Should I come back to Destiny?

As many of you probably know, Bungie announced a big expansion last week for Destiny 2 called "Shadowkeep". If they stick to their plans, this seems like they really want to finally embrace a more RPG style of game. I hope this is true.

Many of you have stepped away from the game - which is understandable. However, I have kept plugging away and keeping my characters relatively up-to-date with the Forsaken and Annual Pass expansions.

A couple of you have asked me about coming back to the game. Datto just posted a really good video about this exact issue and I think he is spot-on with his assessment. Give it a watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44WyozHYBTk&feature=youtu.be

I think you can get the Forsaken: Complete Edition (which includes the Annual Pass) for $40. I think this will get you everything currently in the game if you own Destiny 2. Honestly, if you are interested in coming back, this is a killer deal. You will have a ton of stuff to do - especially if you have not played any Year 2 content.

Hope to see more of the "old" gang back in the game.

LOL

Well to be fair, this place has been dead for a while.

Destiny 2 is a fine game and I like much of it. Despite that, I have yet to buy Forsaken and it's Annual Pass.

Shadowkeep seems interesting and I'll keep an eye on it.

My biggest problem with Destiny is Bungie. They seem intent on keeping me from end content with the high skill and time requirements. Since Destiny 2 came out, Bungie has fallen in love with nerfing power levels for special events. That really pisses me off after I spend weeks grinding for armour and weapons.

Bungie provides lots of new armour and weapons but the grind can be huge and often unfinished before they march out the latest and greatest content.

I'm am/was constantly in a grind/fail cycle with this game and it's darkened my attitude towards it.

Ever since they split with Microsoft (and lost a lot of talent to 343, and screwed over Marty, and ...) Bungie hasn't been the company that I've followed since the Marathon days. They lost me when they charged $40 for 3 months content at the start of the second year of Destiny 2.  It would take a significant change of heart for me to even think of coming back.

I certainly understand your viewpoints. I feel a lot of the same frustrations, but since Destiny is basically the only game I play, I just take it in stride.

There are big changes coming to D2 in September. Now that Bungie is self-publishing, this will be their big chance to save D2 and hopefully bring back a good portion of the community. Forsaken really did make the game better and Bungie is learning from their mistakes, but game development is a slow process.

I really do hope Shadowkeep makes Destiny great again.

However, Borderlands 3 is launching in September, so I will have a choice to make...lol

There in lays the problem. New games and division of gaming population while Bungie keeps fielding the same tired old monsters.

For me, it makes the choice to invest in D2 less worthwhile.

When the Division first came out, and for the first year or so, they were very ham-fisted and turned a lot of people off to their game (much like another publisher we've been discussing).  But then they did a complete 180 and offered a mea culpa and actually went out of their way to make their user base happy again.  I went back and was pleasantly suprised -- I even bought Division 2 because of it (I can rant on that later).  Anyhow, I do hope that Bungie has gotten the message and will make the same radical changes -- if they worry more about making a game that is loved by their expanded base, they can succeed -- and I'll come back and give them $$.  They're going to have to show some commitment first, though.

Awesome! You will be busy for a while, but let me know when you are ready to shoot monsters together.

Will do, for sure! I've defeated Uldren and really enjoyed facing off against all the different barons. There is so much to do, I'm very happy, but also trying to savor the experience. I have so far to go to hit max light! I enjoyed quite a bit of Anthem, the campaign was neat and fun, but beyond that... Regardless though, it really opened my eyes to all the Destiny 2 has to offer.

Think you will be surprised.  There's an awful lot of content in Forsaken.

So, I've hit lvl50, but still working on power level. Currently close to 600, but still sitting on quite a bit of blues. Looking forward, it seems like there are more ways to get powerful gear than I can track and the opportunities for loot are all over the place. As a 'casual,' this is simply amazing and they finely seem to have really hit the rewards for playing however you want out of the park.

For you guys that have stayed in the game, can you attest to that?

With so many ways to get good stuff, the fear in the past seemed to be that players would start to take it ask for granted and run out if things to chase. What are your thoughts there?

My play has slowed down a bit but that is because of my schedule -- a lot more golf these days -- than the game itself.  Having said that there are still so many things to do that I find myself steadily increasing LL for all 3 characters and enjoying the grind.  When I do have time I can find fireteam activities like NF, raid, Menagerie, etc. with the 100.io group I belong to.  From what I have seen and read so far, the next season kicking off in September is going to be really enjoyable to play.  Now that Bungie is untethered from Activision it looks like they are and will be doing a much better job at developing new stuff for us to do.  It is unfortunate that so many people got turned off with the earlier game play and left the game.  Hopefully some will come back.

You are 100% correct Hammer. This season makes it really easy to increase power level. I already have my 3 toons at 750 and this is with much less grinding than previous seasons (and without having run one raid this season). As you stated, there are some many sources of powerful rewards, just pick what you want to do.

Menagerie is really good. Once you start all of the rune types, you now have the option to go after a specifc slot. Need a helmet? Put in the correct rune combo. Need a primary? Put in the correct rune combo. The Forges do offer this to a smaller extent with weapons, but Menagerie is a perfect blend.

Glad you are back Hammer. I see Krak is playing more and Achy is around too, so we may have to try and get the band back together...lol

Hey. I'm late to the party but back too. If y'all see me and need a hole in yoir roster, I'm down. Gambit seems a lot of fun.
