Nightfall tips
This week's NF is the shank boss in Rasputin's lab, which is the hardest strike I've done in TTK. We beat him last evening after wondering whether we could... To help make this week's NF challenging, there's the "trickle" (supers build slowly) and void burn modifiers.
One or more bubble Titans are important, both to get past the oh so fun Warsat sequence in the beginning and especially at the really busy boss shank fight. I was a Sunsinger, and it came in handy a time or two.
I tried a year-one Atheon's Epilogue at 170, but it wouldn't touch the enemies. I settled on using a kinetic scout primary - Boolean Gemini, a void shotgun/fusion and a void machine gun - all of them as high an impact value as I had (~280-290). Rockets can't be used in the shank fight (too close).
Begin the shank fight with supers up, full heavy ammo and a synth ready. Pop a bubble when he emerges from the floor hatch, then all of you pour on machine gun fire when he begins taking damage. He goes down about as fast as the Servitor god in PoE does in a Gjallarhorn swarm. Do it fast, cuz the room begins filling with bad stuff as time passes.
On edit... The Shank can shoot through a bubble. We set up shop on the far wall behind the cylinder (near the smokey pool). The cylinder provides some cover. The bubble keeps you safer from all the ads and gives you blessing of light.
Did somebody call for me?
Looks like it!
Turns out, the opening fight at the Warsat can be cheesed by riding your sparrow into a map defect in a rock, which then lets you go below the surface. You can then start the Warsat timer, and the other 2 players can go hide... The enemies can't shoot you. We did this strike last night while running some heroic strikes... A random who dropped in with us cheesed the opening and found a way to beat us to the boss fight room. He had just 4 kills the whole game. Apparently, you can fit between layers of the map and wind up at the boss fight. I don't like cheesing it to that extent. Daughter and I did the whole strike legit without him.
Well ... so much for soloing Nightfall for awhile. Holy crap, didn't last 10 seconds after the First dropship came in.
Take a couple of Titans with bubbles set up to generate orbs. Use your best void machine guns and void specials (shotguns/fusions). The ship is the worst of it, but try to stay in/behind a bubble or behind the warsat. Bubbles are really helpful at the end fight too. Or squeeze into that rock.... :)
You'll reach a checkpoint when you clear the warsat fight. No more going back to orbit when the team wipes.
One other point from this mission is that you can shoot the guns off the ship to make things much easier (or at least more manageable).
I spent an hour or more solo in the Undying Mind. Not too difficult to get to the Boss.
I could not find a solo strategy to beat the Boss. The Ads make it unbearable. The only hiding spot I could find would eventually suffer so much bombardment your shields won't hold out.
Are you doing the special version that you get as part of a quest where you have to kill a certain vex? I need that one too - haven't tried it yet.
OK. I'm talking about a different quest that is specific to the Undying Mind strike.
Yeah, the one you are doing is for any Nightfall.
Darth,, I need to do this one too. The special Vex has to be killed quickly before the other Vex kill it.
Wish I could have joined you last night, but after a really long day I realized I hadn't had dinner yet and was shutting down just as you were messaging me. When I am on I am up for that anytime.
Did this week's NF - the brothers on the Dreadnaught. No burn, and it seemed to only be about as difficult as the Heroic strike we've been doing. I used a scout, Invective, and a tracking arc rocket (only new tracker I have). The number of shielded enemies seemed to be about the same. One of the modifiers adds weight to matching shield color - penalty for not. The usual number of Centurions are solar shielded. The Invective did a good job.
Tried it last night and we almost had it done and we all got kicked to orbit >_<
Can someone tell me the point of Nightfalls now? The last three times I have run one, I received no reward but a normal legendary that you can get from a normal heroic strike. And in the heroics you at least get marks. Maybe I am missing something, but I dont see the point anymore.
Yeah, Bungie has kind of screwed Nightfall right now. Since they removed the Radiant Light buff and the huge rep gain from completion, I don't see the point. Perhaps a higher chance of an exotic drop, but I'm having decent luck simply using my Three of Coins.
I hope they will be addressing the Nightfall soon.
I don't see the point either except as practice for the raid in that difficulty level is substantially increased and team work and team roles are definitely required. Other than that it is like banging your head on the table for nothing. As for drops, the Nine of Coins has gotten me an exotic AR, an exotic Sniper (that sounds really cool), and several Helms, including the Saint 14 for my Titan when decrypted. I got the sniper last night in the Daily Heroic Mission.
Agree, I just don't really see much point in doing NF any more. The drops just have not been that great and there is so much else to do.
I'd honestly be willing to keep doing it just to get the blue fire on my head even without any XP buff, but as it stands now I think I'm done with NF.
