Any alternative to 2old2play for a forum?
I sent the following to Doodirock last night and have not received a reply:
"I am posting this message from Microsoft Edge, since I get a "The connection has timed out The server at 2old2play.com is taking too long to respond." from both Firefox on my PC and through Silk Browser on my Kindle. As you can see, there is no problem with Edge (which I dislike)"
I will not be checking the Destiny forum here very often since I prefer to use Firefox over Edge. I am also concerned as to how long the 2old2play can continue with the extremely low usage made of it. Other than this Destiny forum, most of the others show last updates of 3 to 9 months ago!
Is there any viable alternative?
Inquiring minds would like to know! lol

Hey Door,
The issue you see isnt browser related. Its just the URL you're using.
https://www.2old2play.com (good)
https://2old2play.com (bad)
The problem stems from an old security certificate that I just had to replace. It should resolve itself soon.
The issue is now fixed and you should see it working on browsers within the next few hours.

As for the other issue with activity. I"m not sure I know of any other forums. I personally haven't put too much into 2o2p in terms of my own time investment as forums in general seem to not be as of much use as they once were with the advent of Xbox Clubs, Facebook, and chat. The value just isnt there now.
I've also sort of moved on from 2o2p as I've realized I no longer have the desire to try and run an older gaming community. Truth be told its been a few years that this has been the case (probably since before this version of the site). Contrary to popular belief (even my own belief) a community will not just run on its own. It requires people like myself, moderators, writers, and other leader to constantly attend to the needs of the community. Sadly I've lost the drive to tend to those needs a long time ago.
For now, and maybe forever, I'll leave the lights on here as a reminder to myself of the fun thing I built with friends a long time ago. I still enjoy doing the podcast with Dsmooth, and screwing around with the programming when I'm bored on the weekends. I also want to ensure that people always have a home to come and chat with old friends and maybe even make some new ones. I encourage anyone who wants to recuit, build, and foster a community here to do so. I would gladly give the forums over to someone with that desire.
As for the future, I will likely attempt to move 2o2p over to a discord server so people can freely chat at any time. If anyone here wants to join, please feel free to click the link below.

I kind of figured you were a bit burned out with this site. Certainly understandable after all this time.
How is 2old2play handling the Destiny 2 Clan?
I feel a bit rudderless running the 2old2play xbox club. Thoughts?
destiny.bungie.org is a very active forum. I think forums are still a pretty good place to organize and comment.
I don't like what I saw on Discord. Being old might have something to do with it.
I dont think much will change in terms of the 2o2p clan on destiny. I'm still going to be really active in that game and actually forsee the destiny forum here to be lively as well. A part of me wouldnt mind going back to focusing on 1-2 games anyways and I've recently started to consolidate more of the forums and strip out a lot of the fluff.
I do think the club could be a decent source of people if we spent more time promoting it. Maybe the true goal is to just branch outside of the site and put more effort into those spaces. I think ultimately I need to spend a weekend removing everything we have here on the site and just going back to 1 regular old forum.
In terms of Discord, it ends up being a pretty amazing piece of software once you get used to it. Whats nice is that you can see what everyone is playing and instantly msg them or get into conversations at will. It might take some getting used to, but I actually think the benefits are fairly substantial.
BTW, are you migrating the D1 clan to D2 or starting a new one with the same name? I think the old one is full and I'm thinking about re-joining for D2.
If I create a D2 clan for moldy oldies, is there a way of making it associated with 2old2play?
Thanks for the great info, Doodi (or badadmin, whoever you are!). I'm putting this on through Firefox, so you were right (imagine that! lol).
I've been using Discord to a limited extent because of a Minecraft group I belong to (CreepersLab), and find it adequate. I have a problem with chat over forum just because it is hard to pick up threads of information out of a freeform stream of consciousness instead of specific topic threads that can expand and be reviewed more easily. Discord also seems to want to stay "conscious" even when I close it down and I have to go to my tray in Windows 10 to actually end the task.
Cool a 2o2p Discord channel. I'll certainly check it out.
I think our Destiny community is still decently active - even here - and will certainly pick up once D2 is out and people are coming back into the fold and playing.
I certainly appreciate the hard work put in by Doodi and ALL of those that took on a "job" here whether it be behind the scenes or actively moderating and organinzing activities. I hope we'll still "keep the lights" on for the few of us that still like to hang out here.
I have no plans of every shutting down 2o2p.
