My first allowed post + Fanatec packs
My first allowed post + Fanatec packs
Hey guys,
Today is my 25th birthday and I'm finally allowed to post here according to rules. I have been allowed to lurk around thanks to jcotter and other admins and have been racing with alot of you guys on the Wednesday track nights for a couple of weeks now.
Firstly I would like to thank you all for a great community and great fun during the race sessions, and hope to enjoy many more hours with you guys!
Secondly I was thinking of getting a CSR Wheel value pack XL and Rennsport wheel stand as a birthday present to myself, and am therefore wondering if you guys recommend that combination. The CSR seems to be working ok in general, but the newers ones (Elite and CSW) don't as of yet.
Cheers,
Erik
Happy Birthday Rausner.
Now you can ask as many questions you want
Great that you can post now boss . As for the csr xl pack I would recommend it, that's what
i got and it's great. I had a few probs with it at the start but they were sorted very quickly.
Welcome and congrats on turning a quarter of a century old! Hope to see you on the track and good luck with getting a new setup. Fanatecs are awesome!
Happy Birthday Rausner. Welcome back. See you on the track soon.
Haha Happy Birthday!!!
Its all down hill from here, now that you are allowed to post. If SIM racing is really your thing, then it would be a worth while investment. The general word is that that game really changes for you with a wheel, much great level of realism.
See you out there! :)
Welcome to the forums. I too highly recommend the CSR pack as that is what I race with on the xbox and pc.
Yup CSR here too, it would be a lie to say they are problem free, there can be firmware issues and audio problems...but I love mine and most of these issues, if you get them, can soon be sorted by one of us here.
The Rennsport stand is great and what I started with, the pedals work well and their one flaw (jumpy signal after some months use) is solvable by a very cheap mod from one of our members.
The immersion level jumps up several notches with the set up, but it can take a little while to get used too, took me a while to get back up to speed but now I have I cannot even consider racing with a pad.
Hit the order button you'll love it
Thank you everyone, for both greetings and gratulations!
This is why I'm so happy to finally have turned 25; Being allowed to socialize more with you guys.
I am currently waiting on an e-mail from Fanatec, as two of my mates want the aforementioned packs aswell and we're hoping to perhaps get a slight discount. I will however order a setup either way when the paycheck arrives!
Thank you yet again, and have a good evening. I'm now heading over to a neighbours house for some barbecue and then we're having a big party to celebrate me and the summer (even though most of it has rained away)
Heh I missed the birthday greetings, have a great time and I hope you see a little sunshine for your BBQ.
No worries mate. We had a great evening with wonderful food and drinks and pretty ladies galore!
We went down to the local watering hole and my friends bought a £150 bottle of champagne to celebrate me and then another one ordered a bottle of Smirnoff and a helluvalot of Red Bulls. Basically a perfect evening with sunshine all day and great fun.
Today we chilled and saw Pinchcliffe Grand Prix (The Norwegian doll movie from the 70's about a bicycle repairman who builds a racecar).
Just want Fanatec to answer my email now so I can order a wheel and get serious :D
I tell you man, you are going to have so much fun with that wheel and the rest, as we tell everyone buying the Rennsport take great care assembling, it is easy to get the crosspole the wrong way around, couple of us here have done it
Just ensure the holes in it face towards were you are when using it and your good to go
I'm gonna order the wheel and stand tonight. Do you guys recommend the shifter adapter aswell or should I just skip that one?

I was also wondering what headsets you guys use. I'm still using the one that came with the xbox but the sound quality is crap. Are there any pretty cheap ones that you recommend?
Yeah I'm still using the standard one, it's aweful. I have just ordered the wireless microsoft, anything that plugs into the CSR is doomed to falure. As for the adaptor it's kind of yes and no, the chopsticks do work okay if you screw a couple of bolts between them. That is what most folk do, saves a couple of quid.
So if I don't want to hazzle with bolting a random amount of bolts into it and can spend the €20 you'd recommend getting the adapter?
Will have to look into the wireless headset aswell, do most "wheelracers" around here use it?
Edit: Which one did you order?

Fanatic users yes I think so, not much hassle I used the bolts that were for the adaptor plate that comes with it, but sure 20 quid to have it perfect is no big expence
Um...yup the first headset link is to the one I have ordered.
Ok great, when will you receive the headset? I'll await a review by you before I order one for myself :)
Edit: Oh and I just ordered my Fanatec setup :D
Here is my solution for keeping my racing sounds to myself. I use a pair of nice sennheiser headphones over the top of my microsoft wireless headset. They fit nicely over the wireless mic, comfortable and useable with good sound and no echo. Plus pretty cheap too, I got the sennheiser's with pepsi points, actually we got two pair, one for me and one for my wife for free, just using pepsi points redeemed. The wireless mic I've had since the 360 came out and it still works great.
heh my wife goes into headphones to watch the tv when I am on forza...might try that though when my Turtle Beach DX11's turn up.
The Fanatec CSR wheel is excellent, as is the Rennsport wheel stand. Make sure you follow the directions for the Rennsport carefully, and pay attention to what Knight said above about the crossbar. I did not install it correctly, and the stand would come loose periodically. Also, I highly recommend the shifter set adapter that you asked about. Its much more solid than the chopsticks, and is an easier install. I also like the placement of the shifter better than with the chopsticks. With the shifter set adapter, the shifter sits lower and closer to you than it does when its mounted to the chopsticks.
Excellent. Me and a mate of mine ordered earlier tonight. We ordered separately, because for some reason that was cheaper than ordering together and splitting the postage :S
Also ordered the shifter adapter, so that's great to hear Zero :D
Got an email earlier today from Fanatec that said the wheel was shipped, and UPS tracking number a couple of hours ago. Will have to give UPS a ring tomorrow and tell them to drop the package of at work. Too bad it arrives on thursday, would've been awesome to have had it for the wednesday track night!
Just got everything installed and have tried it for about 15 minutes. I do like it but I suppose I've mucked up the installation like you warned me as the stand becomes loose. The thing is that it's almost fully screwed into the stand, yet my ruthless shifting seems to get it loosed anyway..
The set up looks great. If the chair is comfortable for you, OK, but it looks like it will not do the job long term. With regard to the stand, you have to "find the hole", and make sure the Fanatec knob is fully screwed into it. Even then, you will occasionally need to tighten the knob.
The wheel stand, pedals, shifter and wheel look great........ about that chair..........
LOL yeah that is..tempary I'm sure. Sounds like you have got the thing set up wrong, even when right it will loosen a bit over time but I'm talking hours not 15 mins.
I wouldn't be so sure about that Sir. Knight. Parcells has been using an identical chair for over 2.5 years now with a weekly 3.5 hour sitting...no problemlo.
Since the set up looks exactly like mine I like it!!!!!
3.5 hours? well that expains it...lightweight!
I have an office chair aswell, but the wooden one is more upright and isn't on wheels and can't turn sideways so it's much more stable. I'm starting to get the hang of things now but shifting to third is always a bitch ^^
Btw, how many degrees of turning have you set your wheels to?
I also lowered my FF to 70, as 100 is too stronK when you want to steer with one hand on the shift knob!
Keep your FFB at 100 on the wheel and turn it down in game, otherwise you lose the more sutble FX, turn Sens off then the game controls that setting. Just pulling your leg on the chair
