As a 343 Industries rep writes on Halo Waypoint, the promised, free Halo 3: ODSTexpansion is "on track" to be part of next month's content update. Beyond that, the patch also adds the revamped "Relic" multiplayer map into the fold. Remember -- ODSTisn't a total overhaul along the lines of Halo 2, it's just the old game running at 1080p and 60 FPS. "Relic," however is getting the full remaster treatment and even a new name that'll be revealed at a later date.
Does the XB1's version of ODST include firefight?
No. Only the campaign.

The campaign was pretty good, but the FF kept me playing. ODST is the only game where I've received every achievement - many of them were FF related. Many good times for a party of 4.
ODST is wrongly maligned and dismissed as an "expansion pack". Character driven campaign told from different perspectives is very solid and a blast if you roll with a friend in co-op. Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Tricia Helfer and rest of the cast do a very good job.
The story of the little girl Sadie told through collectible audio logs makes for compelling entertainment in its own right. Great Halo combat and gunplay as expected but not being a Spartan super soldier changes it up from the rest of the series. Memorable set piece battles. Much more humor than previous Halo games. Noir music (fanttastic jazz flavored stuff from Marty O'Donnell) and dark atmosphere is unique in the Halo series. No Firefight is a letdown but can't gripe about free. Very much looking forward to this game.
What he said. :-) I loved everything about ODST except the grenade trajectory.
If it's still possible to download/look at saved ODST games and pics on the 360, try to get those I have on my account.
The two biggest hardest to get game achievments - I have a 4-player Endure FF game and the 4-player Highway campaign mission on Legendary with iron skull set - no hogs or Scorpians. Great times.
ODST campaign is awesome. Very unique feel.
Looking forward to it. I have not played ODST campaign for a very long time.
Loved the ODST campaign. Even ran a couple of missions on Mythic (SLASO) difficulty. Was 2 seconds off a world record speed run on one and didn't even know it. Btw, it is May -- has this dropped yet? I haven't been on MCC in quite awhile.

I liked the ODST campaign alot. What is the cut-off date for getting it free?
They should give it to everyone, even those that picked up xbone xmas '14 (me). Just to acknowledge that MCC is still a bit broken.
Apparently they took down that link in my previous post stating that the May 29th date was simply a placeholder date and no definitive date has been set. Sorry Achy.
As for Kenj, to qualify for receiving ODST free, you had to have played “Halo: The Master Chief Collection” between Nov. 11, 2014 and Dec. 19, 2014.

ODST is out. Woke up this morning to a code in my inbox.
Same. Phone woke me up at 4:15am that I had a new Xbox live message, which contained the code.
No code email for me.
Correction. Got code in XBL message from Microsoft.

Like Achy, I got the code in an XBL message. Looked at Remnant today. It looks okay. I'll download ODST tomorrow when I'm no longer on call for work.

I've played most of the campaign missions. I think the Data Hive is next. Plays well. No glitches no freezes. I don't remember Buck yelling/whining so much when he gets hit with enemy fire though.... It's a little embarassing...
I wonder if the game achievement (Legendary Highway 4-xbl players with Iron skull) is still in the game? That was a lot of fun when I finally did it a couple of years ago.
