash with a sidewinder esc and a Tacon brushless.

I don't have it in hand, yet. Should get it by the end of the week.

I need to buy batteries and a charger next. Our local rc supply guy has some sky lipo's and a venom charger I'll probably end up getting.

Pics to come, from what i understand it looks kind of rough but that's how I like them.

Buy your batteries online. The mark up for batteries is crazy. I found mine on nitrorcx.com for a shit ton cheaper then at the local rc shop.

Yup. It only costs the Chinese pennies to make lipo batteries.

Doesn't really bother me who makes them. I need it to be an affordable hobby.

That's what I meant! Racing 8th scale electric is expensive. The truck itself is big and heavy. The motor has a high current demand. Batteries dont last for crap...

So, the esc on the slash turns out to be fried. Yay. Doesn't matter, I still got it. Knock $60 off the price and I'm good to go.

Sadly the esc I want/have/had (Sidewinder SCT) is out of stock everywhere until May 5 (hopefully).

On the plus side I have 2 tacon motors for it now, plus a 3rd smaller sized brushless motor, maybe for a 1/16 scale.

I run a Associated SC10 and it's a blast.  It's got all the factory team upgrades, tekin RS ESC and redline 17.5.  I have the hotwire kit and it's insane how much power you can make with that motor...it's almost like a 10.5 lol.   I love running it and I was actually just rebuilding my shocks and ball diff to race this weekend.  I pulled my lipos out and they are both a little puffy.  I"m going to have someone that knows a little more about batteries to tell me what the deal is.  I balanced them everytime I charged them, but they have been sitting for almost a year now.

Did you peak charge them before you stored them?

50-75 percent is where they tell you to store them. From my experience, they fail all the time for all kinds of reasons.

You guys and your ground vehicles.  I am going to totally thread jack here.  I am getting one of these.  Yes, that is a camera on the plane and screen on the controller.

I like to watch planes, but considering how often I crash the cars I don't even want to think how much $ flying a plane would cost me.

Planes are cake these days.  That plane, because it is for FPV beginners (first person view), has stabilization in it.  Many trainer planes have stabilization.  Plus if you get a EPP or EPO foam plane they are almost indestructible.  Most likely you will destroy the plastic prop before you destroy the plane.

If you get into FPV the high end rigs have on screen displays (like the HUD of an F16) - with a gps if you get too far or out of range it will show up on the screen..  Some OSDs have return to home - so if you lose signal or get too far the plane will automatically fly itself back to you.

If I was new to flying planes right now I would look at this:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__13083__Mini_Swift_R_C_EPO_Glider_Plug_n_Fly_w_crash_kit_DE_Warehouse_.html

That folding prop means ther eis some give so less likely to break.  That would be a very durable plane.

If you want something a little big bigger, popular, and stabil then this (even includes a basic transmitter):

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__16542__Hobbyking_Bixler_EPO_1400mm_RTF_Mode_2_Throttle_Left_Radio_.html

If you notice the plane I am getting and those planes have the same body style.  That style is very stabil.  with keeping the prop on top of the plane you ar eless likely to brake it in case of a crash.  These are easy going, easy flying planes.  you will actually see FPV accessories for the Bixler.  These planes are perfect for that because otherwise you would get disorientated by quick movements of more acrobatic planes.

At some point I am going to get this.  I love F4Us.  This one has a lot of detail.

Great.  Poonga is training to be one of those unmaned drone operators...

Another thread jack - what happened to that other forum. Poonga?

Although I race the high end on-road cars, I've always had fun running those stock Slashes.  My group in IL always had a couple heats of both 2-wheel and 4x4.  I've still got a killer set-up for the Slash on my HD somewhere.

Xevias, speak of the devil....

I was on the phone with a guy yesterday, that, for a moment, I thought could be you (it wasn't btw, I asked ;)).

I was reading another forum and saw something about cheap and good brushless esc's from Brushlesshobbies.com

When I checked their site I noticed that they used a p.o. box out of Oklahoma.

I was a bit apprehensive. But because the stuff for sale was such a good price I called their contact number and talked to this very interesting man named Stan.

Stan is a 60 yr old electrical engineer whom travels back and forth to Asia for the construction company he works for. He is also a avid RC hobbyist.

He ended up designing, and commissioned a factory in Asia, to make the esc's. He has them mass shipped to the us along with a few other super cheap items

After jabbering with Stan for 20 minutes I bought a 120a esc ($57), 2 4000mah 20c lipos ($15ea.) and a lipo charger/power supply($21/$11).

Everything was shipped this morning, so by Monday I should be in action.

I watch their reviews sometimes.  I don't like their theatrics but I like their reviews.  I cannot wait for my Spyhawk to show up.
