I raced three different configs at E3: a day lap in the Ford GT at Rio, a wet lap at Brands Hatch in an Audi TT, and a night lap at Sebring in a Lamborghini Huracan. It was a lot more polished that the Forza 5 demo they sent with that traveling XB1 party truck that stopped over in Deep Ellum before the launch. I really had to baby the TT in the rain, but the physics felt solid.

I had a chance to play the FM6 demo a few times at Comic Con.  No matter how gingerly I drove, I'd always hydroplane at Westfield and slide off the track. Wet racing will definitley be a challenge.  I wonder if there will be a rain compound in FM6?

Normally I race from the hood view but I found I would keep the interior view for the night race. I also was amazed how dark it gets.

During my race at Rio I kissed a tire barrier with the back of my car exiting one of the sharper corners. As I sped off I could see the tires bouncing off of the AI cars behind me.  I made me wonder if the griefers and timmies will have a new weapon at their disposal if those tires actually have some weight in the physics model. In a public lobby damage would be off but hiting a tire would affect your speed and handling.

The game looks and drives great, but that's always been T10's strength.  It's the features beyond the driving model that they seem to struggle with.

I've been poking around in FM3 the last couple of weeks trying to finish the career races.  I forgot how well the filtering options worked when buying a new car or searching my garage.  I also wish they'd go back to the tuning sliders of FM3 where the left stick would move the sliders very quickly and then use the D Pad to make the fine adjustments. So much easier to use than the progressively increasing speed sliders they have now.

Jones, were you using a wheel or controller?  How did they feel as far as FFB, vibration, etc.?

Controller: that's how I'm going to play the game when it comes out....that plus the line for the sit-down arcade style was super long. All the XB1 games at the show were using the new controller with the trigger locks underneath...I guess you could lock the cars full throttle if you wanted to. It felt like a finished product to me; at least it vibrated in the right places.

Hey guys

I hope all is well with you all.  Ci have a couple questions for you regarding FM6

Aside from night and rain options, is there any word on any of the forza 4 capability (acution House, clubs, etc) making its way to FM6?  I hope to have a XB1 sometime in October/November timeframe and could be back racing with you all from time to time.

Thanks in advance

Grim,

Feature details are still sparse.  As far as I know...

No Auction House.

No Storefront.  They're sticking with the sharefront concept they debuted in Forza 5 but with an improvement so content creators can more easily keep track of what they've shared.  No word if that improvement extends to users that want to see all of a players creations like FM4.

No clubs.

Thanks for the info shaggy.

After thinking it over and now having 2 games on XB1 and the fact that Fanatec has come out with a single wheel and base that will work on the ps4/ps3/xb1 and PC, Ive place my order for the CSW V2 with the xb1 hub.  Should have around 8/31 and will get the console when fm6 comes out along with a copy of pcars for xb1.

Looking forward to racing with you folks once again

MUCH to my delight and a month earlier than anticipated Parcells just received notice that the above equipment is en-route to Halifax Nova Scotia. Historically takes 2 weeks from California to Canada (USPS) but so much better than an October delivery that I was prepared for.

Giddy Up! Yippee!!!

Placed my order 3-4 months ago but was always scheduled to depart 8/31 like yours. Wheels is in the same boat as me and his was also shipped this week.

And this morning my parcel left Montreal so definitely quicker than 2 weeks, should be here Tuesday/Wednesday and I'm just starting a 2 week vacation, awesome!

Officially everything arrived yesterday but in reality I picked the balance up today after golf (Have to pick up at post office because of Canadian taxes – Fanatec saved me well here, paid less than half what I should have). The wheel base arrived last Wednesday and I couldn’t figure out why I had 3 tracking numbers but it turns out the rim was packaged separately from the universal hub both which arrived yesterday.

By the looks of the hub box I was expecting significant assembly crap but turns out there was none….awesome! Took my time but still opened three packages and assembled them all to my stand in less than an hour. As I look back on what I accomplished it boils down to connecting a few cables and 14 screws LOL, I really took my time it seems. 6 screws to attach the wheel to the hub, 4 unscrews to release my Elite wheel from my wheel stand and the same 4 to screw back in the new wheel(base with adapter, came with it had no idea but great)

I’ll let you know how it feels but for now all I’ve done is assembly. Tonight and/or tomorrow will be the first tests assuming it works still haven’t turned it on. Don’t get me wrong I’m very excited but an overall impression is I paid a lot of money for very little “stuff” guessing a lot because of #1 general observation below even though I was expecting that.

  1. Other than vents in the front(opposite the wheel end) for a fan the base is virtually identical to my Elite wheel base. There’s that vent and no Xbox button because that’s on the universal hub now, other than those the base is virtually identical to the Elite base in size, bolt configuration and everything, the start button has a different design, better color (black) including a tinted window to the insides of the technology vs. the clear window red body style of the Elite.
  2. I bought the GT3 rim and as soon as I opened the box I initially thought “is this it?” it’s a fucken rim for christ sake that’s all!!! But when I put it in my hands I had a big smile, exact same style as my Elite which I love, feels great (coating) and clearly bigger than the Elite in diameter or that’s what I thought, it was only an inch more in diameter but it feels significantly bigger can’t wait to test it. I’ve never raced for real before (Karts aside) but this feels like the right size for real racing and is definitely not a toy. This thing is solid.
  3. The quick release to the base is really cool!
  4. Almost positive I’ll want to move the paddle shifters in a bit which involves more than a couple delicate screws so I’m thinking I’ll test it out first (cause this update is becoming way too long winded) then utilize the quick release function to more easily transition the paddle shifters…in the morning when my eyes are better, about to gather my 5th or 6th beer when I hit post it in 10 seconds.

Parcells...Mine is still in the box...Waiting for Parcells to come off of vacation..lol..Looking forward to hooking it up with the V3 pedals....Any tips on settings that you may have tried or settled on?

P.(arcell)S...Getting ready to trigger up on the PS4 with Project Cars....Reading about PS5 with Ultra High Resolution possibilities..Slated maybe 2017 but if I get a whiff of 2016 I might just hold off on the PS4 and get the PS5 with hopefully GT7 with Super High Res and better sound on the cars. Surprisingly my ass is still chafed on Forza 6 and Xboner One. Heavy lean towards PlayStation.

I just purchased Main Performance pedals should have them by Monday. Will be selling modded G27 pedals with Perfect Pedal mod and Bodnar cable. Not sure how much I should sell them for.

Just preordered the game. Can't wait! This is one of the main reason I went back to Xbox.

Not necessarily the final verdict but the initial verdict is in and I’m happy to report the V2 base and universal hub wheel have delivered what Parcells was expecting. Have put in maybe 10 hours on GT6 and a couple hours playing around with PCars.

Overall impression is I now have a wheel that is of better quality with much more strength over my Elite wheel which I consider to be a top notch wheel and was very happy with. I suppose the major question is “was it worth it?” and I believe the short and honest answer to that is NO. I feel this way because…

  1. My Elite wheel was awesome, this wheel better quality etc. but I’m not convinced (yet) that I’m feeling more feedback from the game over my previous wheel and extra strength FFB was not a huge deal to me as I keep this rather low most times. If I was upgrading from my previous Turbo S wheel (I would assume the same from a standard CSR wheel) I’m sure I would feel differently as this wheel is significantly better than the Turbo S as was the Elite wheel.
  2. Overall costs….very expensive for such a minimal “improvement” in my view.

That aside, I do not regret the purchase even if FM6 turns out to be a flop which I’m hoping it will not be as acquiring an XOne compatible wheel  was one of the biggest factors in making this purchase. So in that regard, if FM6 sucks Parcells will not be very pleased but so be it.

So the huge improvements are 1) stronger FFB and 2) a real racing rim. The rim is only 1” bigger in diameter over the Elite wheel but it is 100% solid and that extra inch makes all the difference in the World. To this point it is quite a different feeling (takes some getting used to) but it just feels so much more real it’s pure joy!

When I first played GT6 it was very obvious I had to turn down the FFB to get where I was used to with my Elite wheel, no surprise there but PCars seemed odd because when I first drove that game it felt like I was floating on the road and the FFB was basically inert. Could be a problem with my latest driver because unless I put the game’s main FFB setting to 100% it didn’t seem like the game was providing the right amount of friction even at 95%. Definitely seemed odd but not a big deal just set the game FFB to 100% and turn down the wheel’s FFB setting then you can set each cars FFB to the overall strength you want as different cars provide different strengths of friction. I suspect with lots of tweaking you can make this wheel come alive playing PCars but within an hour I had things set up plenty well for Parcells liking.

Pure speculation on my part (haven’t tried yet) but I’m guessing you will want to be extra careful in configuring the universal hub to your liking. Talking about the configurable buttons and paddle shifters…Pretty sure I want to place my paddles shifters closer to the wheel rim  and inset more towards the middle of the hub but the screws for all these configurable items are so damn small I worry about stripping the threads.

On a completely different note I’m pretty sure my default brake bias in GT6 has been wrong for well over a year now…no wonder I have to apply brakes sooner than just about everyone I race with, what a moron!

Parcells, why don't you buy Forza 5 and really test this wheel out?  You can get the game of the year edition for $30 on amazon.  Running this high end, expensive wheel primarily on GT6 is kind of like buying a Porsche and never going more the 55 miles per hour.  Also, the criticism of Forza 5 in these forums in missplaced and comes largely from folks that have never played the game.  Forza 5 is an outstanding racing game, even though it lacks some of the features from earlier Forza games.  Keep in mind it also has some features, cars and tracks that are new to the Forza franchise (F1 car, drivatars, Bathurst, Spa, etc.)

Also, Forza 6 simply cannot suck, so long as it keeps the FFB and physics from Forza 5 and Forza Horizon 2, which is a virtual certainty.  We already know that the car and track list is kick ass, as is the new online league function.  Only question for me is how the night and wet racing compares to Project CARS.

I just received my tracking number for the CSW V2 and universal XB1 hub and will be getting the console and FM6 at release.  Until then I will continue to play pCARS on the PS4.  So looking forward to racing with you guys once again.

Good points Craig I should definitely pre-order FM6 for extra whatever. Summer running down, Florida golf trip in a few weeks Parcells has little time for racing at the moment. FM6 and testing the wheel on the XOne will have to wait until October, sorry to disappoint you :)
