I soldered a set of in-ear headphones on a MS wired headset and with a bit of creativity made a support to mount it on the Tritton. The Tritton mic didn't work with the XBOX period, not even on the pad. It's redicolous that we, as end user, have to get creative to get LICENCED products to work but it is what it is.

Outstanding!...2nd that on having to be creative to get a LICENCED product to work due to INCOMPETENTCY!!!...And the MF'ERS get away with it!!
Yeah. The problem with the Tritton, which is part of the reason I did my mod originally, was that I think the plug is JUST SLIGHTLY too small to fit properly in the controller port. I was constantly having to fiddle with mine, turning it or pushing it in, just a pain. Could be the issue with the wheel partially as well. Though on my wheel, I can't use the MS headset either.
And don't worry about "taking business away" lol I'm not really making any money from it :) Well, except that Wheels decided to give me more than I asked for. Thanks Wheels ;)
Another option, if someone's wheel happens to actually work with the MS headset and not the Tritton or whatever else, is to just cut the cord off the MS headset and splice it with a cable you can plug the headset into. I read several times that the plug on the MS headset isn't EXACTLY the same size as is normally used.
I have the same problem as the rest of you with my Fanatec wheels. I was able to get the wired chat working with my PWTS most of the time, but I could barely hear everyone else and they complained I was way too loud. With my CSR-E, I wasn't able to ever get any wired chat device to work with it. For now I'm using the new Microsoft wireless headset until the Tritton Warhead is released. Tritton says it will release in August, but I'm not holding my breath as it was supposed to release last year.
Now on topic for what the thread was originally started for:
I'm not too excited about the F1 rim for the CSR-E wheel. I don't play F1 style racing games. The closest I get is sometimes driving R1 cars in Forza and I don't need a special rim for that. I'm really waiting for Fanatec to release a quality GT style rim for the CSR-E which matches the quality of the base. Then I will consider buying it.
And Thank You for providing the Club with a Truly OUTSTANDING Creative Service & Product that remedies ongoing issues that Fires Some of OUR ASSES UP!!!!
The formula rim has two d-pad/joysticks. I wonder if one of them would allow you to look right/left or if they just mirror the same useless functions on the Xbox and FM?
And all these horror storys are kinda scaring me off from the CSR-E. if im going to pay near 600 for a wheel 800 if you include the other stuff... I want it to work! lol
So if I'm reading this correctly Zero... voice with everything but the Xbox works? That means the wireless device in the wheel for that isn't being properly used. Like I said, its a MS device that the fanatec hardware needs to tell "do this or do that" possibly encouraging I suppose for fixing wheels not under warranty.
As for the rim... I've seen a lot of up close photos of the CSW and I've had the Elite apart in front of me... They are damn near identical in construction and I wouldn't be surprised if the rim you wanna use could be made to fit... Its just like car makers... They aren't gonna offer both on both wheels. if they did, why bother with the CSW?
Someone find me a good pic of the connector on the back of the CSW rim. I have a hunch :)
the problem on the CSW wheel is its electrical connection is on the inside hub of the wheel. not only that but it would take some serious electonic know how to repin all those buttons to work on a csr-e and even then only some of them will work.
Yes buy fanatec has a habit of reusing parts between wheels... given that they are releasing the f1 rim and expect folks to attach it, its very possible the connection is already the same. I'm going to check when I get home.
Cool also could you pm me a pic of that MS headset so I can see the solder points? Rather than having you go through the trouble I would rather just solder it up myself.
Sure, I'll send you the pics from when I did it. Actually, I posted how to do it here... I'll see if I can dig up the link from the old site :) It's got full instructions.
So, I finally made it home tonight and before boxing the Elite back up to send to, umm, a guy. ;) I snapped this shot of the spindle:
Different, yes... The CSW is made to have the wheel swapped "easily" by having a modular plug and a "quick release" However, take a closer look... Note the bolt pattern on both. The spindle itself has different mountings connected, but the spindles are identical. Now that we know this, what do you think is more likely. Fanatec makes another seperate F1 wheel with a special bracket compatible with the Elite wheel bracket, and different plugs. OR Fanatec uses the same wheel and includes the quick release and modular plug? I'm banking on the second option, in which case, the GT wheel would fit.
However, the rims may differ enough that the GT requires specific code in the firmware to operate properly, firmware that will probably never be released for the Elite.
I will be very curious to see what happens with this... But, you can plainly see the similarities and they don't stop there.
While we are on the subject, and hopefully I still have your attention... Let's play a little game...
How many differences can you spot between the CSW and the CSR Elite? I've intentionally left off the wheel and hub since we know those are different already.
looks like 9 leads on the elite and 13 on the csw..... im sure for the extra buttons/lcds. im sure if someone spent some time with an meter they could get the GT rim to work on the elite just leaving some buttons/lcd unused.
as far as difference... not much at all im sure its the same other that the I/O section of the PCB.
As far as I know, there is no difference mechanically between the CSR Elite base and CSW base. They have different colors, different electronics, and a different mounting system for the rims and that's it.
So then why the big "hooplah" about the production of it, etc?
The interchangeable rims is awesome, granted... but as far as I can tell, a great many folks seem to think its better beyond just this. Better build, more metal, etc.
Sorry, its just frustrating to see.
On that note, have you gone to the new fanatec.com site they launched? Apparently their servers need to be run at 80% as well. Lol
I see the site is still down...Pretty poor showing, I fail to see how such a niche company can get enough hits at once to crash a site and why it should take so long to reset
My guess would be... It still wasn't ready. It was already a day late, they posted saying it would for sure be up today, it still wasn't ready. "Hey, I have a brilliant idea! Let's just make it look like it's so popular that the server couldn't handle it!"
Just like you said, unlikely... Even if every customer hit it at the exact same moment, it would still work, just be slower. That is unless they are hosting it with some $3.50 a month provider...
Ooooh Bash me too, I'm fed up with folk complaning about my audio
And you've found another niche!
Oh crap what did I start lol
I'm joking of course. I'll help anyone that needs it. However, I should probably start a new topic instead of taking this one over with this stuff. ;)
lol this thread was suposed to be about the new rims... its so off topic so who cares lol.
Not trying to take buisnes away from Bash but here is my solution for a Tritton AX Pro/PWTS combo:

Fanatec Fan Site says the formula rim is going to be the only extra rim made for the CSRE which sucks to hear. I was hoping the BMW rim would be made avaliable also. http://f-wheel.com/news/csr-elite-wheel-formula-rim-introduced

as far as the rims go there are a few options to mount aftermarket wheels. Only issue with that is getting the buttons to work and still be usefull.

I actually got an email from Fanatec asking me to check out their new website. When I click on the link provided, this is what I got:
Server overload
Due to a huge amount of inquiries for our new website, the server is overloaded.
Please check back at a later point.
Just like their wheels, overloaded due to use. Nice job Fanatec. I just wish someone else would make a quality wheel for a comparable price.
Lol yeah, that's why I said what I did about it their servers needing to be run at 80%, just like they tell people to run their wheels :)
mavictb,
Here's the link to my wireless mic mod posting. It's on the old site so I hope the link works for you: http://legacy.2old2play.com/modules.php?name=Clan_Forums&file=viewtopic&...
Yeah it wont let me see this content... I aven registered on the legacy forums and still says you need special access.
I guess I have my answer on how they will connect them...
