Autumn Fallout Rivals - A Class Tuning Thread

Safe bet there will be a CBH for this event sometime in May.  Until then maybe we can use this tread to discuss cars that will set competitve times.

It looks like the NSX-R GT is the car to beat right now which means I can't use that car to set my time.  Personal choice.

I had 15 A class cars in my garage that were eligible and after driving most of them I chose this.

After picking the parts I wanted on it, I let Forza do a Quick Upgrade in A class to max out the PI.
I then ran the car through ForzaTune/Fantune to establish the base setup.
The only change I've made since then is to lower the Accel Diff from 25% to 15% to reduce throttle induced oversteer exiting the corners.

Chasing Psybertech's ghost, I ran a 1:38.278 but I think there's still a few more tenths in it.

Turn in and braking are good.  There are two areas where I'm dealing with a bit of oversteer but I think it's more mechanical than aero.

The first area is the double apex lefts that lead on to the covered bridge straight.  There's a bump in between the apexes and as well as exiting the second corner since it starts going uphill.

The second area is at the top of the hill through the esses.  I can't quite get to full power as soon as I'd like becuase the car feels like the back end wants to snap around.

If I had to sum it up, I don't think the car likes sudden or large weight transfers on the rear while close to full power.

While trying to diagnose the throttle oversteer I had upped the rear aero to 150 lbs which helped plant the rear of the car.  Ultimately I dropped it back to 137 when I figured out the diff setting.  I know increasing the rear wing will help but that'll also add drag.  If there's something mechanical I can do on the suspension, I'd like to try that first.

Current suspension settings...

As a side project I was thinking about doing some part swaps so I can get the race tranny and a few more hp on the car.  Stock 5th seems a bit too tall for this track.

The full build sheet is up on MyForzaGarage.  I don't have it on my storefront but I can make it available or gift it out if someone wants to play around with it.

I might try dropping the ARB's by about 50% and adding a touch of neg. rear toe.

Gonna have to build one of these. Is yours the 4 banger or a V8 swap?

Four Cylinder.  Haven't tried swapping for the V8 and keeping it in A class.

Excel rounded some of the numbers when I copied/pasted from MyForzaGarage.
Rear Toe is -0.2. Fixed in my previous post.

I'll give the ARB adjustment a try and see how that works and then look at the rear toe.

Thanks!

I'm gonna put up a tune that I just put together for the Lancia 037 on my SF, but if anyone wants me to gift it to them just ask.  It's not quite as stable as the NSX-R GT, but it has better acceleration.

I ran a 1:35.848 with it, good for 383rd at the time of this posting, which is well above my average ranking

Of course, now that I look at the LB, the 037 is the only other car to crack the top 100.  I swear I didn't know that when I picked this car to tune!wink

emz/shaggy,

Could you send over the tunes to test?

I haven't hit my PB for this yet and will give these a run and give you some feedback.

I was also thinking about running a Skyline (that car currently does sit on the LB in that event already in the top 250 times or better if I recall) and maybe even a run in the 92 NSX to see where a straight NSX might compare to her sexier sister.

Yeah, I'll shoot out a FR later tonight when the TV  is open.

If you'd like I can also send you my 1st  run at a Austin Healy tune for the B Class Infineon rival event as well.

I ran a few different cars last nite (buzzed) and found a few that were in the 1:38s.

I put together a GXP and it was in the 1:38s but I couldn't find a groove. It definitely needed a better tune for the curbs and other areas.

I will try again tomorrow and dial it in a bit more.

Of all the cars I tried though, I couldn't get within a second of my current time. I re-ran my NSXRGT to see if I was off or it was the cars and I was .5 slower on my best lap in her so perhaps I was just off for a while. I was impressed with the GXP.. shockingly so. Not too bad and has potential for sure!

Anyway.......

Lots to build and test! yay!

haha

I LOVE my NSX! Favorite unicorn so far by far at least to me.

I do want to really fine tune the 92 NSX tune to get close. I was about a second off last nite, maybe a tad over, but I will tweak it some more just to have a non-unicorn car that can hopefully keep up as best as possible.

I haven't really focused on any classes so far, but I think A class might be the one to really start building since I have found my mojo and do enjoy a bit of speed so A class seems to be a good fit and this event plus a few other rivals possibilites might make this a fun, productive month for me.

Anyway.....

Psyber,

I'll gift you the GXP tune I've got this evening.  Raddo's suggestion on the ARB's helped me find another tenth. Now sitting at 1:38.131.  Updated MFG.
I may switch to racing my own ghost to see if I can find that last tenth and break into the 1:37's.

Another thought I had.  I wonder how many of the Porsches would run a sub 1:39 lap time?

Shaggy,

Like Raddo said but in a liitle more detail, If you're still struggling with the rear end wanting to break loose, try adjusting the the rear toe a little more negative (toe-in).  I had to do the same with my Lancia as it felt a touch loose through that whole upper section.  Just move it a tenth at a time until it feels more buttoned down, then you should be able to drop the downforce.  Shouldn't need more than -.5 most of the time.

I'm gonna have to try your tune I was looking for a good tune for that car because it have great 50% weight distro. I couldnt seem to find a good balance between heftiness and horsepowers.

I logged in between work and choir rehearsal last night to gift Psyber my tune when Raddo messaged me that he ran a 1:37.6xx in the GXP.

He was kind enough to compare notes and give me some useful tips on parts selection as well as gifting me the current version of the tune he had.

We weren't that far off on parts selection so as an experiment I applied his tuning settings to my car.
My fourth lap in testing was a 1:37.697 before I had to head out for rehearsal.

I couldn't duplicate that later that night, but I did run a 1:37.778.  Within 10-15 seconds of running that lap I get a Rival Notice.
Raddo had beaten my previous time in the GXP with a 1:37.3xx.
I tried running the setup he gifted me but I wasn't able to break 1:38. I had run about 30 laps prior so I think I was getting fatigued.  Will probably try again in the next day or so.

So Thank you Raddo for your advice and assistance and Curses, Raddo for beating my time.  Hopefully you got at least 100K outta me.

The reason I had a Solstice in my garage was because of the Setup reality show that was on Speed TV a few years back.
They raced Solstices on both seasons of the show and they looked pretty racey so I thought I'd see how racey.
If you've never seen the show, here's a quick promo.

It might still be available on Netflix streaming.  If not, the prodicer Scott Gillen has both seasons available for free viewing on his website.
Just look under the television section once you get into the site.

Fun Fact.  The Solstice GXP is based of General Motor's Kappa platform.
Another car in Forza 4 that shares the same platform is this...

The 2007 Saturn Sky Roadster.
FM4 classifies this as a roadster so it's not available for the Autumn Fallout Rival event and it also doesn't appear to have as many upgrade otions as the Solstice.  However, my thoery is that if you get a really good setup on the Solstice it should translate fairly well over to the Sky.

In looking through my garage I discovered a car that I hadn't done all that much with.

The De Tomaso Pantera.

Three a quick A tune on it and ran a 1:37.128.  It could probably get into the 1:36's with a little more practice.

I was testing a Lancia build on my other Xbox/GT (MekTek RC73) before and ran against your ghost (you are set as a favorite on it) and didn't have a clue what the hell it was I was chasing (I didn't look before I hit start.. d'oh!).. I had to pause after the first lap to see what the hell you found! haha.. nice! The rear end ghost looked badass when I was chasing it ... sorry to say though I did pass it in the Lancia but the Lancia is basically a LB car outside the NSX unicorn.

I want to give it a whirl! Mind sharing?

One thing I love about your Shaggy is your drive to find these odd, weird potential gems and run the tires off them! kudos man!

Thank You.

If there's nothing on the line like a unicorn I have more fun running cars I like than what the leaderboards dictate, especially if those cars turn out to be quick.
However, I did pick up M3's NSX tune last night and am planning on running it before the end of the month. But I do like the NSX.

I don't mind sharing at all.  It's fun seeing what you tuning experts come up with.

I'd classify any tune I make as a base tune, although I'm trying to apply a coule of the tips I learned from Raddo about parts selection.
Also instead of running it through Fantune, I used the tuning calc on MyForzaGarage.

I'll give you the tune shortly.
