Solstice of Heroes. More of the power down/power up cycle all too common in this game. I avoid joining a Faction until I get some of the weekly stuff done. Renown's effect of reducing power is a pain in the ass for a whole week. I want the Sunshot catalyst but I have to join this power level bullshit to get it. It makes me wonder how painful Solstice of Heroes will be.
I used to want to play Destiny everyday. Not anymore.
Yeah, periodically making you weak again is part of the whole RPG thing that Destiny has going on. I happen to like it, because running around like a frightened mouse at the beginning of RPGs, when everything is a lethal threat, is always my favorite part. I thought the quick renown-based power cycle was an interesting twist on the old formula. But you have to enjoy adapting to the power changes, I guess.
The Crimson exotic hand cannon helps you to regain health when you have reknown, so that's what I generally use to farm faction tokens. Using a Warlock with healing rift can also help.
The faction rallies are just too rushed for most players that don't have the time (or desire) to grind out 50 ranks in one week. I have done the Graviton Lance and Sunshot so I'm good to go. I have no real interest in the New Monarchy stuff, so I"ll probably skip the grind this time.
I don't mind the Renown system too much, but it can get annoying when you are just trying to play and not grind Lost Sectors. Why not tie the renown system to the emblem? Basically if you want to gain Renown, equip the emblem.
Overall, though I am feeling encouraged with the direction of the game. Forsaken seems like it will be a really nice update and I hope will bring many people back to wanting to play D2 on a more regular basis.
Grav lance and sunshot? Wow. I would like to get even one of those some day. I'm told they will stick around after the fall expansion, so maybe there is hope. That's the other thing about an event like the faction rallies. How much fun it is most certainly depends on how much you play it. I haven't been able to play much, so it's still fresh and fun for me. If I ground out 50 ranks in a week, I might feel very differently.
Oh, and I think you might be on to something with the idea of tying renown to the emblem. I wonder if Bungie would consider that. As it is, I guess you could shed unwanted renown by fast traveling somewhere, but that does seem like a pain.
Last faction rally, I went most of the week before pledging. I was working on weapon quests and Renown would have killed my desire to play. The downside is seeing 3 waypoints in the tower all the time. This time I waited a day and I'm almost to 50 with FWC. Having catalysts tied to a faction is bullshit. I don't want to switch allegiances just because shithead Bungie forces me to. Fuckers!
I finished the Sunshot's Faction grind! It was getting near intolerable at the end. Mind numbingly boring. I'm so glad that part is over. Now I will wait until next week to do the Catalyst grind with normal power levels. Power levels that I had to grind to earn. Power levels that shitty Bungie just rips from you, as a big joke, while you grind away at the next bauble.
You seem to be doing better than I am, for all the complaining. I am squirreling away FWC tokens in hopes that the Sunshot catalyst comes back next season. If it comes back, but is offered by a different faction, I will be sad.

Sorry, I'm turning into 'that guy'. Not ready to competely walk away from the game yet the game keeps disappointing me to the point I openly complain.
I think Bungie may sink these Catalysts into a different grind come September. Something enjoyable?
Actually, you're probably right. If so, I'll just put my pile of faction tokens in the dumpster with all the other ones I've accumulated but haven't turned in because the juice didn't seem worth the squeeze. I'm hopeful that progression will be more motivating in the expansion.
Wow! I'd like to try to get that gun, but it will require a good team. The Black Spindle mission was the thing I most regret never mastering in Destiny 1.
Someone careless left a portal open on Io when I spawned in this morning, so I took a little tour. After some help from Datto's video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRewTTLRkYk), I found the platforming section and got as far as a blind jump which stymied me until my timer elapsed and I got kicked out. I did die a few times on the part of the platform run that I did, but respawn locations and times were generous. It's the Taken that worry me, not the platforming.

The portal is easy to open. I got as far as these glowing ports that generally lead to a death drop. I killed 3 Taken. I'll have to watch further into the demo videos. 'So far', the jumping has been easy.
I've been into The Whisper 3 times now with a Fireteam. Unfortunately I have real problems on that first red wall area and get stuck for an inordinate amount of time. I finally catch up to the others in my Fireteam with 2-5 minutes left on the clock and we fail. I obviously need practice. I've never been particulary good at jump puzzles in the games, and this one is no different.
Overall, the enemies are tough, but it's doable with a full fireteam.
I am up to 75% on the Sunblast requirement for the Sunshpt Catalyst. There is a place on Nessus to farm kills and a chained event can occur. It works (sometimes) but you may well wait 15 min for it to not even start. Other people come along and ruin it, Renown can eff it up too. The Mars Adventure Hephatus (sp) is good if you remember to kill yourself before completition (groan). The most reliable method I found was starting Mars Hive public events, over and over. Leviathan requires a lot more shots.
I have now been into The Whisper with my Warlock and Hunter solo. I was easily able to get through the jumping with about 10-12 minutes left on the clock. I was then able to clear the first 3 rooms solo. I really struggle with the Titan for some reason, so I think Hunter will be easiest for me.
Wow, amazing! How close do you figure you are to the end? I haven't even been back in since my first time. Waiting around for the appropriate even to start is already too tough for me, I guess.
Glad read that some of you are still enjoying D2. These days I'm basically on for the Flashpoint on Tuesday late evenings with some casual fireteaming on Fridays. Pretty much lost my motivation otherwise. I'll probably reach 370 by September. Maybe. But I no longer find the game interesting. The various locations feel too small now and too repetitive (and I realize repetition is Bungie's style. But after nearly 4 years, I no longer care for it).
My prediction of +10 power increase over the next five weeks seems to have been optimistic. I managed +1 this week. I completed all the weeklies excepting Nightfall and Trials. Raids and Raid Lairs seem to be the source of greater power.
I ran a Prestige Nightfall for the first time this week. Turned out this almost makes it easier. With Void Burn and Heavyweight turned on, running a pair of voidwalkers and a tractor cannon made short work of the boss. It certianly was a quicker run than many of the Heroic strikes I've done.
And you potentially get a powerful drop at completeion and at Zavala for the milestone.
Lol. That's how I feel in 6v6 too. It's fine vs the hoi polloi during Iron Banner, but when I'm grinding out my weekly Cruicle engram, I feel like more of a hinderance than a help. And the end-game stats back up the feeling.
I have been going into Rumble for this weeks Crucible challenge. My K/D has either been 2.0 or 0.2. Depends on whether I get hooked up with Crucible try hards or regular players. I have been actually having pretty good luck in Quickplay.

Deep as a Warlock...I want to see that

I watched part of a video and I've never seen anyone move so fast as a Titan. Didn't even know it was possible.

It's nice that it's at least possible to practice the platforming section on your own, with no pressure.

In Quickplay 4v4, I was a shooting star. I was very pleased with my weapon choices and results. With 6v6 now the norm, I'm more of a flying turd.
I seem to be getting hit from the side more often.

Whenever I play, half the players are doing all the dying (my half). Bungie thinks there may be a matchmaking bug:

Saw that on Twitter as well.
