Chat monitoring in +June 2015 Microsoft XB1 controllers
Now, for the singlular cost of one new XB1 controller, you get a 3.5 mm jack with full stereo sound for your headset plus chat monitoring. It's the missing component for people who yell a lot.
The stereo sound seems perfectly fine and the chat monitor is very welcome for those of us with premium over ear headsets.
The downsides are not insignificant.
1. The only place to change audio settings is in the XB1/Settings/Devices/controller menu.
2. Use of existing stereo headset adapter to circumvent No 1, removes the chat feedback.
3. No fingertip mic muting.
Keep your eyes peeled for sales on legacy controllers.
I see no reason you couldn't use any controller wire that has an inline mute, like the old 360 headsets.
except those will be phased out? I guess PS4 headsets will work?
I'm confident MS will come up with a reasonable menu solution. All it takes are more complaints. After all, they did add chat monitoring and the price was essentially free for anyone getting a new system or replacing a broken controller.
