Playing mostly Destiny but I tend to play a little bit of everything and it depends on whether I feel like playing a multiplayer game with someone or just sticking to a single player game.

I've been trying to learn the ins and outs of Neverwinter. I'd gotten decently far in Destiny before starting (one level 31 character, but no raiding, fancy armor, or weapons), and it still calls to me late at night when the house is very quiet.

I'm actually finding Neverwinter pretty fun even without purchasing any micro transactions. And Destiny is killing me, I need about 40 Acendant Shards to get to level 32.

I was strictly free to play with Neverwinter on PC, and thought it was a blast. So I did buy a mount on Xbox, but just to throw the developer a bone rather than because I felt any necessity. Though I do get to ride around on an armored dog now. Bonus!

I get the feeling that you're supposed to get all those ascendant materials needed to level Destiny characters by raiding. But I'm not a very good player, so I've been too timid to participate in an activity designed to wipe the whole team when one guy makes a mistake. 'Cause that guy would probably be me.

I plan, like you said to throw the developer a bone so to speak but it's really hard when the cost of everything is way more than it's worth.

On the Destiny note, yes you've gotta do raids and again like you I am definately not that good but even though I may not be a leader in Destiny I am a follower and trust me you don't need to be timid in participating, everyone I've ever played with has been awesome and knew up front that with me learning it would take a bit.

We'll have to grab a few guys/gals and see if we can do it regardless of talent LOL

And even if we don't at least we can say we tried wink

You can get shards and energy from successfully completing public events.  There is also a way to "get in the door" solo on VOG.  Look for that on You Tube.  When I get a chance I will do a short walk thru video for this and post it here.  Doing this will get you 2 shards or energies for each character that you can run VOG with.  I do this first thing every Tuesday morning.  Also, one can solo CE and get 2 radient shards or energies for each character by just searching for the first chest.  To do this, head for the first lamp, make a left at the first path and look to see if the lamp is lit over the room door.  If it is lit, continue into the room and open the chest.  If not, turn around, go back to the landing area, and jump off the ledge.  When respawned, try again.  Rinse and repeat until the lamp is lit.  There are 6 rooms and sometimes it takes up to a dozen "wipes" for the chest to rotate back to the first room.

Mike: I'd definitely be up to try raiding some time. Never mind the rewards, it would be great just to see what it's like.

OldnAchy: Wow, I had no idea. I've tried to read up on Destiny a bit, but I guess I'm missing a lot of advanced topics like this.

@Old I've done that a couple times get's boring after a while, I'd actually rather play all the way through with someone. Mind you it's nice to get those 2 at the beginning. Also I only have one character.

@hemihuman  I've actually learned a lot mostly from my 16yr old son but also from great people like OldnAchy that take the time to inform those that aren't as knowledgeable in everything Destiny. (or any game)

For ascendant energy/material, you can also do the dailey.

Oh yeah, do the mid-level difficulty and get one piece, do the hardest and get two.

I agree it is better -- more satisfying -- to get these goodies from game play itself, but because of real life issues I wasn't able to put the time in earlier in the game especially in team formation for strikes and raids and had to level up to 31 pretty much on my own.  I researched these types of "tactics" to help in that process.  Doing the vault door and the first room in Croata with just one character can be a real grind if you get just two pieces per try.  And Bungie seems to have a sadistic sense of humor.  If you need shards, you get energy.  If you need energy, you get shards.  Used to drive me nuts.

Actually doing the raids is much more satisfying and the shard/energy payoff is much higher, but finding an experienced team that is willing to tutor or demonstrate what needs to be done when can be a litttle problematic, especially now when all the experienced people have basically burned out.  I would recommend trying the looking for game (lfg) Destiny sub forum here or even one of the lfg sites out there in Timmie land to hook up for raids.

You also have the possiblity of scoring shards or energies running Nightfall, but no guarantees there.

Regardless, here is the promised walk thru:

What?! How?! Who figured that out?! I would never find that if I played Destiny for a million years.

I have a 16 year old myself, but she has zero interest in Destiny, so no tips from the family for me. Thanks for the demonstration!

Probably a circumstatial/accidental thing. The trick has been passed on from person to person for awhile. Most of the videos look exactly the same but few have the excellent narration Achy provides.

My method varies only minutely. I start a timer (right hand) at the exact moment of spawn whilst also bringing up the vehicle/go to orbit menu (left hand)(press x right hand). At 1:53 I start coasting out and boost when in the clear. If the Spire is built then I keep going to the vault door. It will open for you but if it doesn't, glitching in like Achy did it will work.

I suspect you can jump up the ledges through the hole to the central switch plate instead of riding a Sparrow the whole way but have yet to try it.

Most of the guys/gals that I have managed to play with I've learned a lot.  And can hold my own but when it comes to sword time I leave that to someone else. I think the longest time I've been in a raid was just over 3 hours and now most of the time anywhere for 30 minutes to an hour.

Can't get away from Destiny. Crota's work is never done.

It's like, my brain only wants to play one game at a time, for long periods.

Gotta agree with that.  I fired up Neverwinter and got bored within 10 minutes of game play.  Never have been much of a DoD or WoW fan.  Deep we have to get an old guy team regularly raiding.

Best chance of that is Thur nights. I'll bring it up Tue during Halo.

You have to buff Neverwinter quite a bit more than that for the shine to emerge. The main problem I have with the first few minutes of the game is that it's easy. I need to be sent to the graveyard once or twice early on. First I get mad, then I get hooked.

Keep me in mind if you need more people for raids. Definitely planning on more Destiny at some point before summer.

Also, what's this Tue Halo thing? It's Xbox 360, not One, right?

The Tue thing is the over age 50 Halo group. It's mostly filled with that group but there may be a spot. I.E. Last week we had 16 but two were not quite 50 yet.

We currently play Halo4/360 because MCC is a mess for custom games.

Figured I'd bump this thing back from the dead.  laugh

Played a bit of WoW & Guild Wars 2 last night.  First time back in WoW in probably 3-4 months...spent 45 minutes or so trying to re-learn various bits.  Then hopped into GW2 and ran a couple alts further along the personal storyline with a guildie.  Bedtime got there before I knew it.  Doh.

I'll be running rFactor tonight for a LMP2 race...then likely hop on GW2 again afterwards.  I'm taking tomorrow off, so 6pm tonight I'm on my weekend!  blush
