Hy! this is the guy who friended you 5 months ago, anyway I'm trying to get more involved in this clan. I'm 54 and really only play destiny....allot actually, I should get a life! I want to do the raid tonight or sometime today. I just started doing it yesterday, and made it to gauntlets. And was booted after we wiped 4 times, by some kids in a clan, who all where dieng over and over when I wasn't dieng at all. Anyway I really would like to play with some Old folks.
I started following you.  :)

Hey, Texas1step! Thanks for posting! We have a full raid group, but I recommend posting in the "Interested in a regular raid group on Fridays from 9-11pm Eastern?" thread. We're trying get a second group formed hosted by Krak64 ("Hemihuman" on the website). Also go to bungie and look up 2old2play primordials if you want to be in our clan.

So you are, and sorry for the confusion! Let me explain: Since the main "The 2old2play Community" Destiny clan has reached its population limit, Deep NNN formed an affiliated Destiny clan for over-50s named "2old2play Primordials." You can join if you want, but you're under no obligation.

Finished the Castleum Axes in fairly short order. The Guantlet is amazingly difficult for our rabble. After several iterations I got to run with the orb only to find out I might be too colour blind to call the circle positions. Holy hell!

IMHO that is the most annoying encounter in all of Destiny. First, I suck at supermario jump crap. Second, there is a reason that the phrase "jumping through hoops" is used to describe annoying and overly complicated procedures. And that whole encounter is literally jumping through hoops. I dislike it strongly. ;)

Finished the Castleum again and spent an hour training in the Gauntlet. We actually managed to spawn the buff inside the gauntlet a couple of times. Getting better. Power levels will have to reach +300 before our group starts finding the Raid easier.

I'm on all the time and would like to try the raid or nightfall strikes. I tried the nightfall with a couple of guides and they died all the time, one of them eventually quitting. I'm not very good at pvp but can hold my own in pve. Power level 300 Voidwalker. Look for me on the clan list in the game. Gamertag Honest AK.

I'm always wanting another NF run, and I think we're at the point where we have a bunch of players who want NF runs. Give us a poke when you're on, Metal Storm.

This is probably the simplest Gauntlet method I've seen. Probably the best for old guys. The who shoots at what and the final run needs more discussion.

Well, fuck Bungie and I don't even care if they were at fault. We organized on the idea the weekly Raid reset was cyclical. It appears to be random. We sort of prepared for Royal Pools and got Pleasure Gardens instead.

Castellum went down pretty good. Then the dogs had us for breakfast. Some definite progress made though.

Any tips on how to get good damage on the dogs? I was running arc hunter and using a persistent grenade, the sword whose damage is supposed to increase with rapid swings (did not notice the increase though), and even my super when I had it. And of course primary and energy weapons when heavy was dry, which was often. My power level was about the same as Cha0s's but I was doing a quarter to a little better than half of his damage. Obviously I am missing something.

You can only compare if you and Chaos are running the exact same set-up - weapons, class/subclass, etc.

I know I've been able to kill a dog in one damage phase with a couple of different loadouts. Stormcaller, Damage Rift, Pulse grenade and Merciless. Nova bomb (with the lingering damage field), Damage Rift, Hawthorne's shotty. We had either 3 or 4 damage stacks.

Swords might be too slow. I don't know since I've not tried them. I would recommend using Merciless or Hawthorne's full auto shotgun.

That's all the info I can offer from my limited playtime in the raid.

Was going to use Merciless, but I've been getting all kinds of infusion material except fusion rifles lately, so my Merciless is way too merciful.

Based on the videos and walkthroughs, damage stacks are everything. 2 stacks are as far as we ever got. Chaos likely has the timing down well enough to get as much damage as he got with 2 stacks. I usually left before his countdown was done to get away from the swarming little dogs. If we ever make it to 4 or more stacks, in theory we should be able to take out the big dogs in one damage phase. (If ...)

In theory the dogs' movements can also be timed to avoid encounters, but wow is that tough to execute! (at least in my age demographic!)

We are making progress. The Pleasure Garden dogs are starting to feel some of our wrath. Managed to get at least 3 flowers in on one trip. For myself, I actually had to be careful not to kill a dog too soon.

Ran the raid last night with pals from the Abandoned Clan. At the Pleasure Garden, we named the flowers L1, L2, L3, R1, R2, R3, Tree, and Rocks. L1 and R1 closest to the base then moving out.  Tree and Rocks in the middle (they are landmarks).  Take another look at the map link that Duke provided and the picture becomes a bit clearer.  We would start with the flower closest to the base -- generally L1 or R1 and found that moving from left to right or left to middle we could go thru or to the base.  Moving from right to left or right to middle we would move thru the middle.

Also each member was assigned a "dog" flower -- where the dogs would go to howl.  The ideal method would be to get 4 stacks (48 power) then break to the assigned dog flower, melt them down to a sliver, haul it for the base then rinse and repeat, taking the dogs out on the second pas. Note that once discovered one has 20 seconds or so to do all that.  This method was used even if we couldn't get all 4 stacks.  3 stacks seemed to get enough damage to get things done in 2 passes.  Merciless was used by most of us and seemed to melt the dogs pretty quickly.

Obviously this takes some practice both for getting the buffs and getting to the dogs.  We were running with two of our fire team never having raided before so it took a little bit of "practice" to get thru this, but we got it done which we had to because it was first in the rotation (dammit).  Hope that helps.

That is pretty much what we do too. Two of our party hadn't experienced it so a good 20min is spent on training. I have very good results with Hawthorne's shotgun. People could see that and some were switching.

Merciless or Hawthorne's are really good on the dogs. Achy's idea of traversing from side-to-side through the middle is a good one as it saves time and possibly being caught by certain dogs.

Having a good leader on the ground is also a big part of this to help guide people around the areas. I would encourage people to try the different roles of using the prism or running on the ground team. Running the Prism can really help you with understanding how the room is laid out and what zones are "safe".

Also, we did get a couple of Raid weapon drops last night. I got the raid rocket launcher, Sins of the Past, and it's a beast - huge blast radius, cluster bombs and auto-reloading holster.

Congrats on getting it done, Achy and Darth! And thanks for the additional tips. Every added detail helps.

Should have our usual crew again tonight -- thanks to Hemi (Tuesday & Friday) and Wulleymammoth (Tuesday) for alt-ing last week!

Raid rotation this week, according to Destiny Reddit and other sources:

Baths > Gauntlet > Dogs > Calus

We took a bath. sad

On the very positive side, we were getting the hang of it to the point we got to shoot at lanterns twice at the very end.

Thanks go to Cha0s QC for his continued patience. smiley

Took another bath but this time Adem West and Agent joined us for their first trip to the pool.

Got to shoot at the lanterns once.

Chat is always hellish to set up and blows a ton of time.

Well, there is always Fri. laugh

We did really well at the Castellum Axes.

Lots more training and some of it is sticking. I gave up being runner to Duke when my colour blindness seemed suspect. We then learned it wasn't colour blindness at all but rather it was an unattended plate.

I'm almost at the point of finding it unbelievable that the first teams through the raid did it without help from Bungie.

I think the thing about these "world's first" raid groups is that you have all of these streamer communities where people are watching various streams and passing information around as small bits and pieces are worked out. So, instead of six people sitting around trying to work out the details, you will have literally thousands of people working on these encounters at the same time.

So true. I'd forgotten about that aspect.

Also, who's to say Bungie employees might not be hanging out in various streams to help when people get stuck too...lol

Forgot to talk about the weird glitch that hit us. We all died and were stuck at the "waiting to respawn" screen. So we cracked our heads on that and decided to kick Cha0s to orbit. It worked and we respawned but it continued to happen after each wipe. Called it a night.

Glitchiness abounds.

One of our runners died in the Gauntlet last night and after he revived we were unable to activate the plates to start the next round of the encounter. Had to wipe and restart. This happened maybe three times in a row and then magically seemed to clear itself up.
