State of the Union...

I stumbled into online hoppers last night, 2nd time ever sicnce the XBOne landed in the living room and I quickly moved to the Cycled Production lobby as the others are idiotic at best.

I got into a lobby and ran with a group that fluctuated a little, there were one of two that seemed out of place and they left quickly, and to be sure there were a few that were green and  bit uncomfortable, but all in all the room was civil, talk was fun and respectful, and while some cars bone stock are absolutely horrendous, fun was had.

And this all reminded me of what used to happen around here on a regular basis, and that made me a bit sad...

That is a sad reality unfortunately.

But fortunately anyone still running GT6 can join my Thursday night lobby as that is exactly what we do every week and the same people keep showing up so it must be atleast half fun.

The problem is that with the transition to new consoles, plus the lack of legacy wheel compatibility, many of us did not upgrade to the Xbox One and the Forza games that are exclusive to it.  Moreover, some of us, myself included, get our multiplayer fix with other games, such as GT6, or in my case, iRacing.  It is sad, but its also reality.  Sim racing has gotten much more expensive compared to when I first jumped into it in 2009.

I to feel your pain. Back when FM4 came out I found a bunch of guys that loved to race and have a good time. Some races was "run what you brung" but the real fun ones were organized points type races where the winner would be gifted a car with a hand painted livery from the guy who was running the series. Everyone showed up, everyone had fun, and it was as close as a real race series that I have ever been in. And like was said before I think alot of the bust up of racers comes down to money. Not wanting to fork out hundreds of dollars for a wheel and system.

I recently built a HTPC with good enough specs to run PC racing games. I bought Arsseto Corsa, purchased a couple packs on Raceroom Experience and even tried Iracing for a bit. Although these games have better frame rate than consoul games they are missing something for me. While I was trying to figure out the ins and outs of these PC games, I asked on a forum "How do communicate with other racers?" because it seems you have to have a different program (Teamspeak) in order to talk to people. It seems that talking on PC racing games is realy not heard of. I got a lot of "I dont want to hear chatter" or "it takes away from the emersion of the race". Which I can understand, but that what makes racing on my Xbox so much fun...being able to laugh and even cuss at the person your racing. True it can get annoying when you have a douch bag listening to Celine Deon but that is what the mute button is for.

My hope is one day we can all race, laugh and cuss together as one again.....

Unfortunately I do my best racing when I'm alone and focused.  But I enjoy myself much more when I was in a lobby and joking around with my buddies.  Much like the traditional "Poker Night".  It didn't matter who won (to me at least), but it was the kinship I developed with the other half wits I loved racing with.

We still joke about the time someone new who had one too many and misread my GT.  So now everyone still calls me oldmelt.

Good  thing is I'm a 1/4 Irish so I'm gonna change my first name to Paddy.

I totally agree, quiet, focused racing will turn out your fastest laps, maybe. But a lobby full of trash talking, off color joking fun is more, well fun. And usually more important than being in the lead.

Besides, it's more fun being in front of Katpeeler on track than beating his time in rivals.

Thiis s a quote from another thread where "clan" inequities and hierarchy were discussed, and I compared that to us here.

Quote:

I have authority issues...I would not subject myself to any of that nonsense. I think that's one of the reasons I like our racing group.

Randoms show up, we race on a random track with somewhat random cars, and someone randomly wins while we randomly joke about whatever random things are going on in life, on the track etc. This makes great use of a feature called a FRIENDS LIST. And you don't even need an invite, you just drop in...

When we aren't doing that we actually race in spec series with set cars and tracks/schedule and still randomly joke about whatever random things are going on in life, on the track etc.

I think it sums up the same thing you're speaking to Kat.

Yes i too remember when I first joined this group and always seeing filled race rooms during actual race events or just open race night .  talking about what ever was on our minds .  I remember even getting the PM's for my crappy driving. I believe this can happen again ( not the crappy driving) . The Xbox One is getting cheaper Fanatec now has a universal hub for Xbox One which can be used on all consoles and PC except Xbox 360 there also going to be annoucing more opitions for Xbox One before the end of the year.. Hopefully the next F6 will have what we all loved before F5. Keep hope alive.

I truly miss the Forza 4 era level of comradare, this was the best group I have ever been a part of.  All we do on Forza 5 anymore is hot lap rivals events.  I have had to resort to public rooms and it fucking sucks.

Hopefully this group goes back to that.  I have stuck around poking my head in once in a while for the past year and a half in great hope for this.

FM5 made it difficult for people to get together....No private lobbies is the biggest culpret. Lets hope FM6 will bring this back plus club garage and gifting.....FM5 makes it hard to socialize

I'm hoping T10 brings all that back as well, Katpeeler. FM5 isolated us from each other. Totally anti-social game compared to FM4. I also hope one of these titles gets us back together again. I don't care wether it's pCars, FM 5 or something else.

I have a feeling things will pick up come FM6. Well, if it gets good reviews from you guys then I'll be back for sure.

The euro side of 2o4f seems to have taken an especially big hit though :(

The game has gone gold and the developers are already working on the Day 1 patch.  My source for this info is the WMD site.  I am one of the investor/members.

Hey guys long time no see.... Miss racing here.

Still no money for the xbone.  Needed to keep the E30 on the road.

I have GT6 but the internet connection has been terrible at best, even with my cable connection. I had problems with some of the guys on Thurs.  Walked away from it too for awhlile.  Back doing the seasonals and the Academy.

Someday I will get the xbone and join in.

it wasn't "a problem with one of the guys" it was connections with some of the guys. For some reason there was 1-2-3 guys that I couldn't see or them seeing me on the track.  I had a lot of fun with all the guys that I did get to race with.   I may try again.

There remain intermittent connection issues with GT6, the 1.17 patch being extra terrible but I haven't seen the people not seeing other people on Thursday evenings for some time now which may be pure fluke. These days its people losing their connection, notably Parcells almost once a week now, knock on wood it hasn't been extremely inconvenient.

I'm very impressed with PD's constant patching and generally making things better but I'm equally unimpressed with how they always seem to ruin something else that was previously working.

So True Old School....Parcells use to be King of Wit and Scarcasm...He use to be like a Wild Stallion...Now, like a pony, kids ride his back for $.25 a ride. Rumor has it now that Doodi has him policing the posts for any signs of ambilvalence towards other members perceived or known as fact therefore resulting in admonishment...What Has Happen To Parcells? My bag of quarters are ready for Thurday Night..... WHATTTTT??surprise

OK, you've had your fun Wheels (you really nailed the $0.25 pony ride jab btw) but I'm afraid this kind of delinquent behaviour cannot go unpenalized so I've decided to dock you 10 points from your points total this evening.

You forced my hand here bud, hope you understand. Live and learn.
