Wish I could have stayed on later last night. Will be on IO today trying to get into the mission to get the jumping down. I had major issues toward the end of the jumping puzzle but I think familiarity will solve that. Obviously the sooner into combat the better the chance to finish.
Update: Been able to practice a little and have gotten to combat now in 9 minutes which is a lot better than before but sitll can be improved. My last run I got thru the first room solo before time ran out. I will be around this evening if anyone is interested in running (or helping).
Ran a few more with Achy and Wulley last night. I'm really happy to have finally done some significant damage to one of the bosses (I'm told there are three). We got one down to about half twice, with incidental damage to the others. Furthermore, I'm starting to feel like I know what I'm doing in all of the earlier sections of the mission. There is light at the end of the tunnel! Might be more Taken spawning in, though.
Happy to help. I had some trouble jumping with the Hunter even with Stomp-EE5. Then I switched to my Warlock and that seemed a lot easier using Strafe Glide which is the jump I normally use because I can't seem to get the hang of Burst Glide for some reason. It would be nice to complete it with the Warlock since that seemed like the easiest class to jump with, at least for me. Then I could do heroic Whisper runs with the Warlock. I haven't done any chests, oracles, or heroic runs yet. Right now I can only do heroic runs with my Titan since that is the only one of my characters that has done it.
Same here. Wulley should be back on today, and he's been working on it fairly seriously. Did you figure out a good loadout for the new weapon slots? Wulley thinks it may have gotten a bit harder after the update. Was hoping for the opposite. :(
Appears there is a glitch where heavy ammo does not drop at all which will obviously make the older strats much more difficult. I did watch a solo run where the loadout was hand cannon/scout for kinetic, shotgun/scout for energy and whisper with the return to magazine perk (from Heroic?) active.
The runner recommended keeping heavy to end and going to Polaris Lance when heavy ran out. If no whisper, then DARCI recommended. It appeared that he used the shotgun a lot to take out the shielded red bars along the way and the scout(s) to take out the minors from distance.
The other thing I noticed was that in general energy weapons can use primary or special ammo. The problem is that if a weapon is equipped using primary and one switches to one using special, there is no special ammo for that weapon initially. One has to pick it up. Definitely makes one think before switching weapons and another thing that will potentially make the Whisper quest harder.
As for the heavy ammo not dropping, that is lighting up reddit and Bungie like crazy. Bungie says it is aware of the issue and is actively tracking it, whatever the eff that means.
I may try the shotgun/scout/DARCI loadout today. I should be on sometime this afternoon.
^^ well that didn't work. Hopefully this heavy ammo glitch will be fixed soon. Just another eff up by Bungie.
Missed you yesterday, Achy. Wulley and I did a couple of two-man practice runs and barely got to the boss room before we were kicked out. Felt slightly more difficult than before, mostly because I seemed to be taking more damage. Not sure what the cause was. I'd like to try again after we bump up in power with Forsaken.
I would think running 2 man and getting no heavy drops would certainly make things more difficult. I spent a lot of time during the day breaking down 2 home theatre systems and bagging the cabling and extra parts (there are many). I was able to jump on for a bit last night but you were just getting off. Running hand cannon/shotgun/DARCI definitely was problematic.
This heavy ammo glitch is just another example of poor QA from Bungie. Wonder how many more glitches will appear tomorrow when Forsaken drops.
You will need long range weapons for sure. I don't think shotguns will work. Primaries with kill clip like Positive Outlook or Inaugural Address should be good and they don't use special ammo. Then it should be fine to switch to Polaris Lance, if needed. What's weird is that a lot of energy weapons use the white primary ammo now, so that takes some getting used to.
We are getting lots of new stuff today with Forsaken, so who knows what will emerge as the best weapons. It will be interesting to see. It seems like every new expansion has some game-breaking items in order to get players to buy it.
Krak, Wulley, and I got thru the mission with seconds to spare (whew). Of course they both had the Whisper. I used my Sleeper, arc scout, and a couple of arc supers in the boss room. Still no heavy dropping.
From what I have seen of the new Scourge of the Past raid, there appears to be a lot of long-range shooting involved and Whisper of the Worm will be the power weapon of choice for that. I don't have the Whisper catalyst yet, so it would be very helpful to get it. I'm looking to do some Heroic Whisper runs in the next few weeks in order to get the catalyst and complete it. Is anyone else here interested in doing some Heroic Whisper runs?
Is that when you do a strike and boast about yourself a lot, but do it real quietly?

Obviously, we won't be able to masterwork the Whisper right away. It will take at least 3 weeks to complete the catalyst. The most important thing is just to get that first Heroic Whisper completion in order to get the catalyst so you can start working on it. The sooner we get the catalyst, the sooner we can complete it. My understanding is that you really only need to do the Heroic run once since after that you can just open chests each weekend to make progress on the catalyst, but it will take a bit longer without doing any more Heroic completions. I wish I had gotten the catalyst a long time ago, and then I would be done with it by now. Oh well.
I signed up for my first 'Scourge of the Past' raid attempt tomorrow, so I'm thinking about what my loadout will be for that. There is a lot of long-range shooting from what I have seen, but you also need a shotgun to take down the Berserkers. So, I think the EP Shotgun and Whisper are pretty much required. You have a little more flexibility with your kinetic weapon, but it should be effective at long range. I'm thinking either Go Figure or Bygones would be good, though I'm leaning towards the Go Figure. I think I have at least one Go Figure with Outlaw and Kill Clip that would work.
As usual, I'm planning to use the Warlock with Well of Radiance and Lunafaction Boots. That has been my go-to character for raiding lately.
I checked the Whisper Heroic over the weekend and saw that it was Arc Singe. I believe that a lot of the Taken enemies deal Arc damage, so Arc Singe is probably the toughest one to do. If the elemental type follows the normal order then it should be Solar Singe next weekend which I think would be the easiest one to do. Then Whisper and Polaris Lance will deal even more damage which should make it easier to defeat the bigger enemies. So, I'll be looking to get that done next weekend.
I'm glad you guys are interested. As for time, I could do it just about anytime on Saturday. I'm pretty flexible on that day. If there is a day/time that works best for you, please let me know.
As usual, I'm thinking about what my loadout will be. I have the Heroic Whisper on my Titan only, so that's what I need to use. I could go with my usual Sunbreaker hammers, or I could try the new Sentinel subclass with the Banner Shield that is supposed to increase damage 25% from allies firing through the shield while also protecting them. I rarely use Sentinel, so I'm not sure about that yet. I would use Lion Rampants for the jumping part and then probably switch to Synthocepts after that.
I know there are a lot of Void shields in there, so I plan to run either an Inaugural Address or a Void Positive Outlook. If I run out of heavy ammo, I could switch to Polaris Lance. For kinetic, I was thinking that Go Figure might be good for long-range shooting. And I don't really need to say it, but Whisper will be my heavy weapon. Some 'Sniper Reserves' perks on my armor may help to increase the amount of Whisper ammo that I can carry also.
If you are running Titan, then Hammers is the way to go, especially for using Hammer Strike for the bosses in the final room. You will want Solar energy weapons for the first two rooms - a scout or a pulse works well and Whisper or Sleeper for heavy. In the 3rd room are a lot of void shields so switch to your void energy.
Final boss room, take out the two Blights as you come in by the columns and then the Blight by the big rock in the middle. This makes it a ton easier dealing with adds and the bosses. I think you can get all three blights with one hammer super. Use Whisper until out of ammo and then switch to Polaris Lance to plink away at the bosses.
Also, make sure the person with the highest completion on their Whisper masterwork lead the fireteam as this gives bonus damage. In other words, my Whisper is fully masterworked, so if I lead, the fireteam will get more damage vs. the leader with a 20% completed Whisper.
Raiden Flux hunters can do good work and Stormcaller locks also are good for ad clearing.
Overall, this encounter is still tough, but a little more manageable now that we are not below the Power level of the encounter.
If I see you see me around on Saturday (or any other time over the weekend), just message me and we can get it done.
I can be available most times on Saturday with advance notice. If I don't hear otherwise, I'll try to look for you guys at 7 pm Eastern. If I don't see you, I'll try again later at 8 pm.
Thanks for the info, Darth. I didn't know about some of that stuff.
I am online from about 6:30pm to 10:00pm ET almost every night. Sometimes earlier and/or later on the weekends. I'll have to check for you guys on Saturday then. I may try some solo runs for practice.
Achy, Krak, and I were able to complete the Heroic Whisper over the weekend to get the catalyst. Then we completed it again to get 24% completion on the catalyst. We opened chests also. Unfortunately I didn't get the Oracle chest yet, so I only got 5 of them (there were some good football games on yesterday that I couldn't pry myself away from). That's 34% complete on the catalyst, so I figured that having more than one-third of it done is good enough. I am aware that you get a blueprint for a fancy ship when you get the Oracle chest so I didn't get that yet, but that's okay. A fancy ship is not going to help me with the raid. I may try to get the ship later, though.
I did see some heavy ammo dropping, but not much. Polaris Lance was key for defeating the bosses at the end after heavy ammo ran out.
Not sure if you are aware, but I did say that I didn't have Whisper slotted that last successful run. I had a random heavy instead that I'd put in to allow me to equip Polaris Lance (void rocket with cluster bombs). The rocket wasn't all bad. There were big clusters of void shielded mobs that were good targets for it. Anyhow, I'm not all that good at hitting Whisper shots under those conditions.
Next week I say we give Thunderlord a try in the last room. Might be good.
Thunderlord is my favorite power weapon right now. It's great in Nightfalls with Arc Singe and Heavyweight modifiers activated. Very good in raids also. That's worth a try, although I do like Whisper for taking out yellow bar captains and snipers in the Whisper run.
Normally, Thunderlord holds 220 rounds of ammo when you have full heavy. I have found that you can get up to 265 rounds of Thunderlord ammo with just one Machine Gun Reserves perk on your armor. I know it's possible to have 2 pieces of armor with the Machine Gun Reserves perk since that perk is available on both helmets and class items. However, I don't yet know how much ammo you get with 2 of these perks. I can find out and report back.
UPDATE: With 2 Machine Gun Reserves perks on your armor you get 311 rounds of ammo for your Thunderlord. That's a lot more than 220!
Also, I think that for Warlocks the Stormtrance super is great for clearing adds. Top tree Stormcaller has an extended super that lasts a long time if you have both your grenade and melee abilities fully charged at the time you use Stormtrance. Plus you have the ability to teleport forward multiple times to move around the map faster while using Stormtrance.
I will try Stormtrance next time around. With the power weapon mod you get just short of 4 full clips on the Thunderlord (62 per clip). Might need one run just to see how much damage one clip will do on a boss, remembering their habit of strafing and jumping back into blights. One alternative may be the Forge machine gun (the first one you get). It's damage and ammo stats aren't bad -- just doesn't get that Arc explosion.
I know the Hammerhead machine gun is Void, so that could be good for a Void Singe run this weekend.
I found that if we only open chests each weekend without getting any more Heroic Whisper completions, we could complete the catalyst by the weekend of February 1st at the latest. However, we could shorten that by 2 weeks for each Heroic Whisper completion we get before that.

Work has been awful lately, so I'm usually not feeling up to playing when I get home. In fact, I am checking this thread from work! BOOOO
I really want to get into some raid groups, but just haven't had time to play. I did start baking cookies last night though...lol
