CS:GO

Anyone getting this?  It's getting a ton of hype on the PC but I haven't heard much on PS3.

As many of you know I am a big UT3 fan and I play with with mouse and keyboard.  I see CS:GO will have mouse and keyboard support and I played a ton of CS on 2o2p servers several years ago.  I would love to play this again.

Glad to hear that someone else is picking up. If you grab it on the 360 we will have to play.

I am debating about Xbox or PS3.  The Xbox version will not have Steamworks.  The PS3 version will have keyboard and mouse control and play with PC players.  I don't think I would play CS with a controller, it's too fast of a shooter.  I am leaning towards the PS3 and getting out my wireless keyboard and mouse.  However, I know I will have more friends on the Xbox playing it.  Decisions...  How about both!!! :)

Are they doing something similar to Portal 2 where you buy it on the PS3 and get a free copy on Steam for your PC or Mac?

I have  3 year old Macbook Pro with a 2.4ghz core 2 duo and 9600m.  I have a feeling it will run but not well.

Mac System Requirements

    • OS: MacOS X 10.6.6 or higher
    • Processor: Intel Core Duo Processor (2GHz or better)
    • Memory: 2GB RAM
    • Hard Disk Space: At least 7.6GB of Space
    • Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 2400 or better / NVidia 8600M or better

No.  I just found out they dropped cross platform play.  The reason being they wouldn;t be able to update it fast enough to keep them in sync.

I think I will be getting the Xbox and PC version then.

I'll most likely be picking it up for both the PC and the PS3. I have some extra playstation money on my account and I've always been a major fan of CS.

I picked it up for the xbox last night.  It's counter strike all right.  And with classic modes and classic maps it is no different than CS:Source.

However, the new modes are fun.  The bad is the lack of customization on private matches.

I am going to dig out my usb keyboard and mouse and give the PS3 trial a whirl.

Probably going to pick it up on the PS3. Not seeing many playing on the 360, plus it's cheaper with plus and I'll get $3 back.

I played for a few rounds last night.
it's a bit awkward w/ the dualshock controller i kept dropping my main weapon... dunno how exactly.

I might pick this one up in the near future ... @ $12 it's probably worth it.

in the end, Same Game with new graphics and new weapons... still fun for a little revival.

Twitchy, you can customize the controls.  Though I assume they are mapped simialr to the xbox and drop weapon is down on the dpad.  Spot, CS was never a bunny hop fest.  Hopping actually slows you down in the game.

I gave the PS3 a trial last night.  Keyboard and mouse is definitely the way to go.  On the Xbox I did the training course in 1:07.  On the PS3 with a mouse - 41s.  I bought the Xbox version.  Debating about the PC version.  Steam will have a sale at some point.

Eh...what?  CS: Source is infamous for kids bunnyhopping all over the place.  It's one of the reasons I stopped playing it.

Go do a quick search on YouTube for "Counter Strike Source Bunny Hop".

The tutorial on YouTube is hilarious.  "Jump.  When you hit the ground, jump again."  Wow.  I couldn't have figured that out without a 2 minute instructional video.

Weird, because when I played it hardly happened.  It ended up causing you to be a big target.  You know where they are going to land and they are slower, easy headshot.

There were a ton of scripts around to help with it, too.  It was very frustrating to shoot people using them as they were next to impossible to hit.

Hell...there's even a trophy called "Bunny Hunt" that you get for killing an airborne enemy.  cheeky

And we can't have a Counter Strike thread without this classic:

Well, I guess I play with more sensible people then.  I've been having a blast on the Xbox version.  There are times where I notice I would have hit someone if I had a mouse.  BUT overall the controls are good as you can really customize them.  I just won't be sniping in the game like I use to.

Being totally new to the Counter Strike series I can say that since Wednesday and my purchase of the game I have NOT seen anyone jumping in my games. People jumping to get to certain spots, yes, but in a gun fight,no. I guess I never really got the jumping as a cheap tactic argument. It is a video game where others are trying to shoot you and kill you. Using any means not to get hit doesn't seem like a cheap tactic. Now spawn camping is a whole other topic that I will truly agree is a shitty tactic.

I've played counter-strike extensively for the past 12 years and I have never come across anyone bunny hopping. There has been every kind of cheat imaginable. Walhacks and Aimbots are fairly common, just no bunny hopping. In my opinion, it would make you an easy target.

I just completed the 60 minute trial on the Playstation. My only major complaint is that in 90% of the games, my teammates thought it would be funny to shoot the hostages before they made it to the rescue point. What's sad is that in the other 10% of the games, the terrorists just killed the hostages in the beginning of the round, and made it a death match.

wow... 12 years of CS? and no bunny hopping?
color me mystified.

people have even made scripts for this ...

there's a wikipedia entry for it. LOL

I still love Counter Strike, don't know why I stopped playing short of not having a good enough PC anymore.

Yeah, never seen it. I swear to Tebow....

In GO when you jump, you become really slow and your aiming rectile gets massive making it nearly impossible to hit anything.

From my time playing it on the PS3, bunny hopping hasn't been an issue at all. That'll probably change in the next few months but for now it's not a problem.

I think from what I've read proper bunny hopping would only be doable on the PC version (modify var's in the config file).  Yes people could jump and down - but not actually generate adventageous speed via skilled bunny hopping).

I'm a fan of bunny hopping (not via script or anything like) as it is a skilled move that rewards people who spend time learning the skill properly.  But whatever :)  either way CS is still a fun game.

During the load screen a ticker ran across the bottom stating that "jumping makes you an easy target and reduces your aim." I guess after reading that if someone "bunny hops" and still gets a kill, well it seems to me that they EARNED it.
