OT - Disconnected form Xbox live - again!
Ok, sorry for the almost entirely un-Forza related topic..... but has anyone else has been experiencing problems connecting to or being disconnected from Xbox live lately?
In the last couple of weeks I have had numerous times when my Xbox has disconnected from Xbox live in the middle of a race and yesterday my Xbox could'nt connect to Xbox live at all. I have no idea whether this is something I need to fix/adjust with my hardware or a microsoft issue that I just need to wait for them to resolve.
My Xbox is connecting to my home network fine but when I test my connection it tells me that my network is not connected to the internet, even though I know my internet connection is working fine. As this is now starting to ruin my enjoyment of the game I would be grateful for any ideas to stop this happenning! Thanks.
Can you tell us your set up a bit more Swhite :)
Xbox to router is connected by cable or wireless?
Is the router also the modem?
Have you called your isp to see if there is any line sync issues or bandwidth restrictions inplace (what type of connection do you have?)
A D/C during a game is really annoying!!!! :(
Well I am glad it is not just me that experienced this yesterday.
I was settling down for an hours Wednesday night fun when the connection dropped and would not come back. Rebooted the router, rebooted the xbox and still nothing. I am hard wired in so switched over to the wireless connection and go the same thing, can see the local network but no internet connection.
Pretty sure it is a MS problem as I have a desktop and laptop plugged into the same router and they had no problems with access the web.
Finally managed to get a connection about midnight but was a bit flakey.
What was more infuriating and made me think it was a hardware fault was the fact that the 4 other xbox in the house could all connect to the COD servers.
Lets see what it looks like tonight.

That is suggesting an MS problem :) OR there was an ISP traffic shaping lol
Not sure if there is a way you can do the tracert command for xbox servers..
I had a simalar problem on Tuesday night after the Fairlady cup, stayed on for a few races then got dumped half way through a race, could not reconnect to XBL, but internet was fine as I used laptop for posting to forum, this has happened a few times in the last couple of weeks, thought it was my setup, but now think the problem lies elsewhere
Thanks for the replies. I am glad I'm not the only one that had this isssue yesterday and earlier this week - hopefully this means its an MS problem which they will sort out soon.
@ Tourni: Setup is as follows:
Xbox to router is connected by cable or wireless? Wireless.
Is the router also the modem? Yes, its an O2 broadband wirless box II, from memory....
Have you called your isp to see if there is any line sync issues or bandwidth restrictions inplace (what type of connection do you have?) Have not called but don't think my internet connection is an issue as I have had no problems getting on the internet at any time and I never get anywhere near my monthly broadband usage limit.
A D/C during a game is really annoying!!!! :( - Agreed, it's annoying when you are leading for obvious reasons and its annoying when you are not leading as it looks like you're a bad loser!
I agree that it's most likely an MS issue (will try to connect when I get home tonight and see if things are now working), but potentially an issue with the fact I am using a wireless connection from my Xbox to the router. It's not possible for me to get a wired connection from my Xbox to my router but I have been thinking about getting a pair of "Homeplugs", the things you can use to pass an internet connection through your home electrical wiring circuit. Does anyone use these to connect their Xbox to their router?
You could get an Ethernet cable through your house. I even run mine outside. (Living room - out side - Xbox)
Wife's office had extensive cables run through the roof from the last occupant. Now they're just sitting there doing nothing...except the one at home I ran to my boy's computer on the other side of the house...
I run the homeplugs to serve Mac's PC's and Xbox in our house.
If you go this route get the ones that have a wireless capabiltity as well as the wired option. Maplins were selling them last month for about £80.
Fast and reliable, recommended.
As for your issue I also have an o2 wireless box, would be interested to see if others are also o2 customers.

Thanks for the last lot of replies. Can't see my wife being too pleased about ethernet cables going up through the roof or around the house tbh.. She seems to have a wire phobia!
Think I will give the homeplugs a try - thanks for the recommendation Paul. It will also mean I can get BBC iPlayer, etc. on my freesat box as I'll be able to hook this up to the internet at the same time.
Excellent - thanks, just ordered a pair.
Hope they arrive before the Endurance race - I can't imagine the rage levels I would achieve if I got disconnected during the first few laps of that one
Lower levels than disconnected the last few laps...
Agreed, the power plugs are good. Bewary of older house wiring though :) Majourity of houses are okay. (i use them)
When you plug them in Steve, try to plug them in on their own wall socket rather than an extension cable. Some times things like mobile phone chargers create noise :)
I do however think your problem is the MS part, especially if your connection was live on other devices.
Don't worry, it's working fine tonight and I have ordered a pair of home plugs so won't be relying on a wireless connection by then either
It's MS servers. Have had all kinds of disconnection problems all week.
yes happned all the time on my previous router was a pain in the ass to connect to you guys and would boot me out on long races. im on a supr hub now but will need to get you guys to help me test it especially gizzie as i could never connect to him. cant wait to smash the old router to little bitties with a hammer and im going to film it.
I havent experienced any of this in the past days or weeks. I got mine all hard wired from modem to router to xbox, ps3, laptop and pc. I do know my friend often get disconnected or trouble connecting to xbox live.
