I've been playing auction house all wrong
I've been playing auction house all wrong
Forewarning: I've never ever used ebay.
Evidently the D3 auction house mimics ebays system.
my perception was this:
exhibit A: Rare Belt (Current Bid: 100) (buyout: 1mil) (time left 10 mins)
I bid 110.
if there is time left anyone else can bid more than my 110 and if they are not outbid they win.\
with this method I would wait until last few mins before bidding my last amount (increment)
REVELATION this is not actually what I should be doing.
If I have 100k lets say as my source funds.
using exhibit A
I should bid 100k (if I think it's worth that much)
Current bid will change to 110 (whaaaaaa!? you say! the auction will hold your funds and auto outbid any other bids up to your 100k max bid)
that other someone else comes in and bids 120 then it will auto bid my 130. if that stands then it'll refund me the difference when the auction is over. I no longer have to babysit my auctions.
I hope this explaination is clear to everyone and clears things up for anyone that thought it worked like I thought it did.
when bidding, just put in your max bid. it'll never cost you that much unless enough other people bid up to that, and if they outbid you then you weren't going to get it anyway, unless you like sniping bids.
k cu guys online.
Mind = blown!
I had no fucking clue that is how this worked. This completely changes how I'll bid on stuff
Thanks for sharing!
I KNOW I was blown away when I learned this. Now I can just place my max bid on something that I want and go to bed or work or whatever instead of babysitting it. I feel foolish for not figuring it out sooner.
Heres' the thing tho.... you can't increase your maximum without outbidding yourself. So if the item price is 200 gold and you bid 100,000 gold on it, the bid will work as described in the orignal post.
But what happens later on when the item price is at 90,000 gold and you want to go to bed or can't sit around wathcing the auction? You can't simply bid 120,000 gold and have the auction increase to 90,010 gold. Instead you out-bid yourself, so the auction will jump to 100,010 gold instead which is pretty stupid.
however if you are not outbid it should refund you the difference based on your last minimum winning bid.
keep in mind with the below I'm not protraying actual valid bid increments
lets say :
item starts :100g
you bid: 5000g (current bid goes to 110g)
you want to go to bed but really want it.
so you re-bid a new maximum of 10K g (current bid goes up to 120g)
If no one ever out-bids your 120 then you will win the bid and be refunded 9890 gold. (you will only pay 110 since that was your lowest winning bid)
you will not pay 120. I've seen this happen before to me and I thought it was a glitch
Dixon posted this up in chat. sigh. I hate the truth sometimes.
Suck it long and hard.
However, you can repent: http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/wrcc9/now_is_the_perfect_time_to_quit_diablo_iii_sell/
