Max Payne Multiplayer Vid 2

The MP is this game is actually looking pretty decent.  What's the community thinking on MP3 ?   I've had it preordered for a while but am on the fence about actually picking it up.  I haven't played any of the past Max games so i'd mostly be buying it for the multi with th campaign as a throw-in.

I'll play around in it. The Paynekiller mode sounds kinda cool. It'll really depend on how the bullettime mechanics work. Mostly just interested in the single player.

Not interested. The " perks ", ( already forgotten what they're called blush ), look like BS to me.

Perks ruin multi-player. They are always imbalanced, always abused, and as for tactics - I just saw a lot of people running and gunning.

This won't restore my faith in the shooter genreTBH.

Back to Barbie pony adventure for me.

Early reports are in, we're looking at a 9 hour campaign. Hope the MP is solid.

As I get deeper into the campaign, I get a little more annoyed with how it plays. The draw of Max Payne is supposed to be the bullet time and the crazy John Woo slow-mo diving shit. But when the enemy camps 20-30 yards away behind every bit of cover they can find, you can't do any of that. Instead you're forced to play it like GTA or RDR, sitting behind cover and waiting for someone to pop their head out. And just to add a little extra fun; damn near every bad guy gets body armor, an assault rifle and frags. You usually get a pistol, or if you're lucky 2 pistols.

The multiplayer is where it shines, but even there it's more cover based and less Matrix based. You get the mini-30 (The M-14 for you COD folks) pretty early on, and it's a 2 shot killer even to the toe. Why run around the map and risk dying when you can sit in a corner and pick those fools off? But that doesn't mean it's not fun. The bursts you get are quite varied and add some much needed depth. Of the ones I've unlocked so far there's a lot you can do with them. One acts like a UAV, sending up flares over enemy heads at level 1 and marking every enemy for your team at level 3. My personal favorite so far gives you 20 seconds of armor piercing ammo at level 1, an LMG at level 2 and a grenade launcher at level 3. To level these up you have to loot the corpses of dead enemies, which also gives you quite a bit more XP towards ranking up.

It's quite a bit of good fun. Once I ranked up enough to branch out from the standard TDM the campers grew fewer in number, game modes like Gang Wars and Payne Killer being much more full of frantic action. I had my concerns with the bullet time, but it actually works out nicely. Even if player A initiates it, player B has just as much chance to get the kill. A has the advantage of being in a dive where B is probably standing still, but they both fire and turn and move at the same speed. It's really only an advantage if you come up to the side of someone, or for diving around a corner to shoot someone.

For the moment it's a pretty fun game. I don't know if it's got the legs to last too long, but it should help fill the gap this summer til the big games start dropping in the fall.
