The Arsenal Of Halo 4 - GI article
I am just diving into it myself right now.

Railgun!
Now the big question. Will this be in multiplayer?
isn't that what you called it to be in the "mystery weapon" thread?
OH YEAH!!! THEORETICAL PRIZES FOR ME!!
WHUT UP NOW SON!!!
rofl.
sounds like a Brute Shot.
kinetic and explosive damage.
I really wish the game would just come out. It's going to be a long wait.
I can feel it in my loins. I gotta stop looking at Cortana.
She does look stupid hot in the new screen shots. Too bad she doesn't actually exist.
I'm guessing the Brute shot had enough of an effect that they gave us essentially a human version with the Railgun. Thing is, if it's as deadly as I think it might be (think two body shots or one head), it'll end up being the newest power weapon everyone runs for at the beginning of a match. I'd seriously like to see some video of this weapon in action, you know? Maybe a custom match where everyone is armed with it?
I hope it (and other heavy weapons) don't have that stun effect that Reach has (Concussion rifle, Fuel Rod, grenades, etc.). One of the most maddening parts of the game IMO. Gets me killed so many times in Firefight.
Bolding mine.

If constipation were personified, it would like like this.
Pretty much.
I can't picture a railgun having an arc like a Brute Shot, though. Isn't the point of a railgun to deliver a super high velocity round, repeatedly, with virtually zero recoil? Sounds like a balancing nightmare (and a worthy hitscan weapon, for once).
I'm expecting a Spartan laser-like weapon that fires a little bit faster and literally destroys anything in its path.
Hence the balance nightmare. They'll have to create some arbitrary way to balance it out, like it taking a long time to reload or have it hold little amounts of ammo, like the rocket launcher and/or things like that.
I suggest it might be a four shot hand cannon primarily for anti-vehicle purposes. Unlike the Spartan Laser, it could have a more or even less powerful scope to control the balance.
Not putting them in in the first place is the most effective anti-vehicle measure.
That's true. Snickers are pretty yummy.
My fondest memories of the Brute Shot were the flips and dances the warthogs did after being pelted by a few well placed rounds. That weapon description of the railgun sounds fairly spot on for what I can only imagine is a brute shot themed replacement for the pro-pipe.
The ARC-920 Railgun is a compact-channel linear accelerator that fires a high-explosive round at incredible speed, delivering both kinetic and explosive force to both hard and soft targets alike.
Sounds like the exisiting concussion rifle except at higher speed?
Have they said what the advantage/disadvantage of the BR over the DMR is? Seems like the BR with it's burst fire would be the way to go most of the time.
The return of the br is the thing that I'm the most excited about. They should have never removed it from the game.
I imagine the DMR would be more useful in btb, especially for support players. The BR will be better for mid to short range engagements.
Yeah, I'd much, much rather have a DMR on a map like Sand Trap, Stand Off, Valhalla, Hemorrhage, and so forth. Trying to be a BR support player on Sand Trap was an exercise in frustration. Random BR spread over long distances, coupled with shots not registering on XBL, made for a pretty bad experience. It was a miracle if you could finish a kill before they reached cover or before your clip ran out.
I think vehicle maps can be both fun and competitive if the map is designed well. I don't like all-out vehicle wars like the Heavy gametypes in H3 BTB, but a map like Valhalla with 1 hog per team was just about right. I don't consider myself a great player, but I used to enjoy watching Theater films of some of the level 50 Squad Battle teams like The Stats and see how the maps and gametypes played out at a high level of play. The vehicles and weapons and equipment and stuff all seemed to balance pretty well and there didn't seem to be any obviously cheap tactics to abuse. Most things had a counter to them. I remember wishing that there were a pro league for those kinds of gametypes (6v6 or 8v8 on bigger maps with a couple vehicles). I think it could have worked if MLG would give stuff like that a chance. Shooting a hog turrent doesn't take the same individual skill as sniping, but it takes a lot of teamwork and smarts to use vehicles well when you're playing against people who know what they're doing.
