BTCC S3 discussion
I'd like guys to post any feedback good or bad about s2 and things you would like see change/propose for s3 to improve things.
I'd like to apologize to everyone for the diss array long break during the summer and the lack of drivers for the second half. Being a working family man with a new edition earlier this yr things were tuff when trying to manage my gaming time and I'll admit I was having love hate relationship with rf1 but have since made things better...still don't love it but I missed racing btcc cars with you guys:)
Id also like to thank mango and tartan for stepping up and helping out and knight for well being knight ;) ..cheers guys!
so going forward into s3 there's a few things I'd like to change to simulate more of the rl series
id love more racers attending but due to our time slot North Americans will be non existent so as a small community we all need to reach out and invite friends fellow testers etc. I hope to see Paul atyeo and church on track next yr I know a few were having pc issues and church is just a console racer with good excuses :)
so to fill the grid next season iam gonna work training the ai to be more competitive....will see how that turns out before officially adding them
id like to ditch the 2x 20 min and go with 3 races based on rl laps per track I believe they only run 12 for the majority lastly if like to eliminate traction control
cheers
Out of curiosity how many people could make a 8 or 9 am mt Saturday morning race which would be 2pm GMT ? Also could you guys post your available gaming times so I try to scheduale around the majority
mine are
EDIT: My time is Mountain time -7 hrs GMT
tues mornings till 1pm
wed after 1pm...I try to make races at rd for gsc 2013
thurs mornings till 1pm and after 10pm when the family is asleep
fri really anytime but would like to get off early to spend time with the family
sat as long as the wife does teach a class I could make mornings work but would need to be wrapped up by 1pm
Thursday-Sunday 7:30pm GMT till whenever.
With my wife working shifts I can only fit it in after my daughter has gone to bed.
After 7pm GMT Monday to Friday.
Weekends I'm generally available.
No prob with the Sat morning, outside that Thursdays and Tuesdays are out for me...Other than that I can work with most times.
What's your guys input on race format for next season?
I originally wanted to see 3 official lap race sprints with open pits available in case of a crash... I believe the majority of tracks are 12 laps shorter ones like brands Indy are a few more
option b
due to our last few races wishing I had a few more laps to possibly gain one more position due 1 sprint followed by a double lap race with the possibility of a mandatory pit with a 4 tire change to add more of a strategy to the final out come.
let me know what you guys prefer
cheers
1 sprint and 1 with a mandatory sounds great to me.
I'm hoping to be in on BTCC S3 from the outset, usually after 20:30GMT is better for me but as it's just one night a week I could make it any time from 19:00GMT!
Weekends are a little variable as I have to work one weekend out of every 4, but 75% of the races is better than 0%!
I think the closeness of the racing is largley a factor of the format we have now, to mess with that would be a shame. It works, and the proof of that is the 100% agreement that the last few races have been the most fun races we have had. So for me don't touch the BTCC it works and doesn't need fixing.
If you want to tinker with formats do that with another series, I am not against another format, pits stops add new stratagy, a sprint followed by a longer race is fine, just not for the BTCC.
My 2c
I agree with all the above posts, just throwing out options :)
Say we stick to the sprint style which is currently 20 mins x2 + 5min qualification
or go offical and do 3 laped races.....looking at the btcc result laps depend on the track and can go any where from 12 laps to 27 for the smaller tracks that run under a min.
Since weve been having really good races of late and wishing it would go longer a third sprint could be the answer?
If we choose that style i would use the btcc twist for third race
race one grid determined by quali
Race two reversed grid from race one standings
Race 3 standings from race 2 with race 2 winner being grided last :)
estimating time it would take around an hr.
Ha ha the time estimate is a gas, we have never started on time...last one I was online for two hours to get 2 20 min races, not moaning, we had a laugh. Happy enough with the idea of a third sprint being added. More racing is always good :)
I was just estimating in race time not the dilly dallying around before and between :)
Maybe a disclaimer for any newbies would be good.
Warning of us oldies need to have a moan about sim racing/games/hardware before any racing gets done lol.
...and at least one of us will be late, need to download something, set up something, look under the sofa for something, pee, or go to the hairdressers :)
Ha! Yeah blaming the wife was another one :P
Blaming it on technical issues makes you look like a noob, no guy questions another guy when you use the wife as the escape goat lol
I see a BTCC server has gone up, get a miss match though. Somthing been added to the mod, new screens I think.
Not sure mate....I haven't done anything with the btcc mod. You'll have to ask mango I do recall him saying something about updating the tracks and fixing the mismatch with the ones we origanlly attempted but not sure ?
If a new BTCC server is up, it wasn't by me.
Only things running are the old BTCC Season 2 mod, and the modified by Kurupt VTCC 2012 (dated 30th November) mod minus the plugins as they crash the server. The VTCC 2012 gear fix, is just a SVM SETUP file telling the AI to use the highest final drive gear ratio.
Strange this is not the first time a 2O2R named server has been up that seems to have nothing to do with any of us. No worries then. As an aside I was on the test server the other day and there were about five other drivers on it...Had great fun blasting around and ended up a second up on the fastest guy there. Felt good LOL Funny thing is though Toban has been the one track included in the rF1 light package forever I have never done more than a lap or two on it ever. It is a good touring car track.
Yeah, saw that on the server logs. I was curious why you were asking the AI labelled unknown driver who he was. All 5 guys were AI using the gearfix/svm setup file.
Ha ha I did wonder, but it was the Unknown Driver tag that threw me, usually that is someone who has not set up a profile, the chat messges were quite convincing as well. Funny one of the additions I have reqested in that sim I test is a way of differentiating between AI and real drivers on servers.
Heh it's more you do tend to race a tad differently and respond differently to AI, on an open server it would be good to know.
Heh I really should not go online when slightly stoned, yup that other server was the old BTCC server, I was thrown because it let me in with the WTCC mod and just said there was some kind of screen mismatch. I didn't recognise the name because I always went directly to it from my shortcut. More I play with that WTCC mod the more I like it, only running the Focus saloon as that is what I will race but if the other cars are as much fun, it's gonna be a gas. If we do use this mod for the BTCC I may pick another car for the WTCC...May :)
Lol I saw mangos response at around 4 am and got a good chuckle, I was wondering what knights response was gonna be :)
@ mango I'll start an official vtcc thread with info could you set up another link for hot lapping and results?
has anyone had any experience training the ai to make them more competitive and know how to add trained ai to dedicated server?

AI Auto learning/tuning doesn't work properly, as the mod creators dont usually set up all the variables. The variables have to match in the mod and the track files, for the AI tuning/learning to work effectively.
