PROMETHEUS (New FL Trailer)
Just Epic.
I just feel overwhelmed. We have't had a sci-fi movie in this scale for years and years. Best part its by Ridley Scott. This could turn out to be the greatest thing ever or the biggest dissapointment ever, either way its going to be epic.
Isn't this an Aliens prequel? Where are the Aliens?
Aliens?
This dose look good and I do want to see it
I just cant sake this feeling its going to turn out that We/Humans are the Aliens
from some of the stuff i've read its not a true prequel. it takes place in the same time and universe as the Alien movie. either way im stoked for this one.
Yeah. It's not a prequel. It started as it but then transformed into its own movie of humanity trying to find a way to survive. It takes place in the same Universe as the Aliens movies but not same time frame. I'm just excited to see the movie and then go back and watch Aliens and see all the Easter Eggs I can find!
lol. funny you mention going back and watching the other movies. im doing that exact thing right now.
watching Alien3 and Ressurection will be a chore though. i was never really too keen on them.
From everything I can tell this seems to tell the story of how the Aliens got to LV426... how is this not a prequel? The giant Alien spaceship that is taking off in the trailer looks to be the same one you see at the beginning of Alien. Not a prequel my ass.
Can't wait. Like the OP said, we haven't had a sci-fi film on this scale for many years. I'm hoping it will be great.
With such epic scale, I'm a bit worried that it could end up being mediocre... I don't know. I just don't want to have high hopes just in case so I can be all sorts of blown away when I see it.
I'm a bit at ease because its Ridley Scott, you know Blade Runner, don't think he'll pull a Lucas or Michael bay on us.
I want a little Michael Bay. Not too much, but just enough explosions to make the movie great.
Speaking of which

Yeah! Fist pump for 'splosions and a new Ridley Scott space movie.
That's a damn good trailer.
I dunno they maybe trying to throw people off track. I still say prequel.
Looks like it's going to be the story of the, so-called, "Space Jockey". The alien carcass first seen in the beginning of the original (and the special edition of Aliens). I wouldn't count out seeing our fave aliens making an appearance, parts of that trailer look like an alien nest to me.
I wonder how familiar Ridley Scott is with Dark Horse's early Aliens (comic) books. They refernece and feature that character a few times.
Looks like a chestburster in this scene:
I really hope Charlize doesn't ruin this movie. I find her hard to watch when she acts.
Really hope its a Prequel but if not, still gonna be a great story.
It's a prequel. It's got too many ties to the franchise. Regardless of what Ridley says, in my eyes if it takes place in the verse (which it does and looks as its telling the story of how the Xenomorphs got to LV426) it's a prequel.
The whole "It's in the same universe but it's not a prequel" is like saying "We're shooting a movie about Organized Crime in Gotham City but it's not going to be a Batman movie."

Everything about it screams ALIENS. Even the way the title is displayed.
SPOILER: not really but if you have kept yourself completely in the dark about it, then don't read any further.
So saw it this weekend in 3d.
It was good.
The first hour or so was great; thoughtful and quirky, that lured me in to the mystery and intrigue of the unknown mythos of the Alien universe.
Unfortunately the second half or so felt a little rushed. Sub plots were shoved in our faces at inappropriate times, character development was lacking. I honestly felt nothing for all but one of them. The one I did really enjoy was David. david was always great and misunderstood. As I love ALIENs and the rest of the movies in the franchise (not AVP's) I was hoping for some clarity. Didn't get it, no sir not at all. Didn't get a single answer. Some might say that yes we learned where this came from. No sir you did not. Its a possibility that thats where that may have come from, but no, not very likely. Its more like an interesting story that takes place in the same universe with much the same races but in no way at all had any influence in anything that happened in the Alien franchise. In fact you will have more unanswered questions then when you went into the movie.
So why is that disappointing when they said that the movie isn't a prequel and is its own story set in the same universe. Because despite that, Seeing "weyland corps", seeing the alien race ,as they referred to them "the engineers" and many other things that are derived solely from the Alien movies, a huge amount of nostalgia is conjured up while seeing these things and lead you emotionally to a predetermined spot of Alien knowledge that they consciously decide to keep from us. "Neener neener motherfuckers"
Perhaps that is the intention though. Surely they did a little research into what fans believe was going on in this universe. After realizing that there were most likely many varied and complex theories out there, with many passionate fanboys touting their ideas as the only truth, that giving us the answer would most likely come with a backlash of hate. So not wanting to repeat the mistakes of the Phantom Menace, ridley scott and the others created a back story that paralleled the Alien stories but wouldn't cross into. This way we get a idea what happened, where things come from without ever getting any real hard facts that leave the mystery open and keeps the amazing mythos alive for all the fans, and no one loses face. Well played, well played.
So it was a good movie, it had the common movie flaws of present day movie making (poor character dev, ghost plots) but it was an engaging sci fi flic. I think a pure sci-fi fan will enjoy it more then an ALIEN fan as like i said its a parallel story and will leave you with more questions about the mythos then when you came in.
Spoiler: >>>>>>Why do artificial persons always lose their heads in these movies?
>>>> Spoilers <<<<<
I agree with P-Ice, character development was seriously lacking, you really didn't care for any of the characters except David, and maybe seeing Charlize Theron naked. But anyhow I think its biggest fault was that it was extremely predictable, and worse you knew the ending because of the trailers.
I enjoyed the movie, it's sci-fi at its best, big budget, exploring alien planets for the beginning of man, incredibly done spacecraft. I think what was mostly lacking was a tense atmosphere, but aliens where mild at most. A huge departure of the hard skeleton acid for blood bad asses we were accustomed to. Instead we get a snake and a squid. It was disappointing seeing that squid come out during surgery, I was all "here we go.... wtf". I understand the concept, somehow the black goo was life/evolution in a bad way, and it fused differently depending on its environment and host. But I was expecting something more memorable.
Yeah I really like the film as well. Not quite up to my expectations....but they may have been too high. I guess going into it, I wasn't expecting alien which is why I enjoyed it so much. But there were a couple of let-downs.
Here's hoping that a Directors Cut bluray edition will add some character development and a little more....zazz.
