Luke Smith tweeted that "Only year 2 legendaries will dismantle into legendary marks. Year 1 legendaries shard into whatever they shard into right now.". So using up your marks now isn't going to get you much. I'm maxed but will hold onto them for the rep gain.

Haven't heard explicitly, but I wouldn't expect any year 1 packages to decrypt into new TTK stuff.

They won't.  The decoding thing is a bit of a bait and switch.  When the engram drops, its already known to the game/Cryptarch what the result is.

Yeah, packages I have now may not decrypt to "new" stuff, but the drops are so bad I figure I don't have much to lose by just leaving it with the postmaster.

Sounds good so far.  I heard they are adding the whip, ney ney and stanky leg to the dance moves.

I'm not big on cosmetic stuff, but if I could twerk, do the Carlton, cabbage patch, and C-walk, I'd pay for that.

Oh yeah, I'd take those for sure!

They might as well create a standalone Dance Moves package. Add in the Wobble, Cupid Shuffle and Electric Slide and we're onto something.

You guys are talking another language. New moves are good though.

From Game Informer interview with Bungie's Luke Smith

Quote:
But player gear is still very significant in measuring each player's power. Do you still see raids as the gateway to gaining the best gear as it was in the past? We believe the highest gear level is a little less important to the game now. We hope that players see their light level as a tool that allows them to climb the mountain they want to climb in the way that's most interesting to them. If they look at a raid and they see it's recommended light level is 280, then we want them to think, 'I want to get my light to 280, so I can climb this mountain in front of me.' In the same way, we want players to look at the PvP activities they want to do and say, 'I want to get there, so I can go into that activity and have a great time.' Post-launch, we've created a bunch of ways for players to chase progression, chase creativity, and look how they want to look. That's all stuff we want to carry forward. But the gear you have is just a tool to reaching those activities and not the end goal.

If Bungie is as good as their word, I like where they are going because that's where I want to be. Carrying armour and weapons of choice to get the job done and not Raid or other activity specific gear. It's okay that specific activities have unique gear to acquire but not if success in that activity is dependent on that gear.

So I expect to be wearing the style, colours and badging of my gear of choice going forward. I get annoyed if I'm being forced to change my underwear all the time.

More big changes on the way:

Luke Smith: In our Strike the Dreadnaught reveal earlier this week, we showed some and told some about how we wanted Strikes to move forward into Year 2.
  • Strike replayability is augmented by variability.
  • Bosses with more interested combat phases and less vitality.
  • Strike-specific rewards.
    • E.g., Armor drops that look like trophies from the Strike boss
    • E.g., weapons that only drop from certain Strikes

But those aren't the only changes coming to Strikes. We've also looked at the programming/Strike playlists and made some changes there, too.

Nightfall
Our desired Nightfall experience is the weekly ritual where you get together with your friends for a test of thumbskill and allow players to optimize for gear.

Burn skulls motivate weapon rotation and now the Burn resist talents found on chest pieces will rotate armor.

The death penalty of being kicked to orbit often leads to players feeling forced to play too safe, rather than running through the world as a monster killing machine.

Another thing we didn't like about the Year 1 Nightfall was how players could feel forced to play Nightfall as early as possible in the week to maximize the benefit from the Nightfall buff. So, we've shelved that buff until we can reform it into something closer to its original intent - a mark of prestige for having achieved something challenging. We've adjusted sources of XP and Reputation up to account for its absence.
  • Now Requires Level 40
  • Wiping no longer returns Fireteams to Orbit
  • Now uses 30 second time-out penalty for Death (same as Raid Normal)

Weekly Heroic Strikes
We've removed a dedicated Weekly Heroic Strike from the game this Fall. In its place we've added a new playlist: the Vanguard Heroic Playlist.

Each week players receive bonus Legendary Marks from the Weekly Heroic Playlist. These awards are received at the Account level rather than the character level - as was the case with Year One Weekly Heroic Rewards.

We made this change to enable players to focus on a single character more, or feel less pressure to gear three characters at once for Legendary Marks.
  • Requires Level 40
  • Removed the Weekly Heroic Strikes
  • Instead, accounts receive Legendary Marks for completing the first three Weekly Strikes
  • Removed the Weekly Cap on how many Legendary Marks can be earned.
  • Guarantee a Legendary Engram drop from a character's first clear of a Weekly Heroic Strike

Weekly PVP Ritual
Nightfall was built as a ritual experience for groups of three players in PVE. In Year 1, we didn't have a good weekly ritual experience for PVP players.

Once players have completed the PVP Intro chain on Lord Shaxx, they receive access to the Weekly PVP quests on Lord Shaxx and the PVP Quartermaster.

Each week, Lord Shaxx has a Bounty called "The True Meaning of War." Completing this Bounty each week (which requires completing the PVP weeklies) grants players Nightfall tier rewards.

Daily Heroic/Daily PVP
It's important to us that Destiny remain compatible with real life. Playing multiple characters can sometimes feel like a job or a chore, the Daily Heroic and Daily PVP often felt that way. So we increased their rewards and made them an account completion. We want players to choose which characters they want to play on and earn Legendary Marks on.

They all look like good changes to me. Especially the potential fix to the cowering in one location during Nightfall Strikes issue. NF may still be very difficult but at least time won't be wasted going to orbit.

This is mostly new to me, so thanks for the post! I like these changes, since I am always more or less time constrained. I think these new changes should ease the struggle between playing purely for enjoyment versus optimal character advancement.

The "requires level 40" is a bit of a concern for NF and the weekly strikes since information to date doesn't quite provide a road map on how one levels up -- or did I miss something?

Leveling up seems to be accomplished from just about every activity. I suspect most of us will be starting out in the mid thirties and by the time we finish the Story missions, we'll be 40. About a week or less I'd say.

If you have a level 34 guardian, you'll be level 34 at the start of TTK. Bungie has stated you don't even need to have your level 34 gear equipped because the system will evaluate your equipped gear, inventory gear and vault gear and start your character(s) at the level appropriate to what you've accumulated and leveled-up.

In other words if I leave my Hunter at 33 on the launch of TTK, but I have the leveled gear in my inventory or vault that brings my character to 34, then I'll start as a 34.

Bump.

I expect most people will be 34 right out of the gate.

Some Exotic armour will allow shaders soon.

TTK/2.0: Many (not all!) pieces of Exotic Armor will accept color from Shaders. Helm of St. 14 w/Revenant looks sweet. St.14 returns for Y2

Has anyone successfully pre-ordered the $39.99 US Digital Download Taken King for _both_ XB1 and XB360? If so, how did you do it? I've successfully done so for XB1 but I can't seem to be able to purchase it also for the 360. All I see when logged into XBox Live on my PC is "already purchased" -- I know that! I want to also purchase it also for the 360! And I can't seem to purchase it directly to the 360 while logged onto the 360.

I found the the $39.99 digital download for the 360 on bungie.net.  Select pre-order under Destiny, then digital download.  On that screen you have a choice of platforms, including the 360.
