AWD tuning tips

I've had a few people asking me about my s class evo in the d2nr garage so I'm making this post as a general guide for setting up awd cars. I'm sure everyone has driven an Audi Subaru or Mitsubishi car with awd and noticed they have the nasty habit of switching between oversteer and understeer when you don't want them to and will understeer heavily at corner exit. This is mostly due to differential settings, the front more than the rear. Front differential The acceleration setting will determine how strong the front of the car will pull out of corners. If the setting is too high the car will just push right off the road and if it is too low you have no power being put down which defeats the purpose of awd. I use a range between 25-35% depending on how much power is being made. The deceleration setting should be set to 0 unless you WANT understeer. Rear differential I set the rear acceleration setting to a number 10-15% higher than the front because I like the rear to have more pushing force exiting the corners and compliments the pulling power of the front differential. The deceleration setting I set to 0%. Why zero you ask? Anything higher than zero will reduce the cars ability to turn in and also reduce the ability to rotate in a corner. I know most people like a high setting to have a stabilizing effect but that can also be created by rear toe and anti-roll bar settings. Make these differential settings first before adjusting anything else and see the difference in how the car handles. This is my preference and opinion I'm sure most will disagree with but it works for me so I'm sure someone else could benefit. My evo is in the d2nr garage I can send it to anyone who wants it. Its not a leaderboard car by any means but it works very well in public lobbies.

Track,

Thanks for the tips. In FM3 I had no issues getting a good tune out of an AWD car probably due to their skewed ratings last time, but in FM4, I have a bugger of a time getting something solid.

Interesting on the 0 decel alla round. Easy enough to try out.

For accel, I usually go somewhere around 20-30% in the front and 50-70 in the rear as a starting point but always have some decel in the front (5-15) and maybe 20-40 decel in the rear. I guess that might be part of my issues. I looked up some old tunes for FM3 and those settings just were not cutting it.

Thanks again for the tip. I am eager to try!

I tend to start at 30/0 front and roughly 65/15 rear with 80% or so in the transfer, just to warm up the tires and see what it's gonna do, then tweak to taste. But I'm a painter...

Psyber the rear diff settings are fine but id change the front decel to zero since the rear already has 20-40 decel. Having front decel is going to make the car understeer pretty heavily like it would in a front wheel drive car.
